Gotta run with a backup. Gotta periodically test your pumps. Cheap insurance.

It's definitely not funny! It's such a stressful situation to be in and we hope that most people will not have to go through something like this! I'm sorry to hear this is your current situation.

@@jerseyboysplumbing yes I know it's not a funny thing to have happen to you 😓 almost every time it rains our basement floods some. I've learned to try to make the best of it! Listen to some happy music on your headphones and clean it up with a cheerful heart. You're not alone in this bro keep your head up! You got this!!!

Good grief, is it ever relatable. If only I had the money you can be certain that would be one of the first things to fix. This, amongst others is the reason Its been impossible to rise above the pits of poverty. Its a never ending cycle of putting out fires. Some folks just don’t know how good they have it in life. If I lived in a village far away from the 1st world I’d be fine except, I live in the 1st world and the boss man just expects everyone to have all these wonderful time saving machines our economy depends on. Not to mention the fact that one can’t afford to call a repair man to fix things when they break.

I have two submersibles sump pumps in my basin. One is set to trigger x inches above the main pump float when the water would just start creeping out of the top of the basin. The main one is a decent, but cheaper brand. The backup is a more expensive Ion Storm Pro. I haven't done the measurements or math, but I know that even the main pump stays on for about 10-15 seconds on average and drains the basin. If both activated, it's probably a good 90-100 gallons per minute or more with lots of buffer room even if the water did creep out of the sump basin itself. House is raised rubblestone foundation where some idiot owners dug out about a 20' long x 3.5' wide x 3' or so deep hole about 5 feet inside of the crawlspace door. They poured a cement slab and put a 3' high cinderblock wall around it to keep the surrounding crawlspace dirt from collapsing in. They didn't waterproof anything or do it correct. When it rains, water comes out of the dirt from behind the wall and goes through the wall (they turned some cinder blocks on the bottom of the wall sideways as makeshift drains when putting the wall up) and runs across the slab (now covered in inches of dirt from erosion of the dirt around the walls) into the sump hole. They punched through the 'lower' end of the cement slab that they had poured and dug it out a bit. They had a single 1/3HP pedestal pump sitting in the makeshift sump hole. There's no air flow down there, so that was pretty useless and could easily overheat if it stayed on for too long. It sucked at pumping, too. House was built in 1950. I'm convinced that they weren't the best construction workers when they built it.
