I am no sprinkler mechanic, but here it is anyways: it should not be sprayers. If they switch to MP rotators they'll get better range and more even coverage. Most of the time they just screw in place of the sprayers.

Nice comment. I had a severe hate for my rotators. Now that I have them they are awesome. Took me a while to understand how to use them.

Interesting! I found that if I got the rotators precisely in the right spots, I could get the best coverage of my GPMs at the correct rates. I have no experience with them long term. Maybe a video idea for you? I’d like to hear what your experience with the rotators has been.

I’m in the irrigation and lawncare business, but all I can say is that irrigation system is crap!!! Why would they put spray heads in a larger area of lawn? It should have been rotary heads!! Smfh!! This is what keeps me in business!!

My brother it looks like you need to keep a small shovel or something like a drywall saw with you anytime you look at sprinklers. You needed to remove the dirt, sod, and soil a good 6" around it so it could slowly fill itself back in. In no expert and I've never done anything like this before. I just saw him trying to claw the dirt away like a dog would and we have mastered hand tools that do a million times better. Does he need to replace heads or different ones was my first thought?
@pestandlawnginja

Completely agree Donald. I've avoided sprinkler work for a long time. However, your point it valid. Having a tool would at least make the diagnostic approach easier. Especially in this instance.

@@pestandlawnginja This is just a thought and I got mine at Lowe's or Walmart. I have a Irwin (I could be wrong on the name brand) and the blade folds into the handle. The drywall blade is jagged and sharp as hell. So I was like one of them would have been great to remove the on off water covers as well. It was like $10.

I don’t know what’s more frightening- having to dodge black widows or hearing that the brown patch may be too far gone ... 😂 I don’t have a sprinkler system- what type of hose sprinkler head do you recommend? I use the kind that shoot water in a circular direction, but also feel it goes over a lot of the lawn

We live at 4500ft altitude and need a lot of water. The majority of people use hunter or rainbird oscillating heads and depending on the flow rate can push a ton of water quickly. Lately in my new home I have the hunter MD slow flow heads. I've been learning the science behind it and its working. Slow and steady with water is always the best IMO. But most people have too many stations and cannot run the stations as long as the hunter md heads require. Interesting stuff.

This year I am having the same issue with brown and bald areas from compacted soil. I have dialed in the sprinkler head to shoot out and to the sides but some areas don't get enough water because it shoots up and over. How can I get more water around the sprinkler head?
@pestandlawnginja

Usually comes down to the sprinkler head was installed to high or low. Could be the nail on the front of the head needs to be adjusted

misterlandscaper.com/ in the sunny hot area's during the day. I like the spinners on stakes that really mist. I used a spiral tomato stake that I run the hose through and set a spinner at the top 5 feet up. Nice cooling and very even misting. At 6:46 that sprinkler is sending out a lot of water all at once. Most sprinklers do this, too much water, too fast. IMO. A fine mist almost like a damp fog during the hot dry time works wonders. Got yellowing use iron. Grass loves sunny, cool, damp (not humid) weather. My mister cools the air by 15-20% . Good luck.
@pestandlawnginja
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Hunter MD came out with a very slow flowing sprinkler head that uses the same ideology that you speak of. My local area doesn't do so hot with the misters because of the dry heat. It evaporates too quickly. IMO misters at sea level do very well. We also get too much wind here during the early mornings so bigger droplet sizes work best.
