Thank you for making this video! As an African-American /Black American I would also say watch Mississippi Burning. My husband is a Black immigrant and I had him watch it. When he watched it he was shocked that his country gained independence before Black Americans were allowed to vote in the United States. When he gets overwhelmed with the racism here he always slips into "I'm only here for a short time before I go back to my country" but he is reminded that his wife is a Black woman from the USA....I have no where to escape to. This is my life.

Great video. I learnt tons. As someone that visits the US frequently, I always wanted to understand the emphasis on race that this country has. In my country I don't perceive there are so much racial tension as in the US. Your perspective as an immigrant from Africa is a different one I've never heard. While so many young people produce content that I consider doesn't really adds anything, you produced this excellent video essay with your perspectives on Racial tensions in the US. KUDOS!

Now books or videos. The New Jim Crow, The Color of Money, The Color of Law. Those three are a good place to start today.

It depends on the region of the country, for example in places such as South Carolina you see many White Americans working at so called "black jobs and hispanic jobs"

Got to say most people think racism always starts in the home, or it just magically manifests, it doesn't. Like most deep seeted racism is usually through experience. Pretty much had a friend growing up that hated anyone from Hawaii. Guy hated Hawaiians with every fiber of his being. Like once he told me what him and his mom went through, I get it. Pretty much let it go, takes years of finally just realizing alot of people are crappy.

When twelve years of slave was published, White Americans said he was lying. I cant remember her name but there was a woman who also wrote a book with similar accounts. There were many more people this happened to, but because of backlash, many of them just remained quiet about it. This is well thought out and carefully presented. I do not know why they had race originally put on forms, however I know for a long time it was used to track how many black or other minorities a business employed and those numbers could be used to negotiate for more minorities to get jobs. As an African, do you have an opinion on Black Americans calling themselves African American?

I personally as a non African don’t care what they say they are. I don’t care if someone says they are this nationality, this race, this ethnicity. Since it doesn’t affect me and I also don’t care.

The thing is, to deal with racism we have to face the subject no matter how uncomfortable it is. We can't just "let it go" because if we do that then the problems that we are facing today will only get worse. Instead of letting things go, we should communicate and learn.

@gg00472 can't have the conversation when one side believes they can't be racist. Racism comes from everyone and until people accept that there will not be a path forward.

You did realize how racist this comment is right? also, Africans are good by nature? you should learn about the history of slavery in africa and who it was that sold africans to the west europes and the Arabs and Indians long before the Europeans
