In order to reach the Shadow of the Erdtree, Miyazaki casually confirmed that you have to not only defeat Mohg, but also Radahn. This has massive lore implications.
In this video, I offer a few theories for why you have to send everyone's favorite horse lover to the glue factory. For instance, Miquella tried to revive Godwyn with the Eclipse, but was most likely thwarted by Radahn halting the stars. A revived Godwyn would have given him the strongest claim to both the throne and to Godfrey's legacy, which would have threatened Radahn's status as a Godfrey stan.
