Food poisoning is so much more common than anyone knows. When people say they “got a bug” or a “24 hour flu” what actually happened is that they got food poisoning.

Spot on. When you think through the hazards of even just putting raw meat or eggs in the same basket as fruit and veg - let alone bringing these products into the home - it quickly becomes clear that there is no safe way to handle these products in any way, shape, or form, because there is no reasonable assurance that they do not contain salmonella or some other food borne illness. This makes a good case for insisting on a fully plant based home if possible.

Parts of the documentary, especially the parts from within the Purdue plant, as you mentioned, led me to different conclusions than they would have when I still ate animals. Like Dr. McDougall says, "People love to hear good news about their bad habits." Loved your analogy to a snake pit. 'Some chicken at the grocery story contains salmonella. Salmonella causes sickness and can cause death. What's your conclusion? Don't eat cantaloupe.'

Ana, it always annoys me too, when people freak out about spinach and romaine, but neglect to connect that fear to the true cause. That really gets under my skin. I had a woman once try to convince me that raw flour was more dangerous than raw eggs. I didn’t have the means to check the facts while she was making her case, but of course once I did, I confirmed how wrong she was. I mean, come on; eggs literally come out of chickens’ cloacas. Flour may be a small hazard, but it’s not straight from the source.

Years ago, when I began working at a college residence, I had to undergo mandatory food safety training because we served breakfasts to guests staying in the residences over the Summer; I had been excused from having to work any positions involving food handling because the managers knew I was vegan, but I had to take the mandatory training anyway. In the middle of the mandatory food safety course, I pointed out that all of the measures we were required to follow were only necessary because animal products were being served. ALL of the food safety measures related to flesh, dairy, eggs, and other animal-derived "foods." I noted that none of these measures would really be necessary if everything we served were plant-based. All of my co-workers, and the person conducting the training session, were quiet after I noted this fact, and seemed a little embarrassed and unsure how to respond (nothing was really said in reply, in the end). I think that, for just one brief moment, they understood how truly and deeply stupid they and their non-vegan culture are. One of them went vegan not long afterwards.

This is an off topic question: in a previous video you mentioned that you feed your cats meat. Now that companies have formulated vegan cat food, have you now changed your stance or do you still feed your cats meat?
@CraftyVegan

I can’t speak for them, since I am not them, but I can say for certain that “vegan cat food” has been around for a while. Longer even than I’ve been watching these two amazing creators. The problem that I personally have for plant based cat food is that cats are obligate carnivores. And it seems that these guys know that and act accordingly. Dogs can eat a grain-free plant based diet if it’s carefully researched though, so if buying meat for any reason bothers you, a cat might not be the best option to have as a companion and it might be best to get a dog or some other rescue animal that can exist healthily on a plant based diet. Like a turtle. Fwiw, being vegan means “avoiding animals as much as is practicable and possible”, which means that as long as you’re not getting your cat more meat than they can eat, having a cat and feeding them meat is still vegan because it’s not possible to have a fully healthy cat on a plant based diet. And also: 1) grains are terrible for dogs and cats. They cause all sorts of intestinal and skin issues and are *still* used as a filler ingredient for most commercial pet foods. And 2) the meats in commercial pet foods are absolutely not ok to serve to animals. If you research it, the meats used are waste meats that are cut off of meat meant for humans, and can include cancerous tumours, intestines, and meat chunks with infections. Best bet for everyone involved is to do what you can to use fresh ingredients and make your own cat and dog food from ingredients that each animal can safely eat.

I don’t have a cat…I do have a friend that had two cats…I bought her vegan cat food…one of her cats refused to eat it, the other ate it and threw up Maybe if she gradually mixed it with their non-vegan cat food, and kept increasing the amount of vegan cat food until it became their only food source, she might have been able to successfully change their diets…she didn’t do that though so maybe someone else can try that technique

Why do you guys, want to dismiss every single case of people having issues with a 100% plant based diet in alignment with the vegan principality, as purely anecdotal? Have you ever considered that biologically, evolving in a world where ethics weren't even a thought, & halting millions of years of eating habits might be tougher for some to stop in alignment of a principality thats less than 100 years old? Do you really think EVERY. SINGLE. CASE, of people having issues, is 100% of the time, the persons fault?

the fact of the matter is simple: veganism is actually a cuIt, that's just their code of conduct. recently a prominent raw vegan influencer died due to the consequences of starvation and the whole vegan community rose up against it, saying that her diet is not to blame, but herself. so, when vegans give up such an extremely strict diet for whatever the health reason, then they were never vegan, and if they die because of such an extremely strict diet, then it's their fault, but never an extremely strict diet such as vegan eating pattern

Fruits are much more dangerous than meat when it comes to foodborne illnesses. Meat is cooked at a high temperature, fruits and vegies are eaten raw. Yet another reason to avoid being vegan.
@BM1982.V2

Where does that food borne illness come from to begin with though. Fruits don't naturally contain these dangerous bacteria, it comes from contamination from animal products or animal feces. If there was no animal agriculture industry at all then fruits and lettuce would never be a problem at all.
