Why not, right? Cross Country should be in the Olympics, and here's four reasons why.
1. It already was in the Olympics. It was held three times in the early 1900’s. They stopped it because in 1924 it was a real hot day and several participants didn’t finish the race. We have the marathon now, and that is super brutal compared to a 10k or 12k race.
2. Here in the United States, almost half a million high school students participate in cross country. According to a survey done in 2013-2014 470,000 kids ran CC.
3. Its a global sport. Actually East Africa dominates the international scene. The best two teams at the IAAF championships typically are Kenya and Ethiopia. It already has a world championship event every two years.
4. You could have it in the winter or the summer. Typically, championship season for CC in high school and college is in October and November. This is much closer to winter than summer. Also the Olympic Summer games could have the CC race almost a week before the track events start. The best distance runners could run the CC race, and then a week later be back on the track.
Let some people know it should be. Send your messages two @sebcoe who might become the IOC president, @Olympics, naturally, and @iocmedia. Use these hashtags. #XCOlympics and #BringingXCBack
