Hi, loved the video but I have a question. How do I install a removable handle on my DLB350A brake winch?

Thanks for your question! You can install the 6453 (www.dutton-lainson.com/proddetail.php?prod=14467) or 6454 (www.dutton-lainson.com/proddetail.php?prod=14468) on your DLB350A but removing the standard handle from the winch (along with the spring and nut on the end of the drive shaft). You then thread the square tube hub from the 6453 or 6454 kit on the drive shaft, followed by the removable handle, followed by the hex nut to hold it all in place.

Hi, how can i calculate these loads ? Meaning it is surely related to the forces of friction between the load and the threads, but i can't quite calculate the exact couple needed to be applied on the threads so that they screw themselves back on ? Thanks for your answer !

Thanks for your question! All of our brake winches have a minimum load specification in order for the winch to function properly. As long as you have more than your winch's minimum load attached to it, the friction break will activate and hold your load in position.

@@DuttonLainson I just wanted to know if someone could help me out for a mecanic exercice, if you have determined the loads with experiment, calculus or modelisation ! Thanks for your quick answer !

I don't know why you say turning the handle to lower the load doesn't forcibly turn the winch, when obviously it in fact does or else winch would not be turning with the handle and the cable would not be getting loose, without a load on. I understand that you'll need a load on there but it doesn't seem correct to say the handle doesn't turn the winch when lowering a load. Even without a load the handle turns the winch!. Just saying. It's confusing.

You're right- it doesn't seem correct to say that cranking the handle doesn't turn the winch when lowering a load. That's why we say at the start of this video that this is often misunderstood! However, turning the handle to lower a load (over the winch's minimum load) does not forcibly turn the winch, it simply allows the load to be lowered. As you can see in this video and as you stated, turning the handle without a load attached (or with one attached that weighs less than the winch's minimum load) does forcibly turn the winch, at least until the handle unthreads from the drive shaft threads. A more detailed explanation of D-L brake winch's brake function can be found in this video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qKClk2ahbIpngmk
