I’ve pulled reefers, flatbeds, container, and even a mobile shower doing events all over the U.S. While this doesn’t make me the greatest expert of all experts to ever share an opinion, it does mean I’m not just an armchair critic. I thought the truck driver did a fine job. He stayed calm, he reacted in an intelligent practical manner, maintaining perfect control of his vehicle and didn’t overreact when the car hit him. There was nothing I can see that he could or should have done differently. I would ride with this driver anytime as a co-driver if I wasn’t retired.

My takeaway.....WHY THE HELL ARE PEOPLE DRIVING WITHOUT TURNING THEIR HEADLIGHTS ON?!?!
@John-E
4 жыл бұрын
Just a thought, people have their headlamps on auto and rely on the car to turn them on or off according to how light it is outside. They simply don't realize that the bright snow keeps the headlights off. Also people think about themselves and not anyone else, so they don't care if their headlights are on or off in bad weather as they figure it's your problem to see them. Wrong...... In any bad weather you should have those headlights on. See and be seen. Also, people don't even know the laws, in most all states it says that if it's raining and your wipers are on you should also have your headlights on. Do they do this (even though it's the law and they can be ticketed)??....No, they don't. So, I'm with you 100%. Not only slow down in bad weather, turn your headlights on so you're seen by others, please....

People do it all the time in Canada. For some reason a lot of people think it is a good idea to buy a 2wd in a place that gets snow for at least 4 months a year. FWDs move off the line a little better than RWD, but both don't handle inclement weather as well an AWD or 4WD.

I drove an 86 camero in the exact same conditions in Colorado the winter of 1988. I plowed through the snow like it wasn't there passing with confidence like the 4x4 in this video. Especially hazardous patches of black ice formed overnight remaing undetectable under fresh snow. There are two methods of detecting hidden black ice. One way is pay attention where melted snow crossess the roadway (especially under bridges on steep inclines and curves). Assume these areas are black ice if below freezing temperatures occured overnight. The other way is if you observe vehicles in front of you suddenly spin out of control as demonstrated in this video. If this happens do not respond by taking your foot off the gas petal and attempt to use the brake. If I was driving the big rig I would have done exactly like the truck driver in this video. That is all you can do in that situation! The fault is 100% the driver operating a vehicle that is unsafe because it has not been reconfigured for winter road conditions! Rear wheel drive vehicles like the Camero need a minium of 200- 300lbs (bags of concrete) over the rear axle and all four wheels fitted with studded snow tires! An inexperienced winter driver (Californian) could easily drive that Camero like the 4x4 in this video. I seriously wouldn't encourage anyone into driving high speeds, passing traffic on icey roads during a blizzard due to it's addictive nature! I hope this is helpful to someone, be safe & good luck.

It's weird. It looks like that wiper blade is flexing side to side. Like when you put a pencil between your fingers and wiggle it up and down.

Where was this exactly? Snowing pretty heavy, but looks like no plowing efforts at all.

New budget. They wait until May to plow roads. Solar has removed most of that by then, so less overtime pay.

You have to keep more distance to the car in front in slippery conditions like that.

Horseshit! That vehicle is sports car that is rear wheel drive with highway tread tires on it. That car should be home in the garage where it belongs and only driven when conditions are right. Not in a blizzard snow storm. I watch people with all kinds of high performance luxury cars go blowing by me at 80 mph while I'm in 4wd in my Dodge Ram doing less than the speed limit in conditions like this just waiting to pass them back down the road as they are now deep in a ditch or have become an ornament on an oak tree. Common sense goes a long way.

@@donaldsharpless1746 Well Sherlock. I was reffering to the truck that was too Close to the car in front. I dont care What car it is or What tires he is uding, but With wet snow like that it's always a good idea to keep at least 5 second distanse .

@@Sviming1ne I know what you were talking about dickhead! They were on open highway and everyone was traveling just fine until the guy in the camaro freaked out because he was being passed and hit the brakes too hard and lost it. I don't care how far back you are. That car was out of control in a split second and you can't stop a tractor trailer on a dime. If that driver would just keep backing up further aw ay from every car that passed him rode in front of him, he would never get anywhere. Let's all back up further so people who can't drive in these conditions can have the road to themselves. The truck driver drove clear off the road and never lost control and was able to stop his rig with no problem even after the camaro still hit him.

@@Sviming1ne Actually, if you count the time between when the car passes the telephone poles and then the truck does, he is at a 5 second distance.

I have no idea how to use mine...... too many confusing buttons and menu. It just sits patiently in the glove box collecting dust.
