Growing up in a Russian household in the USA I didn’t understand why my parents and grandparents drank kefir. Once I grew up and realised not only the probiotic benefits but also the whey protein content in kefir. One life way bottle (4 cups) has about 44g of protein. Never drank protein shakes just drank kefir post work out. Completely natural, no flavors no chemicals. I used the lifeway 1% plain

Fermenting the milk into kefir is easy once you get the kefir grains established and healthy. I like to ferment the milk for about 24 hours, strain out the kefir grains, and save them for the next batch. Next, I blend a fruit like blueberries, peach, or even apple into the strained kefir and add raw honey. I then put the mixture into a mason jar and cap it off tightly with the lid. Let that stand at room temperature for another 8 to 12 hours. When that mixture is refrigerated, you have a slightly carbonated drink that may even have a little alcohol. It is the champagne of kefir drinks and is delicious.
@bonsummers2657
10 ай бұрын
Just let raw milk ferment. Just that is great. Just takes a few days at room temp, with of course some variability depending on the temperatures.. Don't have to do any fuss like what you're talking about. Refrigerate when it's fermented to the degree you like at room temp. Come on now.

I used to do that too, until I realized that blending the kefir in a blender might actually be harming the fragile bacteria. Like putting you pet dog in the dryer for a few minutes. Have also made kefir from simply dumping a store bought special pro-biotif(I believe Align or something sinilar with Bifidum) into milk and within a few days it fermented into kefir consistency. If you dont feel like buying grains...you can basically just buy a probiotic once and then continuously produce it and never have to buy it again. I’ve been trying to go vegan, I moved to Spain and good quality whole foods are very cheap here and I’ve found that I feel much better all around and sleep better when I eat vegan. Everything I eat is homemade, very little processed foods, only problem is I used to love kefir and now I’m instead eating kimchi, sauerkraut, tempeh, kombucha, and soy yoghurt regularly. I’d be interested to compare the makeup of strains in my current diet vs when it included kefir.

Very informative video, can you also explain how much we need to consume kefir in a day and how often. I am 54 and have recently started using about 8oz kefir in the morning before breakfast, do I need to drink more? Also where can I get the grains to start making my own kefir at home, thanks 💐

You should be able to get the grains off Amazon. I'm in the UK and there's loads, so I imagine it will be the same for the US Amazon if that's where you are.

But I look forward to hearing if I'm wasting my money and drinking bitter milk for no reason. I always just have a big gulp of it. Not a glass. I am on my day 3 of having kefir, I definitely see a difference in my mood. I am in so good mood yesterday and today. But...I am following Dr Eric Berg's advice on having it before bedtime so you get a better sleep. I have been mixing 1/2 cup in a protein shake (as a replacement for Greek yogurt). This is the first time hearing about it to have it on empty stomach before a meal. I am not sure which I will end up doing, I am going to have to think about it. But...oh boy, am I having some gas, but hopefully it will subdue in a few days once a new equilibrium is reached or something. (I also just started taking collagen, so it might be that that's causing it)

Nobody sees any difference in anything when they take supplements or drink. Kefir or eat real fermented pickles or anything. It's all the placebo effect. That doesn't mean it's not good for you and continue doing what's good for you, but don't even think that it's actually making you feel different

Questions remain; where can you get good Kefir? If you buy, for example, Redwood Hill Farms goat milk kefir, is it fully active with all the beneficial probiotics, even tho it is probably pasteurized? Does pasteurization really render the kefir impotent?
@JohnDoe-z2r

Just make your own, it's really simple. Toss a few grains in there and let it sit in room temp for 24 - 48 hours. Pasteurization most likely makes it less beneficial, but probably not much
