I am a Russian learner, and I have just came across your channel. I appreciate you doing a video like this. I understand that you try to avoid politics in your videos (I also avoid it - I have my own experiences, here in the UK, of how rabid and hateful people can become over these things, and I simply don't care about or value politics enough to express my positions to people anymore). I see also in the comments here, you are being very tactful and conciliatory. I would like also to make an appeal to those who view this video, who were learning the Russian, but would consider quitting over politics. As you have done, I would implore them to speak to Russian people - they may already do so - on the likes of VK, or language apps like HelloTalk. If both are comfortable, maybe they could discuss these issues. The most important thing, and a rather inflammatory thing, that I would wish to express to all your listeners (and every person I ever meet in my life): Listen. Listen to their position, with an open-mind. No matter what a person believes in, they are a human being with worth and dignity. If a person is behaving respectfully, they are worthy of mutual respect. I am a firm believer that personal growth comes through learning and understanding why other people hold the beliefs they do - yes, we may disagree, but I always want to be able to say "I can understand why you believe things are this way". I believe firmly that, if one person cannot understand the views of another person, they have no right to judge them; and, once they do understand, I believe that they will lose the desire to judge them. Everybody has reasons for believing what they believe, and will have reached their beliefs through a process of belief formation and reasoning. Even if people aren't always best at coherently explaining why they hold the beliefs they do, I always do my best to respect that their beliefs are important to them. I would say, beliefs held by large groups of people are even more important, especially if we do not understand them. It is often claimed "All Russians believe X", "All Chinese believe Y", and so on. Although this may not be true, I believe that even if it were, it only suggests that we ought to listen more and pay more attention. If a lot of people do believe X or Y, then we need to listen harder, so we may come and understand why X or Y resonates so strongly with such a large group of people of a shared background. The biggest problems I see in life are (1) People refuse to listen to, acknowledge and attempt to understand the positions of eachother, and (2) People refuse to treat others with inherent worth, value and an inherent human dignity. People dehumanise, so that "If these people say or believe something I disagree with, I can view them as no longer human". I may be radical in this belief, but I believe firmly that all people are human, and when people speak coherently and present an argument it deserves to be listened to and considered with the respect we would give to any human being.

Thank you so much for your comment. I think you gave really very important advice - listen. In these years I often see how people dehumanize each other and in the result we just have hatred. We all know about empathy but in real life we are very far from this word. We need to start to listen to each other more carefully and with love or respect. And I believe that in the end we will see that actually we all are not that different from each other like we used to think. We all lost something, we all dream about something, we all are brainwashed in something if it’s okay to use this word.

First, russian language has an incredible beautiful sound and melody. Second, Russia seems clearly the country of the 21st century, while the collective west is declining, due to it's shameful arrogance, combined with decadence and its appalling lies and brainwashed people. As a Swiss citizen i visited Russia twice within the last 14 month, 30 days each. An incredible rich country in many aspects with heeps of friendly, civilized, educated and intelligent people, astonishing architecture, culture, good taste and landscapes. I can't wait to visitlovely Russia again. Hopefully in a month or two.

Nothing to thank. I must admit, that i fell in love with you peoples and your country. I consider it now as a resort of sanity, and at the same time i feel deeply ashamed for the intolerable attitude and behaviour of the swiss government and a large part of the completely ignorant and hypocritical swiss people. Four years ago i was a proud Swiss. Now i feel ashamed for my country.

Guys if you already know some Russian, my advice is to start learning Ukrainian, once the war ("special operation")is over the country will be rebuilt and there will be a lot of opportunities since it will get a lot of money for rebuilt from the EU, many opportunities for everyone but Russian language will no longer be used in Ukraine at all, only Ukrainian, I think it's very promising for everyone who wants to rebuild a country and find new opportunities, the war will not end very soon, say 2 years from now, which gives us just enough time to learn the language!

People study foreign languages not only because of opportunities. I hope Ukraine will have a good future, but no one can say for sure what will wait for all of us after few years. Situation with Russian language in Ukraine is very difficult. It’s not that easy. Yes, now a lot of Ukrainians don’t want to speak Russian anymore, but there’s still people who wants. And sometimes they are judged because of it. I don’t think that it’s right thing to do. Any language is not only an instrument to speak. Language influence us, our thinking and worldview. To cancel a language means to cancel a part of a person from himself. In my opinion, the policy of more active use of the Ukrainian language in Ukraine should be carried out carefully and gently.

@@IloveRussian Thank you teacher, I personally love the Russian people and the Russian Language, politics is a different thing, but in this case it affects the language domain. I was just being practical, to know what will happen in the future, one just has to look back in history: after the war Ukraine will be a EU country and most likely a very important one, with a lot of influence, Russia will indeed get a piece of Ukrainian land, not what they want but at least a little so that everyone can be happy and put at end to the war, however I don't anticipate that to happen soon, the Russian government will not accept defeat now and the Ukrainians will not give up easily. As for the language the unfortunate news is that they will not speak Russian, look at what happen in the Balkans, Serbian was spoken there but then after the war, everyone embraced their own language and culture. Eventually the Russian language will come back but many decades will have to pass to forget the war, that's my thought teacher and I hope the war can end soon, but let's be honest a lot of dollars will flow into Ukraine after the war of that I'm sure of, the money is already there but in weapons at the moment, after the war EU and american money will be flowing into creating companies, state assets etc... I repeat I hope the war ends soon! :) peace

I wonder who washed your brain, друг. The EU already bankrupted itself with Covid-dictatorship and now pumping billions to corrupt Zelensky and his gang. Now, they decided to definitely steal the frozen russian state-assets, with the effect of a massiv outflow of foreign capital, as trust in european rule of law is ruined. Ukraine got cheated by the west, cheated badly and will not recover. No opportunities, dude. I you seek opportunities, hang on to BRICS.

And, by the way, what's wrong with russian politics? Putin deserves highest respect, as he managed to bring Russia up from the bottom to a most promising, flowering state. He managed to substantially reduce corruption, kick out the US-led, western-style, capitalist vultures and would-be philantropic criminals like George Soros. He kicked out the genetic-grain-mafia Monsanto etc. On the contrary to our Swiss government, same as G7, i saw, by recently traveling Russia extensively (St. Petersburg, Tver, Moscow, Nishni Novgorod, Smolensk, Tjumen, Tobolsk, Novosibirsk and Tomsk), encouraging signs of a government, which cares for its people and there well-being. Of course, there is much left to do, yet i got a confident outlook. I wished, current Switzerland had a government like Putin.

The only reason for me to even think about learning Russian is those gay Russian hulks. However, LGBT people are brutally prosecuted by anti-human Russian laws. Many former USSR countries are very racist as well. These are not even politics. Speaking of politics, I wish Russia could stop sending sexy men to the battlefields because your Russian men seem to be dying out. If there were only women in Russia, lol, I would very sadly not be able to find a reason to learn Russian. Putting politics aside, I wish Russia could become a part of the human being community one day by starting from treating racial and sexual minorities with kindness instead of justifying all the tortures and prosecutions that Russia has been imposing on them. I am just deeply disturbed by the negative influences that Russia has given to the modern world. I don't care about Russian musicians and authors that passed away hundreds of years ago. You are talking about 2023. I think by many standards Russia is far from being a civilized country in 2023. I find this video full of emotions and cliches. Sorry for giving you my honest opinion.

Thank you for your comment! I didn’t say that Russia is a perfect country without problems. Yes, we have some very bad laws, but I see that a lot of Russians don’t support our domestic politics. It’s hard to explain why people try to keep living without resistance. We need to know Russian history very well for this. I understand that you don’t care about Russian authors and musicians but I do, because for me country, it’s culture and people are much more than policy of one man in a certain period of time. Maybe I will make video about cool Russians who live now and do good things to the world. And I want to say that not only Russia has given the negative influences to the world, but now all the attention of people is paid only to this.

@@IloveRussian I am only interested in goodlooking men. I have no interest in Russian music or literature, but I respect that you do. I have subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to your videos about REAL modern Russia, not just positive ones. If everything in your channel were positive about Russia, that should be called "propaganda", and that's how all communist governments/regimes brainwash their own people. By the way, Putin must leave. I have a feeling that things will get a lot worse for Russia and the world, if Putin continues to rule your country. I know that it's not your fault. Cheers!
