Mike, You left a ton of information out. I am a 30+ years locksmith in California. There are also many types of specialized locksmiths. You can learn all there is to know in the locksmith world, but there are many accounts out there that I have learned make more money in a little time. I work on average 4 hours a day 6 days a week. most on call, but its so easy. I make a min $6,000 a week and my customers love me. these accounts are in every state and are easy to get and maintain.

@scgrigsby

That sounds like a government mandated apprenticeship where you the locksmith get to teach the minimum to the new guy so he won't be your competition and also pay him dirt. No apologies for sounding callous. The years of experience you mention are within reality but even more years are required depending on the specialty you choose.
@DrLockShop
7 жыл бұрын
It cost alot of money and time to have an apprentice, most company's cant afford to invest in apprenticeships, the cost is just too high for the tanning wage when you look at the return on investments, Most training locksmiths can not produce a regular return when training. with no guarantee the apprentice will not become your competition and use the tanning and info against you after the 4 years. And agree 4 years is not enough to be a specialist, need more then 4 years. It seems different places have different requirement for locksmiths, some better then others in some ways, but they all have their problems.. But the video talks about some good points about being in business and finding good work.

Add it on as a derive to your existing accounts. I took a course just be able to program remotes and added it on and I get free business with no advertising in addition to my regular roadside business. Remember most people that need a car key don’t care if the key works the door as long as they can lock, unlock the car and start it. So all I do is bring replacement remotes and program them and that’s it. Literally added $50k to my business.
