Luke Travers. 56th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. The key to the Cavs win today. NBL Veteran at 22 years old. When I looked at his comps compared to his contemporary status, I couldn't see it. Some admittedly exaggerated in calling him "Aussie Draymond". So I watched his performance in the 2022 NBA Summer League very closely (also because Evan Mobley was playing, lol) He showcased his impressive feel for the game from the first game to the last. He also showed his strong defensive inclinations and capabilities. He was constantly making plays on both ends. So when the 2023 Summer League came around, I was expecting him to not only show out, but earn an NBA contract. And though he played really well en route to winning the SL Championship with guys like Craig Porter Jr., Emoni Bates, Sam Merrill, Isaiah Mobley (Cavs fans know how fun that team was), he came short of that. Now this year rolls around, and he's playing with CPJ and Emoni who have gotten their varying levels of NBA exposure. This first game he played shows what I'm saying. 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals on 79% TS and +16 in 19 minutes. I'm expecting possibly a now-or-never situation with him this year, but overall, his performance in the last 2 Summer Leagues underscores his potential to be a valuable asset at the NBA level, and I can't wait to see how he performs. But for right now, this is Luke Travers.
If there's any other player you want a series on, let me know in the comments
(Vando Series Pt.2 Coming Soon, stay tuned)
