Palm oil is a major ingredient in more than half of packaged products Americans consume. Mass production of the crop is linked to widespread deforestation pollution, and human rights violations. Even as major companies are under pressure to change their policies to use palm oil "responsibly," making the crop sustainable is extremely difficult and expensive. We followed two palm plantations in Guatemala that are racing to prove that they can produce it in a sustainable way.
