I have some small hope things will change now that we are getting a proper backroom in place, but its going to take some time. ETH certainly is struggling tactically and seemingly tweaking some things but its just causing other deficiencies. I feel like Mainoo is already losing his abilities/instincts because of whatever ETH is instrucitng the players to do or not do. It feels like when youngsters come into the first team squad they look really good then if they stick around in it more they start losing aspects that helped them break into the team, almost as if our u21/u18 coaching is far better.

Casemiro at Madrid never received the ball because he sucks at progressing. It was always Modric and Kroos. Ugarte is not going to work either if he receives the ball to progress play. The one who should be receiving the ball from the centerbacks is Mainoo. The worst mistakes were from Casemiro, but there was a managerial mistake in letting him try to progress the ball. Mainoo was also not helping in defense to connect with the attack. Everything about our midfield was bad. Diallo was missed. Garnacho should start over Rashford.

Ten Hag's 'mistake' was trying to go toe to toe with them. Personally I would rather us show ambition and lose, than crawl into our shells at home, so I don't mind Ten Hag's bravery. You can do all the analysis, but realistically our only chance was if they played bad, we can't match players like Salah if they turn up, and we don't. Liverpool are simply a much better team than us, with years of continuity from one of the best managers of the past decade. That counts for a lot.

True, it's the only way to identify the problems, understand where they are, and try to fix them. If we play counter-attacking football against Liverpool and get a result, like last season, we'll never progress as a team that wants to rebuild. The board is trying to establish a new system with a modern playing style. If we want to rely on counter-attacking, then we might as well bring in Sam Allardyce or Roy Hodgson. These players are mostly Ten Hag's choices, but it's only the third time they've played together. Liverpool's system has been in place for seven years, and the players know it well. Slot just follows it. This is the system the board wants to build so that when they bring in a new manager, they won't have to tear everything down and start from scratch.

Idk what to feel. The only positive I can say about ETH is the intention. For the 1st time, we at least had the intent to press high, play out from the back against a Big 6 side (conceded less than 15 shots, had more possession) but it simply doesn't work and it's both on the players and managers. It's not that I am not irritated enough but I would explode if we would sit back, be compact to churn out a result. So, atleast one up, that's my opinion. This 4-2-4 will only work if we have like a Tchouameni & Valverde combo in the middle. Also, even if we manage to get our press right, be more intense and Ugarte would bring more composure and physicality, the main thing is lethal finishing because that's the kind of chances you get in transitions. Every time Pool attacked, it felt like we would concede, not because our shape was too horrendous or our defenders weren't up to the mark, but that's the feel you get when Salah, Jota and others push ahead, you feel terrified, and it's completely opposite with our attackers. It's like, ETH just hasn't been able to balance between results and style of play. 1st season it was results, great, 2nd was too being ambitious and adopting a play style not in line with the squad and injuries and that has carried here. Idk if the solution might be this simple, but just push the defensive line higher ffs!! I don't understand why they drop, it really is so infuriating man. It would reduce spaces in middle, suit De Ligt and Licha's aggressive intent, and utilise Onana's sweeping. Idk what's the logic behind it!! I still hope fans show patience, and I think this season will play out like Arsenal's 21/22 season. Things will definitely get better.

It's pretty simple. Ten hag uses a 3-1-6 in possession, 6 players overloading the other end of the pitch. Ten hag wants the 3 defenders and the DM (Casemiro) to be able to progress the ball through pressure to the 6 players overloading the offence. That's why players rush forward during build up, the aim is to overload upfront and score, that's if the ball is progressed but that can't happen if it's Casemiro doing it. He's a destroyer not a progressor but ten hag still insists to give him that role, and against good pressing teams like Liverpool it's catastrophic.

Many former Manchester United players seem to perform better after leaving the club, with Cristiano Ronaldo being a notable exception. This trend suggests that the issue lies not with individual mistakes leading to goals but with systemic problems involving tactics and coaching. Under Erik ten Hag, the team has been criticized for its aggressive style and high pressing, which often leaves the defense vulnerable when possession is lost. This approach has been exploited by opponents, leading to frequent defensive outnumbering. The attacking strategy also appears predictable, often breaking down at the final pass. The root of these issues may be traced back to the systems in place before the arrival of Jim Ratcliffe, with Ten Hag's tactics exacerbating existing weaknesses. Blaming individual players like Casemiro, Mainoo, Onana, or Lisandro for isolated errors overlooks the broader tactical flaws that need addressing

It looks like the way Ten Hag wants to play demands a level of excellence this team simply cannot reach. The tactics aren't at fault for individual errors. But considering the frequency at which we see individual errors costing us goals and games it is clear that something needs to change. And I don't believe we have anyone in the squad who can take over Casemiro's role of passing the ball around from deep.

Not only for this Liverpool game, I saw it since last season. Injury wasn't the problem, it was his tactics, his selections , the game plan.. the only reason he won two final games against pep was he worked under pep and know how pep thinks.. I don't think he ever will get fired no matter what happens.

Super analysis. On the Play out, aggressive forward passing &/or carrying surely work best as a threat against a default tactic - with more built-in-safety - of shorter, quicker 1-touch play between confident, mobile players. When the Pressers expect a short pass and having slacked off the tiring chasing between short passes, then a surprise run/longer pass skilfully and quickly done should work fine. Hang on, a I describing City or Di Zerbi's Brighton AGAIN...?😒 It does work exceedingly well, yet still seems so hard to adopt after so many £100Ms spent. Must be something I'm missing! Or, with quick marauding-loving wingers, could the ball in behind their FBs be tried not be tried more? - as an alternative to playing out... On the forward Press by UTD, CLEARLY they are STILL learning.... with suggests it's ETH that is still learning/not imparting the info well enough yet. It can't be that players just forget stuff between training and the pitch - surely quality players are better than that. Unless they are...refusing/unintelligent/unfit/unable to communicate/over-stressed/genuinely not good enough (gulp!)...🤔🤔🤔 Ok, It could be a few things. (Gotta admit I had a problem seeing clearly...as my reception was on/off. But I saw enough) Anyway, early in the season and a break atm - room for all to shake it off GOOD.

In midfield LIVerpool physically dominated Casemiro n Mainoo. I think Mainoo has been given alot of work . He is talented but he also needs experience to win the midfield battle. Casemiro miss pass lead to goal as our full backs were completely ahead at that time and couldnot recover. United cannot attack with lose pass. But still the players need to learn te tactics of ETH. The manager is not wrong but individual mistake lost the game. Moreover, If we see our players they dont battle or cannot battle physically like rashy, bruno, garnacho, mainoo and today it was Casemiro. Rashford is now an average player, he cannot dribble pass. He just back pass and his game IQ is less than average. Use ur brain, think out of box, fight with opponents for 90 mins. its 90 mins war, dont dive player shoulder to shoulder n stare in their eye like u will eat them. That is how everygame be played.

Great analysis. There are positives from the system and there’s still work to do. I hope the team learns fast. Also there’s need for counter movement when trying to play out from the back. A lot of times the players are just there waiting for the pass instead of filling open spaces to create passing lane. Liverpool was so good at doing that and that was why they beat United’s press all the time. The players are also lazy and may confused on how to move which I believe is a work for a the training ground. The movements is what will create opportunities to score goal. Every goal United have conceded this season is based on errors which I think need to be examined and learned from. It’s still the start of the season but at the same time work needs to be done so we don’t end up with a disastrous season. If we are able to keep the team fit it will work.

Ten Hag needs to find a tactic that works with the players he has instead of trying to force a high press when we are lacking the technical ability. Only Mainoo and Mazraoui who are technically gifted. Also, why is he forcing Bruno and Zirkzee in the same position. It made him so uncomfortable and looked like he had no confidence on the ball. I don’t know, just play him as a 9.

I think the players have to take some responsibility, they have to have game intelligence. The defence can see the midfield line in front of them, they have to move up. ETH isn’t telling them to leave 2 acres of space. The fullbacks are told to play high, but if being there means they aren’t helping Mainoo or Casemiro they need to drop back a little and get higher when it’s better to do so and when they are high Rashford and Garnacho need to push up to try and draw the opposition fullbacks deep. I think ETHs biggest mistake this game was pushing Dalot up when you have Salah behind him, it’s Salah ffs you can’t just hope he doesn’t find the space to put in a cross when your fullback is on the halfway line

Ironically enough Liverpool is also risking many players high, where if Utd had actually found their outlets they would have left four or five defenders behind the play. The difference in the two teams was that Liverpool's overall press effort was on the same sheet of music. Whereas the Utd press half of them are going through the motions.

what concerns me about liverpool is, against manchester united, the reds had only 48% possession, in a system that's based on possession. can't do that against arsenal or manchester city; those teams will destroy a back line. liverpool have to play with stifling possession against all comers, especially arsenal and manchester city. dozo deciding not to make it 0-4 from point-blank range kept liverpool from going the top of the table. yes, casimero made a bad pass on the first goal, but his teammates were busy ball-watching, leaving diaz and dozo unmarked on the back post. 5:49, if the ref had been on any other spot on the field, he would not have a clear view of diaz's legal tackle, and would have called a foul. i don't think casimero made a mistake. i think diaz was quicker than casimero.

Whether people like it or not, we were wayyy better with Mount on the pitch in the first two games. Our press is much worse without him, and we seem to lose a lot of control when he's not on the pitch. I think one thing we are clearly lacking is a controlling midfielder who can dictate tempo. I'm worried that Ugarte is the wrong profile on the ball still. People say that Mainoo is that player, but I think he showed why he isn't yet against Liverpool. Amrabat was available for £10m, and Joao Neves was available for £50m. I can't believe that we ignored these players. Both intelligent, aggressive, high energy players who would help us massively in and out of possession. 10:27 - This has been the case for years, but I honestly thought this would be solved with De Ligt coming in. I thought ETH was pandering to Maguire with the deeper line. The fact that the line is still that deep with a back 4 who are all comfortable playing a high line is incredibly worrying.

Onana, Martinez, Deligt and Mazraoui have all played for ETH before. If they cant play out from the back or play a high line then there is nothing to discuss anymore. We can say maybe Casemiro messed up but we also recovered possesion high in Liverpool's half. Zirkzee, Rashford, Bruno and Garnacho could not create anything out of those chances they just kept losing possession rather. But every recovered ball Liverpool created something out of it. No high line, and no playing out from the back with 4players who have played under ETH before, no creation of chamces so why recover the ball so high only to lose it again? And this is year 3. What actually have we improved under ETH and where is he headed? I am convinced he is not the right man for the job. Another thing ETH should know is that some of us have watched United win chanpoins leagues and league titles so he should stop mentioning trophies like he came to a club who never won anything before that is disrespect. We know the feeling of winning champions league. This man does not deserve to be the Coach any more. Liverpool's press was a double edged sword which could leave the vulnerable at times and on a different day with a different profile of players in the midfield receiving those passes, we could've really hurt Liverpool. In hindsight, tactical as well as individual errors cost us as always and it's becoming a prevalent theme for us as a football club. With the wealth of experience Casemiro has garnered over time, playing alongside arguably two of the best midfielders of their generation, forming a trident that went on to win multiple trophies together, it's ludicrous the kind of rookie mistakes he made that led to the goals. We started the game really positively and on the front foot. On a different day, we would've capitalized on the mistakes Liverpool made because this was far from a good performance on the ball from Liverpool's point of view as well but we made it so easy for them to win.

I Know Casemiro made mistakes, but the back line didn't close the space in good time. You quickly close space and the attackers are instantly offside. Liverpool press was so good with only front four. We missed Mount in this game. Also, Zirkezee looks raw in press. He is not sure what to do.
