If they can explain Big Boss being burned to death in MGS4 with Nanomachines, they can explain him being blown up by Nanomachines. Big Boss even says in MGS4 “you erased me twice before” which worked fine. However, now that looks like he really is covering Venom’s existence which does fit nicely into his whole character. Peace Walker would have been a fine ending for Big Boss, heck, having it be a one off story in 3 would probably have been stronger.

When Ocelot says "Don't worry he can handle it." because (in a slight 4th wall break) he knows YOU the player can handle it. The whole point of Venom was that, (assuming you created yourself with the character creator) YOU are Venom, and YOU are Big Boss's best man because YOU have been there with him his entire life because YOU played all the games. Before MGSV, you were by all accounts, ACTUALLY Big Boss because you played his life. The speech from Big Boss over from the cassette more than just wrapping up the plot points it is Hideo Kojima telling the fans of the series "I'm Big Boss and you are too, he's the two of us together. Where we are today we built it" and "Thank you my friend" for sticking with his series for this long, knowing he was on his way out of Konami. Kojima is telling the fans we are all as cool, idealistic and badass as Big Boss because we are his Phantom.

The ending to me is the ultimate proof of Big Boss's villany. He used his most loyal soldier, took everything from him and forced him to do his biding until he died without anyone knowing the truth, just as the US goverment did to The Boss. And before anyone goes with the "it was Zero's plan", he had the chance to free him after the coast was clear but he choose to keep using him to make HIS dream a reality. If anyone thinks that being "Big Boss" is an honor then they are as naive as Venom Snake, there is only ONE Big Boss (Ocelot says it at the end) and that is not gonna be you, because Big Boss doesnt give a fuck about you or Venom, he only cares about HIMSELF.

It depens on how you see the motivations of each mayor player on the entire Metal Gear saga, as you may know all of the events on the saga are basically fueled by The Boss's will and it's interpretation, everyone had there own view, Big Boss had one, Ocelot, Zero and even the Patriots had one, for all of them "the end justifies the means" because all of them though that they were doing what The Boss woud do to "unify" the World and ensure that soldiers have allways a place to be, i mean every one got it wrong but still they were fighting for what they though it was the "right" thing to do, im pretty sure Big Boss would give his own life if it meant that "The Boss's Will" becomes reality, i actually think that Big Boss never care about himself after The Boss's death. thats whats i love about this series it makes you question the morals of "right" and "wrong".

I don't think venom liked big boss after finding out in mgsv. I believe he starts building up outer heaven as a means to destroy big boss and big boss upon finding this out (or by seeing venom was becoming too powerful than he had intended) sends in solid snake. most people will say "he was meant to fail" but you can't forget the fact that he is a genetic clone of big boss and thus could fight effectively regardless of the the time he spent in the field. And I fell like that the only reason for why solid snake won against venom snake is plot armour because, for example, venom's level 3 stun arm can bring down lightning from the fucking sky.

I loved this game as much as the rest of the series but I have a few theories Firstly the game is called metal gear v for venom not mgs5 if you look at the rest of the games there's mgs, mgs 2, mgs 3 and mgs 4. So this was primarily venoms story and how he was a long-term plan to play as big bosses double diamond dogs bring a smokescreen for the real big boss who was secretly developing outer heaven which is hinted in the ending of venoms ending before he punches the glass.. Only thing they could have altered that they have him enter the battlefield vs. Solid snake and from the same view as msx you play as venom snake aka big boss and you are less equipped so you are meant to lose this battle. That cassette tape that had just noises which was picked up during ground zeroes was in fact setting v up. When you think about the ending and how it ties in with the original games it makes perfect sense.....no maybe it didn't suit everyone but like in this video kojima always wanted the player to feel in control and building diamond dogs and seeking your recruits was the players mission

after playing the game more than 80h I literally forgot that I created a character in the first minutes...the twist itself was great I think. But if you instantly "knew" this from this awkward little detail (which was explained to be the creation of your MGO avatar) then it's your fucking fault for being so pretentious. You didn't play to experience the game, you only played to see what expectations the game would fullfill. I admit it was hinted too obvious (if MGO would have released with the game it may wouldn't have been so bad) but I was curious about this moment too but I didn't jump to the furthest conclusion I could find and stuck with it. I even remember thinking "could it be...", but this was never hinted again in the game.

Someone's a little defensive. I'm not the only one who saw the character creation event and knew where Kojima was going, but apparently you're a little upset that you didn't. Why else would you call me "pretentious?" There were other hints, as well. The medic is Ground Zeroes is Keifer Sutherland only with his voice pitched down. That was the initial clue that Kojima was planning something. Don't be salty that some people are good at noticing things and are able to retain information throughout the course of a narrative. Seriously, dude...
@AgeofJP
6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm sorry I admit I'm usually very salty and defensive on MGSV...because I honestly think the game gets too much shit on youtube. This is a video which was supposed to be pro-mgsV and still there seem to be almost no possitive comments about the game. And that's too harsh for a game that I personally liked more than Witcher 3 or any other game that year. I get most of the critique (yours too) but I've experienced all these things too and not one of them ruined my fun with this game. All these aspects that were less good than in previous MGS games were still not bad compared to most other games and the aspects that were great are usually left out. I enjoyed the game because of my mindset and I believe it's the same reason many people hate the game. If MGS3 was a delicious steak, I see MGSV as a giant banquet where only the steaks aren't that good...and I feel everyone else bought that banquet just to eat steak and completely ignored even the taste of the other dishes it offers. But yeah, sorry for that...about the part with the hint I agree I was too defensive, and I also agree you're absolutely right. I just remembered when a friend of mine played the game he asked me if you play as someone else than Big Boss (because of the character creation) and I actually told him something "that's just the MGO character. Kojima likes to implement such things into the narrative". Makes my last comment wrong in almost every way
@forresthunter1483
6 жыл бұрын
Nah, it's cool, man. I have debates with friends all the time. I have honest critiques of MGSV and I wish many things were done differently, but for God's sake I played the game through to completion on both PS3 AND PS4! I've played the game for nearly 200 hours, combined. That obviously says something about how smooth and addicting the gameplay is. On top of that, I think it's fairly reasonable to say the stress Kojima and his team were under throughout the creation of the game (seemingly the fault of Konami's draconian business practices) put a sizable dent in the finished product. The fact that the game is as good as it is is truly a testament to Kojima and his team's abilities and vision.

I think people who didn’t get or liked MGSV, miss the entire point of MGS. “Snake” (Conceptual Snake), is someone going along according to a grander plot and script, to the tee. As stated by Ocelot in later games, anyone under the right circumstances can be made to play Snake. You’re always undermined by someone who made you into what you become. And Big Boss ultimately is the real villain, so what better way to be betrayed in the very last game than the series antagonist himself? Every Snake is a clone of Big Boss, a thing Big Boss resents. How fitting is it to have Big Boss use his clones to play as his pawns, including a symbolic clone (Venom Snake), adopt his filthy title in spite of The Boss, and live out his version of a Pangea where soldiers are free of control? It was brilliant of Kojima to drop this mic this way. A lot of people just didn’t like the sound of the mic feedback from the drop. Anyone can be Big Boss, but also no one can. Big Boss is his own character that we were betrayed by, that we never got to play as. And I think that’s just good game design and story telling right there.

I was the first in north america back in 1998 that got the BIG BOSS ranking in MGS1 psx , still have the save on my old memory card. my best friend didnt believed me until i show the last 10min of gameplay and show him the rank. No Walkthrought , No cheats , No internet back then (at least for the poor guy i was) Only had the Official Guide bought in the same time. Achieved with OLD SCHOOL gameplay Tears & blisters on thumbs !! My best year was 1998 !! ...but this achievment turned my head hair with white/grey color ....I never tried this on MGS2 and following games....no fucking way!

Even though I initially felt let down about not being the 'real' Big Boss...finishing the Truth mission changed how I felt. Venom Snake IS the real Big Boss. The "demon" who wreaks havoc and destruction, forming Outer Heaven, this is Venom Snake. He's the one I played as and the one I wanted to play as. I just didn't realize it until Big Boss explained it in the end. So I ended up feeling betrayed as hell by Big Boss (which was the intention) and more connected (and a bigger fan of) with Venom Snake. That alone ended up making me love the game.

I thought MGSV was great when I didn't know the details. After I completed the game I was cool with what Kojima was trying to do with the "Ending" so i was pretty thrilled and exicted. Then I went on the "internett" saw a lot of videos on why the ending was so dull, it really made me "think" about it. So everytime i play MGSV again, I'll always have this negative mindset that ruins the game from the beginning. The game is pretty repetetive and story is bad. You know? It wasn't really healthy watching videos of other "people" opinions on the game story. Because it just ruined my experience, my "hype" I got from those trailers. MGSV was a good game pre release. Post release not so good. The thing I hated the most post release was when I just wanted to re-do a mission I couldn't get myself to play as Snake. I always decided to go with my avatar. Venom Snake made Big Boss look like an genius to me. I didn't feel for Venom at all so i don't care about his aftermath. sorry for sloppy writing, i am writing this late at night so.

TPP creates more problems than it solved. Ocelot, Liquid and Mantis are all together at one point in this game but that's never referenced after, they knew each other way before MGS1. Ocelot's character is broken in this game, Skull Face isn't a bad character but overall his impact was a simple fart in the wind. All the technology from MGSV is never talked about afterwards, no vocal cord parasites, no more Sahelantropus, no more Skulls, Quiet's unresolved story. Miller's existence is completly different from MGS1....

While the twist in of itself isn't that bad, the fact that most of chapter 2 was retreading old mission and then getting this dropped in your lap was not good. Because of that it had no build-up or significance. If it had build-up like the twist in MGS2 then it would have been recieved better as a Metal Gear game. Still had empty enviroments and sub-par bossfights, but still. The story could have really benefited for some more context after that. Welp, time to fire up MGSV again... forgot how good of a game that was despite all the harsh criticism, its probably my favorite of the series... I think it just needed a few more scripted events to really tie everything together... open world games are a tough cookie to get right sometimes and it made me appreciate the linear aspect of previous titles a little more. Having said that, I really enjoyed the routine of deploying for a mission... made me feel like a kid again as far as roleplaying as a soldier goes. :-p

If you want the player to feel like big boss, play MGS3. Fucking stupid excuse used to justify an incomplete game. Chapter 1 had over 35 missions while chapter 2 had about 6. That should be a hint to how incomplete the game was. Adult Chico didn't even make it into the game and he was going to be the Ninja, wearing a blood red cloak and wielding a massive machete, his ommission was explained away with a lazy cassette tape conversation. The game is so empty it's painful.

As a huge MGS fan I was completely disappointed by this game. It lacked so much compared to other MGS titles. Extremely repetitive and overall boring. The lack of interesting boss's and the lack of conversation by Snake himself. They got a real actor and he says so little compared to previous snake. He mainly just grunts. The constant landing the chopper and going to the same area over and over ruined the experience. Not only that terribly boring missions and terrible boss fights. I beat all of them on the first try. Man on fire was interesting. Quiet lol easiest sniper mission of them all. I can't remember ever beating a metal gear on my first try but in this far too easy. Sahelanthropus nice scrabble name Not only are they boring missions you have stupid intro credits to each mission giving away who's in the mission for instance skull face. Imagine if Sniper wolfs name appeared before the second battle with her jesus. Thank fuck the PC version had a mod to remove this. I also had to remove the fucking retarded helicopter parts but I didn't see that mod to near the end of the game. Speaking of skull face spoiler alert nothing fucking happens. You spend far too long in a jeep with him while he rambles on and later he dies simple as. Some of the cut scenes are good but every other title are miles ahead bar one or two. I stop using D-dog because he made the game far to easy by marking everything and another mod I had to install was to shut quiet up from the humming. Right I'll end it here because I could go on and on lol. Imo worst of the series on console . (we don't talk about the spin off with blonde boy. bayoneta 2.5)

The biggest problem with MGSV in my opinion is the portrayal of Ocelot. The only rationalization I have for his personality change is maybe he was more subdued and trying to play it cool because he was around the love of his life Big Boss.
@SPM0717
6 жыл бұрын
J D He's purely being himself because he is around his idol Big Boss, and has no reason to put on an act or use psychotherapy around those he is trying to deceive as portrayed in the other games. Fun fact: Kojima actually got a bit stern with Troy Baker, Ocelot's voice actor, whenever his mannerisms got too close to the previous voice actors, Patrick Zimmerman and Josh Keaton, so I'm sure Kojima had this all planned out.

Kojima wanted it to the phantom pain for us to cuz we care for a man who is not. It's a phantom game, We play it and it cheats us. Not only that, we (a group of people, not everyone, I know...) feel betrayed and frustrated with the image of Big Boss cuz he used a man to decent into hell like him, I think that's fucked up even if this man, the medic wanted, cuz Big Boss knows they all loved him as an icon. So he already was a demon... Letting another man to destroy his life... And that Last audio with Zero was incredible. Zero wanted him BACK... And in MGS4 Big Boss wanted Zero to die...

there was never an issue with the games ending, i liked it, it felt appropriate and wrapped up the series as Kojima wished. the issue with mgsv was the structure of the “episodes” the move to open world and filler content. the game does not work as a single entry as you require the back story from mgs3 and peace walker as without context nothing regarding the narrative will make sense to someone picking the game up for the first time.

People care more about compelling stories and characters than consistency. The MGSV ending did nothing less than destroy the franchise's story, while bringing consistency to an event (MG1 Big Boss death) that literally no one asked for. Bad guys seemingly die and come back all the time. Especially in 80's media. I lost all respect for this franchise and Kojima because of MGSV.

Metal Gear for the NES is non canon. The 2 MSX2 computer games are canon. Plus if you PAID ATTENTION to the end of the first game, Big Boss calls you on the radio saying he survived and would meet Solid Snake again someday. So the phantom bullshit is not needed. In fact it contradicts MGS4 where Big Boss says that Snake vanquished him twice, when now we know that they only fought the 1 time.
