I really liked what you said about “being your own patron.” I’ve been working a part-time job in the food industry ever since high school, and sometimes, the hours spent working feel so draining because I’m always so focused on the craft I could be doing instead. This video really inspired me to switch my perspective. This job, in fact, is allowing me to fund what I love, pursue skateboarding and my degree, and keep me fed. I’ll keep working hard!

I just recently finished "Real Artists Don't Starve" as well. Good book and actionable advice. My only qualm was what you talked about with idea #4 re: location. This part of the book really challenged me and kind of upset me for a day or two because I couldn't think of a good scene in my area for me to access inspiration. Perhaps I don't know about it yet, which you mentioned as a possibility. But I don't think Goins did the best job explaining how to find your scene. I asked a bunch of people around me how to find a good scene of writers - the only real answer I got was NYC, which I don't find to be a good example, lol. I think the internet gives people the ability to find a scene without having to move cities or states or even trek down the road to some coffee shop or whatever. And I personally find a lot of inspiration through reading as you mentioned. So maybe it's just in front of me and I don't know about it yet. But I also feel like the way Goins described it wasn't completely fair or accurate.

I've trapped myself by not investing in myself until I already start to see success. Stuck in a low quality loop and putting up arbitrary barriers between myself and my goals. Im making it much harder then it needs to be. I guess I'm not convinced that what I'm making/want to make is worth anything. Regardless, thanks for another great video with excellent advice. I'm tempted to enroll in Sinbad school but this already feels like I got free tutoring.

Being your own patron is the the key for most I think. Because most of us don't know wealthy people to fund our dreams. I've been my own patron for the greater part of a decade, and have now reached financial independence so that I no longer have to work. Now I have to time to focus fully on my creativity.

You’re likely coachable too, which always helps :) …I was a high performance competitive rowing coach for many years, who also hired a lot of coaches - the most important attribute to look for in a good coach is patience. There are of course other important attributes, but genuine patience with the people you’re coaching will create more results than anything.

Hey Captain, been following you since day one, big fan and supporter of your work. I had some feedback regarding your new coaching course, and as much as I would like to be part of it, but the price is a bit too high. The fact that people get to spend time with you on coaching sessions is great, but I was wondering if you can do another, cheaper versions, for example, one that’s possibly half the price, and at the same time, takes up half your time, or maybe even less. As someone that is attempting to get into the youtube space and learn from masters such as your self, working in corporate, it would be awesome to get 1-1 coaching, but a cut down version would be awesome, just a thought :)

What did you learned from Bulldog Mindset in particular? Also I think whole video about how to find mentor would be a good one. People say "find mentor", but how do you find mentor? How do you choose mentor? What is your relationship with mentor should be? So many aspects to go into detail about here.

I would like to add something on to the “ practice in public” point . Yes it’s very true that creativity is very high /people can create better when people work in groups . But i think it’s also important that you can find people who are in the same page or at the same level of creativity , let me give you a personal example , i do music as a hobby and i am slowly starting to get more into it , while doing that , me and my musician friends just kinda jam together and practice together and try to compose our own stuff and we bounce ideas off of each other , but each one of us interested in a different style or even a different genre of music , and often while playing and making songs atleast one of us is not really into it . While this example might be irrelevant to a lot of you , i think what we can learn from this is , similar to musical genres we need to find people who are in the same creative genre too , as working with people who don’t align with us creatively can be very unproductive and discouraging
