ive used nu finish for decades, a little story had a 1985 dodge caravan great vehicle had over 400, 000 trouble free on it(except having to adjust the multiple chains and that silly thermowax carburetor on that horrible 2.6 mitsu carburetor with a plunger on a dead end tube from the rad that took 20 minute to go from high idle to low made it fun on icy roads) on it(Im in hamilton ontario not too far where you grew up) used nu finish every weekend even though it is a once a year wax, lol young and stupid and way too much time on my hands, ten years later it had no Rust was immaculate and the guy who bought it looked at the rear window wiper and said the paint is peeling off here!! It turned out the paint was fine it was the multiple layers of nu finish lol :)

Scotty Kilmer - I need your help PLEASE. I own o 2005 Toyota Tacoma truck with a steering issue. Toyota seem to have installed a plastic green bushing/washer on the lower steering wheel shaft that wears out over time. I’ve been looking for a fix for over a year now and I’m no closer to resolving my issue. So far I’ve seen one guy tack welded his to where the plastic green /bushing would be and another guy inserted shims and used wire ties to how the shims in place. I’ve tried this method and it worked for a couple weeks but shortly afterwards,the shims worked their way out and the problem returned. Can you PLEASE help ? Thank you 🙏🏽

Im a car detailer and I'm not angry. If Scotty says it doesn't work then I won't even waste my money on this stuff. I don't even think any car detailers would be angry except for the company that made this over priced junk. All waxes and car soaps are generally good and reasonable priced that you see in stores. My favorite wax is meguiars ultimate liquid wax, you can wax it under the full Sun, if you accidentally get it on plastic trim it doesn't turn it white, you wax the entire vehicle before you take it off. Its easy to go on and take off. And it lasts for 6 months! A lot longer if the vehicle stays in a garage or carport when parked. I once had a client that paid me to wax his wife's suv after 6 months since the last wax job and after I sprayed water on it , the water still beaded up on it and I told him it didn't need it. He told me to keep the money and put wax on it when it needed it. This went on until the wax was 11 months old and it was still beading up. I went ahead and put a thin layer of wax on it because he already paid for it and I didn't want him to think the reason I kept putting it off was because I didn't want to do it.

Scotty, certified Nano Ceramic coating installer here. It’s all in the prep, a proper prep and paint coatings (quality ones like GTechniq) are amazing. Absolutely must do a good clay bar and single stage if not dual stage polish on them via machine, then an IPA wipe then application. Application is more difficult on the high performance ones, and they are legit. Google nano ceramic coating under microscope and you can see how it actually works. Some work better then others.
@asdf072xxp

For the paint coatings, you really need to have the paint corrected before applying it. NuFinish is loaded with fillers that hide flaws, but putting a coating on bad paint won't make it look any better. Also, most coatings can't be used in the sun, as in NO sun. Just parking your car under some trees isn't going to cut it. Any sun, and it'll flash way too fast, and make the car look terrible.

Don't rule out all ceramic coatings based off that one Scotty, good ceramic coatings can last upwards to 3 years. Im an Detailer and we do this pretty frequently. Its a huge difference. It keeps your car looking like its been recently waxed for years, Makes dirt fall of super easily, and does a better job of protecting your paint then any wax or sealer. Its also phenomenal on your rims and especially headlights. Nothing short of respraying a clear coat over freshly clean lights will match the protection and look this stuff can give. Either the product you used was hot garbage or maybe the instructions were wack, But we use Carpro Cquartz and love it. From what you said it sounds like maybe you didn't get all the wax off first. General application rules from a guy who does this a few times a month 1. Wash and claybar car 2. Wash again. 3. Do any paint correction/Wetsanding needed because your stuck with whatever you seal. 4. Clean panel with highest grade alcohol you can get. You want to hear a squeaking noise when you run you gloved hand over it. 5. Apply coating in a crosshatch pattern. 6.(Optional) Repeat step 5 again. Better coverage and better endurance, Papa Johns. 7. Wait for however long its says to and buff off with a clean microfiber. 8. Let it cure. Give it time to do its thing. We try to give it 3 days for best results but its driveable after a few hours if you can't wait.

So many things to say... where to begin? First, nano-ceramic coatings should not be applied by the average car owner. 90% of the application is the preparation of the paint, that includes perfectly washing (which most people can't do), deconaminating (that most people don't even know it is a thing), polishing and finally making sure to remove any oils, grease or wax on the paint. Then applying the product in the correct manner and the allocated time (depends on the product). A good coating will last years, where your typical wax will last weeks and you typical sealant (like that New Finish) will last months. They are also more resistant to chemicals and offer slight scratching resistance from damage usually done during the wash or drying of the car. They are also super hydrophobic, much more than waxes and sealants making it easier to wash the car and preventing water and dirt from sticking as easily to the car. So they are good products, just don't try to do it yourself unless you are willing to spend 10s of hours learning all of the needed detailing skills to do a correct job. Your comparison would be like me, who is not a mechanic making a video saying : "Hey, don't repair your engine if it breaks. You are better off buying a new car. I ordered this crank shaft off Ebay and installed it. The engine never ran again... what a scam". The problem would not be the crank shaft, it would be me not having the skills to do a very complex mechanical job.

yeah, youre better off buying a whole new printer by that point, also when you print in color the cyan color always seems to be missing and even when it drains the fastest ive opened up one of those things, they still contain enough color on the cartridge for at least 40 or more pages, but the printer tells you it cant print until you get a cyan color, even if youre printing in black and white it never actually uses black toner, what it does is mix the blue yello and green to make black so you will have to pay more money for the color ink cartridges, because those cartridges cost a lot more then your run of the mill black ink cartridge. So by the time your cyan color runs out, it says it cant print in black and white, even though the only colors in the printer are black and says it can print 500 pages in black ~_~

And yes you can pay less for carnauba wax or synthetic wax (sceallants) but the real pros of ceramic coatings is they last about 1.5 years. The best bang for buck IMO is synthetic scellants since they last not bad about 5 months and are not to costly.
@williammyers8382

I just finished detailing a truck that had a ceramic coating last monday. My honest opinion about it.... Well that coating that the previous detailer told my client said he guaranteed it to last two years. My thoughts... I don't believe that it will last as long as he had said. Yes it kinda helps cleaning the surface while washing the vehicle, but if it's neglected, it won't last too long. It felt the same as a polished and waxed vehicle. I personally wouldn't purchase to have a ceramic coating put on my vehicle. I just think that a lot of detailers over-hype this service and try to upsell it to their customers. Overall, get a real good detail done first, then follow it up with a maintenance program if your detailer offers it. This can be cheaper to than the ceramic coating. Or do it yourself (detail & maintenance). Good video Scotty. I see a other detailers promoting this nano technology stuff to the public, boasting how great their product is. LOL!

You’re right about one thing. They don’t sell it in stores for a reason. And that reason is most people have no clue how to properly apply a ceramic coating. A real ceramic coating that has been properly applied is NOT a nonsense product. A ceramic coating job from a professional can run anywhere from $750-$3,500+. You can definitely argue that the cost is not worth the benefit, but that is subjective. But the product is quality. There’s a reason many car enthusiast wouldn’t think twice about having one applied. There are even coatings like that have self healing capability’s. You can pour hot water on the paint and the swirls or scratches actually heal themselves. Somethings that are misleading is some companies market them as being scratch “proof” which they’re not. They are however more scratch resistant

I've never tried Nu Finish. I haven't tried that Meguiars product, either, but their other products are great, so no doubt their wax is great too. The best product I've personally used was called Auto Glaze, but they changed the name, so I don't know what it's called these days. It's not a polish, in the conventional sense. It comes out like runny toothpaste, but quickly hardens. Meaning it needs to be applied to cold paint in the shade and buffed within one to two minutes after application. The product actually has tiny beads of glass in it. After buffing, the paintwork was actually more reflective than the glass of the windows! It leaves that super-shiny look that expensive cars have in adverts.

Quality coatings do perform very well, naturally you have to prepare the surface properly (clay, polish, remove grease/wax or residue) then apply it. Granted, many coatings are hard to remove, especially professional ones (only certified detailers have those). But again, when it comes to paint and detailing it properly, you should look into it a bit more .. I wont even link the video you posted on polishing, common sense tells you its not how its done. I'll say again, you're a great mechanic and I enjoy that content alot. So, dislike on the video, but a subscribe in general.

- But what if you're battery has died and you have a modern car? Many of these modern cars don't even have physical key slots to open the car when the battery dies. This means that the owner has to either break a window, or find some other obscure way of gaining access to the battery. Once again, it's planned obselecence from the manufacturers.

Read your owners manual. It should tell you how to access your vehicle when it has a dead battery. The owners manual is like a mini “bible” for your car. When you purchase a new/used car One of the first things you should do is read the owners manual from beginning to end. If you’re buying used and there is no owners manual tell the dealer you want one or no sale. Every car should come with its manual. And leave them in the car. Not in a desk drawer at home. That will never help you on the side of the road.

Scotty I for one have had some experience in the nano technology of ceramic coatings usually there is a preparation steps before you apply the coatings. Usually people who buy the ceramic themselves and apply it see very poor results because they didn't follow the directions to the T. And BTW that bottle of "nano technology" for the paint surface iron 9 w/e I have never heard of that brand in the coating business. So chances are they are a scam. The ceramic coatings market is a booming business so everyone and their mother is trying it out. My advise is dont tell people to just outright disregard all coatings since your 1 test failed. Scotty you talked about scientists and trying to get more information on the product. You failed to even follow the scientific process. Pretty disappointed in this video. I wouldn't trust the stuff goes in your engine though that's for sure ahhaha. But for ceramic coatings. My guess is you used a horrible product. Should have tried Cquartz that stuff is perfect works amazingly better than most consumer products I have experimented with. And my car has been coated for over a year and it still beads up water like the first day i applied it.

All these "nano" (usually copper based) additives that magically "rebuild" cylinders do nothing except filling in the scratches for a short period of time and provide additional lubrication which DOES improve engine overall smoothness (it's just a proven fact, there is no need to argue about it), BUT it really only helps for a very short period of time and it doesn't actually fix anything long term, of course. However I'm not sure why you included ceramic sealants into the same category. I mean, of course, if you just apply it as is, it's not going to do much. But if you actually follow the instructions (and you do have to have your car's paint corrected and polished first, otherwise it's just a waste), prep the car and seal it, it will last you approximately 2 years (good quality stuff, of course, like CQUARTZ PRO). That is, of course, if you never use an automatic car wash. I had it done to my black (so the worst colour) car and it actually lasted about 2.5 years before swirl marks started to crop up. So this actually works much better and for a much longer term than even the best synthetic waxes like Meguiar's if the car is properly prepped and the coating is applied properly. And, of course, it has to be good quality stuff. It's really easy to observe the results when you wash your car - dirt comes off much easier and water beads like crazy (similar to when you apply water repellant on your windshield, but this is long term, because it's baked). If you do it right, what you are doing is essentially restoring your original clear coat state of that of a brand new car, which brings in all the perks (looks great, doesn't attract dirt as much, washes off easily and it's really easy to dry after).

Usually I find Scotty's videos informative and well presented. This video contained a lot of shouting and no actual proof. It seems that ceramic and polymer (SiO2) sealants are the hot stuff right now and there should definitely be solid proof that these products work. However, just shouting out your opinion makes it seem a lot like someone either paid you to make this video.

Molybdenum disulfide is a powerful lubricant that can be found in some oil additives and there’s plenty of research to back its lubrication effects are due to its molecular layered structure. However if not dissolved properly or begins to crystallize, it will be filtered out by the oil filter.

AG. I mean that is a logical fallacy... In his windshield wiper video he explained that the reason shops rarely carry silicone blades is because they last longer. So "not carrying it in shops" is not a valid reason to say something is bad. Honestly, I think Scotty is fairly uninformed on this topic, and I implore you to do some research on your own before making up your mind on ceramic coatings.

My car has a ceramic coating on it (About 3 layers) and one door doesnt, it was polished but I ran out of coating so I waxed it, it has been more than a year and the car still repells dirt, birdpoop, water, etc, but the waxed door seems not to be protected anymore, you can't remove dirt with a power washer as easy as the ceramic part, birdpoop sticks and leave stains in the clearcoat and water doesnt flow like the ceramic part. Now on the nano department, I bought a ''Nano green'' thing on amazon for my 1.9 tdi, blowby was the same and made the Injector-pump misfire at random. So the nano thing only got in the injectors loom and randomly made them not fire when they needed to.

I suppose some TiO2 based coating in the paint could help keeping the car cleaner or washable with rain but I bet it would be very expensive. Car catalysts are full on nanotechnology as manufactured defects on the surface help adsorb the molecules and convert CO to CO2 (and water)

I have a 94 mustang that still shines better than any brand new car in a showroom I’ve ever seen. I use Collinite 885 marine and aeronautical grade paste wax. I use it on my boat and one day I decided to use it on my car. I won’t use anything else. One of my friends tried the nano coating and was complaining that the water doesn’t bead up like it’s supposed to. I pour water on my car and it all runs off and stays dry. Unbelievable product. Of course I recommend a light cut with a buffer before applying to smooth the surface, but you can apply this stuff once or twice a year and never have to wash your car again. I run a water hose over my car when it’s dirty and lightly wipe with a microfiber and dry it.

The only additive I would put in my oil is Marvel Mystery Oil, but not too much to thin too much. I have seen too many testimonials including my own of buying a used car, and changing the oil, then soon putting MMO in the oil, which soon blackened the oil, having to change it soon after. If the oil gets black and gritty, change It out soon. This is one reason why It is good to not put too much in at a time. It slowly and safely cleans cheaply. It may be good for cold starts. Don't put 20 percent content because it will make it too thin at operating temperature. Also, I think it is better to wait closer to oil change time to put in oil, because I don't know how long it lasts over 1,000s of miles with a strong film. I have gotten tough grime off my hands easily from working on cars without gloves, even though I know it can't be good to touch your skin with MOM as experimental. If you don't believe in additives, put a good quality oil filter, and don't go too long between oil changes....probably more often than the manual says.
