Is there a way to mix oil and water?
This experiment shows and explains why oil and water don't just mix.
The molecules in water have positive and negative charges. We call such molecules with partial charges as polar molecules. On the other hand, Oil has no positive or negative charges. It is made of non-polar molecules.
Soap is made of molecules that are “water loving”, hydrophilic while oil is made of “water fearing” molecules or hydrophobic.
Without soap, water and oil cannot mix because they are made of different molecules. Soap acts like a bridge between oil and water molecules to help them all mix together.
