I think it's important to give yourself an activity for growth over time. You mentioned workouts, but for me it's learning a new language. You don't necessarily get an immediate dopamine hit and feel better immediately, but over time I think it helps as you can look back on progress.

@@Rascilon25 oo that's a pretty cool one! That really does illustrate how individual self care really can be though

I make time for creativity. I have a lot of hobbies, mostly the artsy, crafty kind. I like to use those to help offer a meditation of motion where repetition and focus help to channel my emotions and process my situation. Yoga is nice when I need to connect my body and my mind.

@@AmyDee13 that's pretty cool! I've noticed there's something to those repetitive patterns where you can really get in a zone

I definitely agree that we need a whole paradigm shift regarding self care and understanding mental health. At this point, we need to also focus on longevity and sustainability. We live in a society where it's commonplace, expected, really, to burn out on our everyday tasks, especially at work. If we could find a balance between work and play, so to speak, I'm sure we would all live healthier, happier lives. Personally, I think we should start with work benefits like days off, vacation time, etc. while still maintaining gainful (and livable!) employment.

And what you're talking about is where a lot of self care conversations fall short. We talk about doing self care with work environments that aren't conducive to that kind of resiliency and mental health maintenance
