I found and hid ducks for the first time on my last cruise. It was a lot of fun and helped me explore the ship and notice things I normally wouldn't. And I noticed that it kept kids engaged while they were walking around. They were too interested in finding ducks to be whiny.

We love it, its a way to spread a little joy! 😊 ..we hid one on Miracle in a public area behind a sofa, promenade area and it was there for like 4 days! Crew had cleaned all around it.. LOL!!😄. That was on Miracle.. a lot of crew knew about it and love finding them too, we even witnessed a crew member taking a quick photo of one we hid and smiling big about it.. later we found out the crew had a competition to see who found the most on voyage and they would just take a photo of it and leave it for a guest to find😄..I.think its great, but then again I'm a social kind of person❤

We don't cruise often, but on one trip I believed I found a duck, and I was not familiar of the trend. I thought at the time that it was odd that a toy duck is left behind and I did not even touch it, and I left it alone "as is". Now that I think back, it was a "lost opportunity" for me to record this finding, and pass along the challenge to the next person. So I am now anxious to find a duck on my next cruise vacation.

This. Is. Awesome. What a wonderful way to share a little fun! As for those who think it's a waste of time - then just don't participate. Easy. And, as someone with a family member who collects rubber ducks (sent her the video immediately) I can confidently say that the variety of 'costumes' available is wildly entertaining and never gets old. 🦆🍍

As a student of sociology i think you hit the nail on the head about the reasons we enjoy these type things. We frequently visit the Texas Renaissance Festival and hide little baubles especially on Halloween weekend and Christmas weekend. It's fun. The one problem i see is number of people hiding large amounts of ducks. On their Facebook page you routinely see people posting that they have dozens and dozens of them to hide. One specific poster said she had over 60. That's a bit much and that might lead the cruise lines to eventually put a stop to it. Overall i think it's sweet and wonderful i just wish people wouldn't bring 60. Excellent thoughts as usual. Love you❤

I appreciate your thoughtful assessment of this fun thing as a way to connect with other people in a culture that is increasingly isolated. Of course, we're on a ship with 3000+ other people but there's little real contact with the others. I just hid 12 ducks on my last cruise and didn't find any, but man, was it fun to leave them to be found by others!

Greetings.....We take three to four cruises a year and last year we started creating our own Facebook group for the cruise we were taking. A person in our group reached out to us with questions about the duck thing she witnessed on her previous cruise. We had heard about it as well and decided to extend it to the entire group. OMG....!!!!! It blew up. We had a total of 145 people in our group and we all brought 6 ducks to hide. Can you imagine the duck takeover. The Carnival Vista was so overwhelmed with ducks that a few times we saw crew members with ducks hanging out of their pants on key lanyards or on there neck lanyard. For our upcoming cruise we asked that each member only bring 2 ducks. We are up to 75 members for our Christmas Cruise. Until we meet on the Lido, Happy hunting. Coop

Scavenger Hunts are always fun! There's a fad of hiding specific rocks or tokens in planters around Las Vegas. Once, we knew friends were going to visit Las Vegas the week after us, so we took pictures of servers/dealers (with their permission) as well as parts of attractions. Our friends had to find them and write down where they were. It was fun for both groups.

This is a lot of fun! You got me when you compared it to the overpopulation of coyotes! I was like, what is this guy talking about??? Lol. That being said, I do hide, a lot of ducks, I found a few as well, and I keep them. Is part of my fun on the ship. With 41 cruises, I have heard of this only recently, so in October is going to be the 5th cruise where I will hide ducks. I give away some too. Like to the crew, they love collecting them, also I handle one to a crying child or just any kid to see their smile.... it works always....

I also started a facebook page, Cruise Ship Life, which i hope will grow as people find my ducks and post their find. Yeah, with all the hoopla in the last year about cruise ship ducks, it may get crazy. Ill start keeping the ones i find then!
