one thing to keep in mind: female pigeons are very quiet, but males are much louder and noisier in comparison. when my male is contact calling from my bedroom I can faintly hear him hear him all the way downstairs on the first floor. he also coos a lot to show off and dance. not near as loud as a parrot though!!

There are literally 100's of breeds of domestic pigeons that have been developed from the wild "Rock Pigeon" over the centuries by humans. They come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, colors & patterns. They're very intelligent & have gladly put willing humans to work feeding, watering, housing doctoring & cleaning up after small & large coops of them. Thanks for the video! I have a family of pigeons visiting my balcony since April, 2020. At first, it was just a pair, they would come have their seeds everyday, and soon, by August, they would come right to the window, looking in for me to feed them. I cant remember what the date was but they were also mating, maybe it was June-ish. Then, a week or so ago a third pigeon showed up with them looking a bit scrawny and kind of bald, I think it’s their baby. It was eating with one of them, so I wonder if they will stay for Winter, it’s pretty mild here, but rainy! Hi, good question. We can control the poop with her wearing pigeon pants (check out my video on that) but also she mostly poops on her perch. At times I see her pooping elsewhere but I clean it up right away. I used to be grossed out by bird poop but when it's your own bird and you love it, it's like cleaning up after your baby. Cats have litter boxes you have to clean. Dogs have poop you have to pick up. Human babies have diapers and blowouts. Birds have poop too. That's how I see it, anyway :)

I've had dogs, cats, and kids. Everything my pet pigeon said is true, and I would add a couple of things. They eat seeds and plants, so their poop dries quickly into little balls of "hay", and it doesn't stink. Cleaning up poop from my other animals, and changing diapers used to make me gag, I've never had that reaction with a bird.

He would get very upset if I put him back in his aviary and one time he quickly turned and bit me on my cheek. A cockatoo bite is horrible…it scars because the flesh gets rolled under the skin due to the shape of their beaks. My Moluccan also had very painful scarring bites. Pigeons are sweet and easy.

I have a rescued male pigeon and he is actually not at all loud - not compared to parrots but compared to females. He just scares away if someone else than me goes close to his little cat house that he uses as as a nest. For me, they are best pet bird imaginable. And if it happens that they escape, they get back :) But of course avoid this because they can get hurt many ways when they escape or even pick up diseases outside. But owning parrots once I would never own one again. Pigeons are the best pet birds and it is so much more humane to have one as a pet not only because they are much more content with life in a house, but also they are not so desperately attached to an owner while at the same time being equally or even more affectionate.

Parrots sure are harder to take care of than pigeons, but once you get used to it they are great. Although, especially for very intelligent birds like African Greys you sort of have to treat them less like a pet and more like a child. You need to give them constant attention for them to be happy. Also, there were a few things wrong with this video. 1. Parrots don't just repeat what you say, depending on the species they can actually understand what certain words mean 2. Parrots are EXTREMELY trainable, and you can train them to do very complex things.

Pet parrots are FAR from wild, and pet parrots do not belong in the wild. It’s dangerous to say that, as there are already people who support releasing PET parrots into the wild. Pet parrots are FAR from wild, and pet parrots do not belong in the wild. It’s dangerous to say that, as there are already people who support releasing PET parrots into the wild. That’s deadly for the parrot and dangerous for the environment. Also, an animal being domesticated in reality means almost nothing. Wild animal behaviors still present themselves in dogs very plainly, and they’re the most domesticated animal on earth. The same goes with cats. Guinea pigs are also extremely domesticated, but naturally very frightened by humans, tend not to understand them well, and would rather not associate themselves with us. An animal being tame is really all that matters. That said, I do not support wild caught animals. Oh, and parrots are hundreds of species of birds, and some aren’t even closely related. Some don’t mimic humans (like cockatiels and lovebirds), so that reason is basically null.

Ok so you definitely don’t have a proper concept of “domestication” and “captive bred” so you decided to make an EXTREMELY uneducated comment to compensate for your lack of knowledge. Pigeons have gone through roughly 10,000 years of domestication(being selectively bred by humans for specific traits.) all domesticated and city pigeons you see are a product of thousands of years of human interference and selection. Parrots have only been in captivity for a couple hundred years with a recent shift of going from wild caught birds to captive bred parrots in the 70s(lots of formerly wild caught species like Moluccan and umbrella cockatoos were being successfully bred in captivity around that time for instance.) ALL domesticated animals went through this extensive process of being selectively breed for certain traits, hence why we refer to different types of DOMESTICATED animals as breeds. There are no breeds of any parrot species besides arguably the budgie but other than that all types of parrots are different species completely and genetically the same as how we first discovered them. Parrots ARE wild animals in the same way that a tiger in the zoo is still a wild animal. They are simply “CAPTIVE BRED” as in a non-domesticated species that is successfully bred in captivity. There are too many species of parrots to domesticate them all so they remain wild animals. Pigeons aren’t wild animals in the sense that you can’t find feral pigeons existing outside of human civilization. Much like feral cats they rely on humans because we created them. Dumping parrots and other captive bred animals is indeed cruel and shouldn’t be encouraged but but trying to defend parrots with more misinformation you are doing much more harm than good. Wild instincts never leave any animal but that doesn’t diminish the thousands of years of domestication that these animals went through. That’d be like saying that all humans are primitive just because we can naturally climb trees and swim without equipment. Dogs are predators so they will continue to show predatory instincts and Guinea pigs are prey animals who are much smaller than humans so that natural prey response will always be there. Domestication doesn’t mean becoming numb to fear or aggression and it certainly isn’t the same as “taming”. At the end of the day Parrots are all wild. But some have been born in captivity and should remain there

Short answer is no, you can just give them a bowl of seed. Long answer is when living outside as feral pigeons, it's their natural way to find food, kind of like a chicken pecking around. As safely kept pets either inside your house or in an aviary, you can spread seeds around a large pan with some hay over it so they can forage that way.

I personally just thi k its wrong to own parrots because they are WILD ANIMALS! They are not meant to live indoors with people as pets. As you said, pigeons are domesticated, they essentially depend on humans but parrots.... the pet trade alone is bringing many species to extinction! There is just no justification for owning a parrot idc how well you think you treat it or how you perceive its happiness because, usually people are totally clueless to their animals state of being. They personify pets to such extremes that detriment the animals lives... its so sad to me.

Hi There is a dove or pigeon( i dont know which) in the local pet store. I think they are abused. They are not babies. They look fully grown or mid size. Can i get 1 as pet? Do adult pigeons make good pets?
@MyPetPigeon1
3 жыл бұрын
Yes adult pigeons make good pets. But before you buy it you should find out where it came from and why it's there. You don't want to buy one that just gets replaced at the store with another one, because this supports the unethical pigeon breeders who just do it for money.

@@MyPetPigeon1 ok. It looks like it was either stolen from somewhere or sold to the seller through some illegal means. Actually i really want a pigeon and there are not many other places to buy one where i live.. just this one.. the pigeons look depressed, scared and i dont know if they are male or female. I prefer baby pigeons but don't think i can get a baby pigeon here. Should i just get this one? And also is it better to get a pair rather than just 1?

Hello my pet pigeon You are welcome. Parrots and eagles are better than pigeon because If I talk about eagles so Eagles are larger than pigeon Eagles fly high not pigeons Eagles can easily hunt pigeons All amazing about parrots Parrots talk better than pigeon Although they can't fly high They can be trained to not bite, not scream, not chewing. i had buggies as a kid and they are good beginner parrots. yes a pigeon has a very good intelligences... and just like parrots they are looking for a mate. pet birds see us as mates that they demand us to be around....soo no theres no sutch thing as not haveing your bird around you.... birds are very social .... this is what would make a conure or cockatiel or buggies....they would make it great with someone like me/and other people who have no friends and a lot of time on hand. now if your always on the move you can involve your birds on outings too..... have a job? not a problem.....((unless))..... you have a job that takes away your time from being at home from day to night....then you would have a problem .or have a famly member look after the bird. .......or you would have to consider rehoming if worst case now having never had a pigion im pretty shure they are just as enjoyable..... the sad thing is they dont live very long... the ability to copy your talking is the funny part of haveing a parrot.... but for some people i guss it could be too much for them. just dont.... TRY not to make your bird have a potty mouth.........because they get the enjoyment of seeing your reactions......and its like giveing them a treat....because they will want more and cuss out your visitors as well...... imagine your bird calling your friendly police officer the F word think of it as a real Naughty child...because they are more human then bird LOL.

Budgies are cheap did you forget that? . Pigeon cannot be better than Parrot. Parrot such as macaw can Talk , Pigeons can't. . We don't bite that hard.
