It’s problematic when people, who don’t understand basic human anatomy and how it works, decide abortion access.

A man called his senator and requested that they talk about his blood pressure. Senator said he wasn't a doctor, he should see his GP. Man said then why are you giving my wife and daughters medical advice.

The general public lacking general scientific literacy, especially in reproductive health, elect representatives who often also lack general scientific literacy who cut funding for science education & sex-ed classes in public K-12 schools, and the cycle continues.

Mama Dr Jones, Im following the current cases in Texas. We are all so disillusioned! Why did this grieving mother have to go to court to access medical care? What the fuck is going on? We need your words of wisdom and encouragement back here in the states!

Not only that but a doctor who tries to help her can go to prison for life in TX.

I can answer the question posed by the title on even a more basic level: Because they outright walked out and REFUSED TO EVEN LISTEN when assault/abuse survivors stood up to testify and expose their pain. It's not even worth saying it's a gray area when they just pretend reality doesn't exist. Louisiana legislator: give them a round of sarcastic applause

All I can think of with things like this is my coworker whose son had a fatal heart anomaly that the doctors offered to delivery their baby at 8 months so mom and dad had a chance to hold their baby before he died. If they waited until she went into labor naturally the baby would probably not still been alive. I wonder if that would not have been offered if it happened now in a state with these strict anti abortion laws because they knew they were not going to provide any care of the baby. The baby died in his mom's arms within an hour, no matter what they did he would not have lived much longer.

I understand why they didnt want to implement an intelligence test to presidential candidates(it would be too easy to exclude people) but they should at least take a lesson once they become president to at least know the basic anatomy, seriously, they dont let anyone be a lawyer/ dr i dont understand why president cant have more oversight.

Thanks so much for this video. I also recommend that people watch the Gray’s Anatomy show’s from last year, they broached this topic and some of the tragic consequences of not having legal abortions available.

Have you talked about Kate Cox and Brittany Watts? I don't want to raise your blood pressure too much because they are infuriating but I always appreciate your take and awareness.

Politicians can be involved, doctors and medical practitioners are governed by all sorts of laws. The reason is doctors aren’t ethicists. Politicians are supposed to protect people and protect the good of society so why shouldn’t we protect unborn people? (And by the way it’s not really the politicians who decide it’s the people who vote for them as we live in a democracy)

Abortion access is righly a legal-political matter. Medical-scientific practice plays a role in delivering or not abortions to the women that need or ask for them. But the right to an abortion is decided politically. Its implemented legally. And laws are necessarily general. But qualifications are possibe. Look at Amaica's ultra complex tax code. That some politicians make choices based on myth, superstition, race hatred, misogynist ideation, etc., that they ignore science when it suits them, thess facts point to the need for more politics, for a political project meant to counter the politicians who oppose a certain practice, such as abortion. Had Democrats stood their ground instead of appeasing and ultimately capitulating to McConnell, he would not have had the opportunity to stack the Supreme Court with lying knuckledraggers who undermined Row v. Wade. But, they didn't do that because they are corrupt cowards, persons without principles, who only value money and power. Both the far right and the neoliberal right (the DP is a center-right party) failed women. But, that's what they do -- fail their constituents. And, it's not as though the biomedical sciences have clean hands. Look at the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. There we saw scientists collaborating with pharmaceutical firms to push a new and untested technology on millions. In the US and elsewhere, this debacle has broken the trust of many who believed the scientists.

I quite like how abortion is handled in Germany (other than the fact, that it is handled in the criminal code): up to 12/14 weeks you can have an information talk, some time to think about it and then get an abortion. After that you can’t decide by yourself, but only with your doctor on the basis of medical necessity (life of mother in danger, child wouldn’t survive for some reason, etc.). Aldo doctors in Germany are also not allowed to tell you the sex of the child before it is too late to get a „choice abortion“, because a few too many people in the history of this planet have decided to abort because of the sex…

Abortion should absolutely not be a political matter. Nobody should have the right to decide what a woman does with her body except that woman. It is no one else's business.

@@rachelmarkham6286 The creation and installation of a right is a political matter unless the right is a logical consequence of a prior right that was implemented by a court. That prior right was directly or indirectly created by a constitutional politics. If anyone wants to have abortion rights, they need to fight for that right, they need to directly or indirectly practice a constitutional politics. That's where pro-abortion advocates stand right now. They need to fight for that right.
