@@minervamclitchie3667 They were never treated as such. It could be a long debate, but isabel took her decission on the grounds of political reasons. I've studied carefully all this period. At some point, it was decided that the stability of the Kingdom needed religious uniformity. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of jews decided to stay in spain, as (new) christians . Many of the greatest names of the golden spanish ages have jewish roots, including as well, curiously, most inquisitors, such as torqumada or talavera., besides musicians, doctors, lawers, writers and poets (gongora and probably cervantes as well for instance). On the other hand, jews can not be prosecuted by the inquisicion, just the new christians that could be accused of judaizantes, that is, , remain practising judaism in the hide Of course, to my mind i still think that this was her only big political and human mistake, because in the long run spain was deprived of thousands of skilled and talented people., who did not deserve to be expelled. And some procedures were implemented later on to make them come back.. but de should not forget it is the XV we are talking about.

@@Javier-f9d many Jews left Spain and went to either North Africa or The Ottoman Empire. In fact Spain began to decline, with France, The Netherlands and Britain becoming the more dominant Empires, and North Africa and The Ottoman Empire becoming more prominent. Indigenous Mexicans I know are not found of her. It wasn't until 1898 that Jews could return to Iberia. Although it must be said that many Basques hid Jews out from the Inquestion to WWII.

I also love the names of Spanish regions and cities! Many of them have roots in the Roman empire. For example Saragossa used to be called Caesar Augusta and Pamplona was Pompaelo in honor of the general Pompey.

Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain were the parents of Katherine, the first wife of Henry the 8th. They also were the ones who financed Christopher Columbus on his voyage to the Americas in 1492.

Thank you for your comment. I did not delve into all the details of Isabella's personal family life because considering all the things that happened, I did not regard it as essential to the story. My focus is mostly on her accomplishments as queen. I didn't want to video to go over 15min. I might do a video on Juana "la Beltraneja" later.

I have mixed emotions about this. Isabella was definitely a strong woman - a Spanish Katherine the Great. Far as I'm concerned she went a bit too far with ye olde inquizish!!!! What we call Columbus Day they call Dia de la Hispanadad in Spain - the good old days when Spain was a world power. Inquisitors avoided Catalonia like the plague. Those ventured there got their clocks cleaned.

@@brewcity2317 there is no equivalency in that remark, which is also ignorant and antisemitic. I dislike Queen Isabella, her husband Ferdinand and the Spanish Inquisition because of what they did to my Jewish ancestors, the Moors who were Muslim, and to indigenous people of the America's and also for the slave trade. At no time have I hated all Spanish people, either in the past or present. In my opinion royalty never represents all the people of a nation. Isabella never cared about the poor. The other part is so stupid. I have always supported Palestinian rights, have lived here in The Bronx with Palestinian neighbors and across from me a Jewish woman is married to a Palestinian man.

Why is it I live in black inner-city hood, low income blacks, and there is no impoverished neighborhood of your people in Milwaukee, yet you claim to be me, like billionaire Oprah does, and claim I'm YOU the one with all the power?
