The whole point is that if we have the 10 commandments at school than we would have to let Muslims kids pray, Buddahist meditations, and what other kind of religious prayer that are out there. So the compromise is to have no prayer on school grounds because it’s a place for formal learning not religious learning.
@Livin4Jesus00

There's a difference between having the ten commandments as a monument in school and letting kids pray in public while in school. The latter is a right but the former goes against the establishment clause. Jews, Muslims, Christians, etc. can pray on their own or with whomever wants to while in school but should not set up monuments or statues, etc.

The biggest problem I see is that Protestants would start thinking that theirs is the only religion that matters. Their commandments are the only commandments we should pay attention to. The heck with Muslims, Buddhists, and other non-Christian religions. Well, that’s just a bunch of baloney. People almost always have their religious faith based on what their parents had. it’s a matter of geography and ancestry. that simple.

Not at all. What's reported here is historically accurate. People who think that the first amendment means government must not have anything to do with religion are misguided. If you take the time to read the 1st amendment carefully, it says this: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . . " Congress shall not ESTABLISH a religion. Specifically, what they meant was that the federal government shouldn't make any Christian demomination into the national church, like what happened with the Catholic Church, with the Edict of Thessalonica, or the Church of England, under King Henry VIII. Under the Edict of Thessalonica, Arian Christians were persecuted by Nicene Christians. Under Henry the VIII there were persecutions of other denominations, specifically Protestants and Catholics. This seems to tend to happen when a denomination becomes the official state church. Likewise with the 'prohibiting the free exercise thereof.' In the context of the times, it never meant freedom from religion. Mostly it meant freedom to in a Christian denomination of your choosing, whether it was Catholic, or one or another flavor of Protestantism. Even ignoring the historical context, freedom of religion could also mean freedom to be religious.

@@justcallmebookworm7543 the very same freedom that allows you to choose any religion you want also allows you to choose no religion at all. This is just semantics, separation of church from state, and separation of state from church are the exact same thing. Any governmental institution (such as schools) that run on taxpayer money shouldn't teach religion at all (unless it's religious studies or something which is a study, not worship of any 1 particular religion). Private schools and religion have the right to do whatever they want including the imposition of particular religion on it's constituents (who engage voluntarily).

Religion needs to be completely separate from the business of government. That’s the only way to allow religion to flourish in its own way. I can guarantee you that non Catholics would not be happy to find that a teacher started each day in school with a “Saint Mary“ prayer. And that it’s just a simple example of what can go wrong.

It was Roger Williams, The Founder of Rhode Island & founder of The 1st Baptist Church that came out with The Separation of Church & State that transcended down into our 1st Amendment through Thomas Jefferson in Danbury, CT (Library of Congress) between Baptists & Thomas Jefferson. Roger Williams was also a Puritan that came to America in 1630 which was 10 years after Puritans crossed over on The Mayflower in 1620. Of course, The First British Colony was established in Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. Puritans on The Mayflower were also called, "Separatists" after The Reformation of Denominations. (Reformation / Britannica). Baptists, Puritans, Lutherans, Ana-Baptists, Amish, along with many other church denominations falls under Protestantism. (Protestantism / Britannica). Britannica mentions that Protestants were against The Church of England, but they fail to mention that Protestants were also against The Roman Catholic Church. The founding of The Church of England and Protestantism was by King Henry The VIII. Protestants eventually turned against The Church of England which was without a Pope (otherwise known as a Bishop). Martin Luther (Encyclopedia) who formed Lutheranism was a Protestant whom was the first person to translate The New Testament into German. William Tyndale (Encyclopedia) was also a Protestant Leader whom was the first to translate The New Testament into English. The Bishop didn't like that very much, and eventually William was burned at The Stake in England just like Edward Wightman whom was labeled as an Ana-Baptist. Reverend George Wightman (a Deacon & my direct ancestor) and Reverend Valentine Wightman who married Susannah Holmes, the great grand daughter of Roger Williams (Encyclopedia 1636) were both descendants of Edward Wightman, the last man burned at the stake in England by King James for heresy. Roger Williams came out with The Separation of Church & State to grant not only to grant "Religious Freedom" but so that it would prevent a person from becoming persecuted for their religious freedom of speech on their beliefs. It was also to prevent governing powers from influencing scripture like England had done in the past for their own benefit. Of course, some question if Constantine The Great, a Pagan Roman Emperor who founded The Roman Catholic Church had either set out to help usher in The Rise of Christianity or to infiltrate The Rise of Christianity for Rome's Benefit. Of course, before Constantine The Great, Christians were persecuted by Rome, and Rome did destroy The 2nd Temple in 70 C.E. Also, Constantine The Great had refused to become baptised up until before his death bed. The New Testament was written by over 20 Jewish Scholars, and it wasn't published until 367 C.E. As for what The Apostles or Apistles wrote, many claim that they were destroyed in The 2nd Temple, because all that exists today are mere copies. Same with The Dead Sea Scrolls. Britannica mentions that Capital Punishment came to America due to Edward Wightman burned at the stake in England by King James under Britannica's article "burned at the stake." However, Capital Punishment was a British thing. Not a Protestant thing.

"The Apostles or Apistles" "Apistles" is not a word. The word "epistles" (with an E) means letters, and refers to some of the books written by Paul that are in the New Testament, some of those books were actually letters.
