Hi Jose, We love your content! We moved here to escape the COVID lockdowns and now live in a quiet, peaceful beach fishing community in the countryside. While it sounds idyllic, to be honest, transitioning here in our 40s after growing up in a more fast-paced, Starbucks-driven environment has been challenging. Facts! You make a great point! Many who move back quickly find out that the reason they can't make it in Mexico is because of their expensive tastes that can only be afforded here in Mexico by paying as you go. Most Americans would prefer to live in the USA where they can just charge away everything and not worry about actually paying anything and just accruing debt until eventually they go bankrupt and do it all over again. In Mexico in order to live that lifestyle they have to pay for it out of pocket, not by charging it to their Capital One Card 😅 Thank you so much for sharing!

@@JoseArteagaTravels Great points! However, I think it's important to recognize that not all of us leave the USA seeking the 'Mexican dream' or to take advantage of a lower cost of living. Some of us, like myself, left out of necessity. In my case, it was the COVID-19 lockdowns that pushed me to move. Working remotely gave me the freedom to relocate, and Mexico offered an escape from the restrictions and stress that came with the pandemic in the U.S. While it's true that life can be more 0:02 affordable here, for some, it's more about creating a different kind of life not necessarily one driven by convenience of lower costs, but out of a need for change and a shift in perspective. I do agree that adapting to living within our means, especially in a place like Mexico where debt isn't easily piled on, is a lesson that can be beneficial for anyone, regardless of where you come from.

If you have complex health problems, the US is cheaper than México. You cannot get health insurance here, unlike in the states. Even the Mexican government excludes an array of chronic and inflammatory conditions from IMSS. I spend well over $1000 a month on healthcare costs- Doc visits and meds. My rheumatologist now wants to put me on a medication that is $2000, $3000 a month. I could pay insurance premiums AND deduct from my business expenses, AND get my med covered at nothing with a copay card. Not to mention that mediocre gyms in Mexico City run you 100+ bucks a month. Mexico is NOT always cheaper than the US.

Here in Costa Rica where we live the Locals are beautiful and loving people and they don't like conflict or confrontational people. I have heard the same stories from all over the world. I think that as the US continues to decline and we see more Americans leaving we will see more of this. Also as the US loses power and influence and they continue to do not so good things, more countries around the world will just start pushing back even harder, knowing fully well they don't need to take this kind of treatment anymore. The two things that resonate with me is 1/ The rawness of life in non-western society and 2/ the food situation that has become so processed in western countries. In many traditional cultures they mostly eat fresh food. In the west we must have convenience so the food is processed and that causes health issues. To eat fresh food you must shop often and local.

It fascinates me that a lot of KZitemrs complain about failing in Mexico but they never even made an attempt to speak Spanish and genuinely make friends other than expats LOL. I’m now close to retirement and can’t wait to live there. Mexican culture has been fascinating to me and I always am welcomed when I am in the country because I embrace it. Mexico definitely has improved since the 1990s due to benefitting from outsourcing from other countries. There are parts of CMX that look like NYC’s Upper West Side, a wealthy area, parts of Queretaro, Guadalajara look like Beverly Hills CA to me. Yet it is not for everyone, especially for newbies that think they can live cheaper than the US. There’s a lot of Americans that can’t make it there due to their entitlement attitude. Most of them think all of Mexico is just Tex-mex food and tacos, they don’t even know that Mayan food in Merida is different from food in say, Jalisco.

I've studied expats living in Ecuador. New passport Americans are children who expect Ecuador to bend to their will. It's Ecuador, dude. They don't speak Spanish and find it hard to accept Ecuador for what it is. But others move back who misjudged the disruption to family relationships or didn't realize how they would miss the little things. Those who stay appreciate the country for what it is, focusing on the magic rather than the thorns. They learn the language and end up with Ecuadorian friends. They get in rhythm with the culture as they meet it where it is and don't expect it to be something it isn't. And they build anchors that keep them in country like a wife, girlfriend, or other interests available only in country.

Im from a Central American country, and have some new neighbors (Americans) who behave as if they own the place. They moved to the mountains without doing their due diligence about how to get water and electricity to their property. Because of their bullying behavior no one likes them. They went through some properties while the owners were not there and destroyed the trees, open big holes and damaged the fences, all because they needed to run some PVC pipes to their home for water. On top of that they told me that my land was not mine because they had a need.

Americans - whether native born or immigrants - are like terriers; they're hard wired to be busy I know I go crazy after a week in paradise and need to get back to big block stores and homeless everywhere Now, here's the kicker: I employ different tradesmen - all of whom were illegals 20 years ago - and each of them have the same type of restless energy levels They've purchase property in their original towns and even visit ( they all have green cards), but they're committed to their successful businesses and families in the USA And of course they're very proud that their kids are native born, thus the cycle continues

Good channel and practical topics Juan. The irony is that many Canadians and Americans don't like it when immigrants come and don't try to assimilate or learn english. Mexicans, Colombians, etc are no different, and understandably so. The other comment I will make is that there are a lot of comments that generalize when speaking about "European Americans or Canadians". There are many who love the Mexican culture and make efforts to learn the language and assimilate.....the comments are somewhat hypocritical. Either way, keep up the good work. Me gusta tu canal y las temas y planeo continuar viendo.

Believe or not many Americans prefer the cold weather. If not winter or cold weather Americans lenjoy all 4 seasons! Mexico is nearer to the Ecuador and it is obviously Hotter than The United States.

Mexico also has all 4 seasons in many areas. Mexico is a huge country like the USA. In the USA there are places like Florida that are like the Yucatan in Mexico. The SW desert of the US is the same Desert thats in the North of Mexico and in the middle of the country where most people live it is high up in the mountains. People who prefer cooler climates usually stick to these areas. Hope this helps shed more light onto Mexico!

I do not have any actual stats. This is all from first hand experience after being in Mexico over 6 years and seeing how many people come and go. Not everybody stays. Some move to another country or another part of Mexico, but many move back to the USA or Canada. They come to Mexico looking for Freedom and a More affordable cost of living and quickly realize they dont like so much Freedom and would prefer to forgo any savings from living affordably to simply remain as comfortable as possible. Obviously there is more to it than just this comment and the video, but that is the gist of it. There are many others who move back to the USA reluctantly. They just do so simply because they have to. Perhaps taking care of a family member or having to deal with other stuff.

I seriusly doubt it. Have you been to Down Town LA; Las Vegas, NV, or Denver, Colorado lately? If not, I exhort you to do so. This way, you will see people living in the streets in tents in LA, in the sewer systems in Las Vegas, NV and in their cars in Denver, Colorado so that those people wouldn't freeze during the winter. It happens too in NYC where peope live in the sewer system and in their cars. Thus, I very seriously doubt what you're saying. Case in point, come to Mrxico City, Colonia Roma. In it, you will find people speaking in their native language, English. On the orher hand, real estate prices are hyperinflated and hardly anyone meet the debt to income ratio of 28% front end ratio and 36% back en ratio. There are othe socieconomico issues that I wouldn't mention here because for it, I would have to write a book. Como decimos en la CDMX, llamale al pan pan y al vino vino. Feliz dia y no digas algo que no es. Te invito a ir a la Wall St and 5th St. In DTLA, for you to see the current economic reality that many US citizens are living in LA and in the USA for that matter. I have seen it and it's not here say.

You consistently confuse me. I'm not considering moving to MX for a less expensive lifestyle. I know that "different" means just that, not "better" or "worse" and that most people think that where they are is the best place to be. I'm looking for a sense of community. I got it in my head that people who relocate there have a relatively high probability of not having family anywhere, of not having roots, and are looking for that. But I'm 76 and this video makes me feel more like I'd be a mark than find my "clan".
@JoseArteagaTravels

My apologies for any confusion. Not all of my videos are the same. I address everything you mentioned in other videos. One of the main reasons I love Mexico so much is the sense of community. You can mingle and assimilate with the locals or stay within the expat enclaves. It is up to the individual. I know that everyone moves to Mexico for different reasons. I am just trying to highlight that moving to Mexico for the wrong reasons might have people moving back home. Even if you move for the right reasons one might not like a certain area and might want to move to another. The point is that Mexico is a completely different country and even though you and I might know this, not everyone in the audience is fully aware that. Thanks again for sharing and my apologies for any confusion.

@@JoseArteagaTravels Está bien, I've watched many of your videos, and seen a variety of your interviews. I've seen people who somehow can't seem to manage a "Buenas tardes" or even "Hola", I've seen people who appeared to be comfortable, and others who didn't. I grew up in the 50s in Brooklyn where most day-to-day purchases could be obtained without even crossing a street, so I like the idea of walking to buy food regularly. My parents slept in the living room, my brother (who was 10 years my senior) and I shared the bedroom until I was 18. I married at 20, divorced at 36, and worked hard to secure my future. I was lonely in my marriage, not lonely although alone for many years. I have nothing in common with the pampered women I meet now. I understand them, they have no understanding of me. I don't want to live among the entitled, but I don't belong at the other end of the scale. There isn't much in the middle in the USA, is there in MX? I know how important family is there, what about those of us who don't have any? None. Nada. I never had much, they've all been gone for decades. Gracias.

Like leaving Philadelphia and moving to Merida might be too much to handle. The cities are different sizes, different countries, different weather and so many other factors. Many people who live great out here come from more rural parts of the USA, same goes as those who prefer a Mexico City, they probably just came from another big city. @JoseArteagaTravels Not at all. Is just like we say in México. Let's face the facts. The facts tell us that a lot of US citizens live throughout México and you see it every day. I'm Mexican and very proud of it. On the other hand, and besides the natural disasters that you lived through in FL, the state of the economy in the USA is bad. Tge d FED has printed too much money that it has been debased, and you see it every day you go yo shop for groceries. People can hardly make a living, and that's why they are leaving their homeland. No te preocupes, no hard feelings. There are some Mexicans who have already gotten a sour taste in their mouths from so many Americans behaving badly, Gentrification, and many other factors that has decreased their quality of life. So they have found ways to express their dislike for these few bad apple expats who have now given all expats/Americans a bad name out here. Such as by protesting, graffiti, & other means. This is only a small minority of Mexicans who are not happy with all these entitled expats but if there are more and more stories of Americans behaving badly in Mexico then you can expect that small minority to grow much bigger.....

The subtle hatred in Americans toward Mexicans that you referred to in your other comment goes both ways. Not all Mexicans want to share their country with "newcomers." Depending on how often you're moved to a new city or town in the country you live in, frequently, the locals aren't so keen on newcomers, either, even within the same country. Part of human nature, I guess.
