Honestly, I like the silence. It feels more like a "choose your own adventure" one than its successors. I don't like having to listen to the same lines over and over again. It's part of what made the final boss fight more irritating. Sitting through Daphne's lines a dozen times. I also liked the checkpoint system better in DL. Its sequel and Space Ace, while fun, had scenes that stretched on for what felt like an eternity. One slip up and you're going through a long sequence again. The rooms in Dragon's Lair were nice little bite sized challenges which didn't overstay their welcome. Well, aside from having to do some of the dungeon areas in reverse. I still like Space Ace, and I enjoy the energize mechanic, but I still prefer way Dragon's Lair was designed. It felt like a masterclass of QTE games, the gold standard. Not sitting through long storylines, but having to pass a series of tough but short sequences, and just solving them in solitude. It seemed like Bluth struck gold with that one. There's a reason why we all still talk about it to this day and largely ignore all the others. I played the other ones, but it just didn't give me that same sense of excitement.

Same. I feel like Space Ace is a hyperactive kid with extra sugar and caffeine. It just refuses to chill.

@@davidsenra2495 Yeah, whereas Dragon's Lair felt like a cool roguelike. It kind of reminded me of Zelda, in a way.

I love Space Ace's climax and music, and I agree with that Superman feel from time to time, but at the end of the day, I've got to give max love to Dragon's Lair. Wandering through the quiet castle makes it more spooky, more real-to-life, and even your death more impactful as you die and join the silence of the castle as a corpse. And Dragon's Lair's attraction sequence is just so much better than hearing you're out to stop someone named Borf. God, if I was named Borf, I'd stop myself! Heh. And hey, Daphne may be an air head, but, by Dragon's Lair 2, it's clear who's getting more action in the bedroom: Dirk. Whereas poor Ace, he got his first kid and it was an adoption. No action for him. Heck he can't even get Kimmie to go out for dinner while saving her. And Kimmie still doesn't respect Ace enough to call him Ace, where Dirk gets called a hero on a regular basis. If you want to play a game where you see a man get belittled and treated like an infant, play Space Ace. If you want to feel like a hero and save a lady who makes you really feel like one in the sequel, play Dragon's Lair. The only real nitpick I have about dragon's lair is it doesn't end with a kiss, something Dragon's Lair 2 makes up for in spades. Anyway, that was fun! Nice video. Subscribed.

Man, I just relived my first time I came across Dragons Lair, I was and still in love with both games. It took a dollar to play, the vendor wasn't dumb, and wow, it was incredible! Space Ace was too! There were NO games like it. And none more difficult to play. Then Mortal Kombat came and told all games to "Hold My Beer!"

And honestly, Daphne is just a mean's to an end. A reason for the hero to go on a grand adventure. She has such little screen time that it's hard to even care about who she is. You largely just play as Dirk. If we're talking about Dragon's Lair 2, you have a point, as she seems like a pointless addition to the story. In 1, she's just an excuse, a goal for the MC. Maybe that sounds sexist to some, but that was the main reason why characters like Peach were made. And please, don't anyone come in here moan about "character agency" because fictional characters don't have them. If they did, Dirk would probably just say "screw this, I'm going home". You're not exactly removing anything that even existed in the first place.

2:29 Not a very accurate cabinet for Dragon's Lair. I think I like Space Ace more too, but it was because of Dragon's Lair that got me interested in the first place, so that's why Dragon's Lair is so special. I don't think Space Ace has hidden items for extra lives or that Dragons Lair has a way of winning unlimited lives. You might be able to set the game programming to give you unlimited rights. Dragon's Lair 2 you have to collect random objects in order to finish the game.
