The mid solve parity algorithm is significantly shorter, parity isn't nearly as common as it is on big cube, and there is things you can do to avoid it altogether. That said, if all fails and you get stuck with it at the end, it REALLY punishes you lol. I just finally started learning Square 1 yesterday and my god it's a learning curve coming from 3x3, and I'm sub 25 with full PLL and OLL...

@@sergeantslowpoke1550 I don’t think so parity: 1) the state or condition of being equal, especially as regards status or pay. 2) MATHEMATICS (of a number) the fact of being even or odd.
@sergeantslowpoke1550
2 жыл бұрын
@@Joker-em6oz it's called parity. Idk much about square 1 but parity is very common in for example 4x4 once you get to 3x3 stage and you get a position which is impossible on a 3x3 (one pair of the edges flipped). See: kzitem.info/news/bejne/r22Mt6duoHeZaGk
@abjoern
2 жыл бұрын
@@Joker-em6oz in the context puzzles modeled as permutation groups (such as Rubik's cubes, 15-puzzles, etc.), the parity describes whether the amount of 2-piece swaps required to solve it is even or odd. On a normal 3x3, ever move swaps 3 corners and 3 edges, which adds up to 6 (even). The same is true for square-1, a move swaps 2 sets of corners and 2 sets of edges, so 4 total, which is even). In this case, only two pieces need to be swapped, which is one swap (odd). This is because the cube was previously in a state where one move didn't necessarily cause an even amount of swaps, but once you get the cube to be cube-shaped again, you you assume you've reduced it to a group in which you'll only need the normal even parity move described earlier. However, it is very difficult to easily tell if you've actually reduced it correctly or if you in fact need an odd number of moves to solve it (which is what happened in the video). To fix it, you do a bunch of set-up moves that lets you get to a state where you can do an odd number of swaps, and then do a bunch more moves to get back to the reduced state, this time with the correct parity. Sorry for the wall of text but I hope it makes sense now why it's called parity
