Why #Start_capacitor and #Run_capacitor is required only for #Single_phase_Induction_motor ?
Why 3 phase Induction motor does not need a capacitor for its starting ?
Single phase induction motor is not a self-starting motor and is a #capacitor_start_induction_motor.
It is also called #capacitor_start_capacitor_run_motor, because capacitors are involved here for its operation.
Generally, a rotor of a motor begins to rotate, with the torque provided by its conductors, when cut by the #rotating_magnetic_field created by its field windings.
#3_phase_induction_motor of course is capable of generating a rotating magnetic field on its own, since its three individual phases are moving with 120 degree angle difference with each phase.
For a #single_phase_motor, you have to initially supply an additional phase with a different phase angle, to create the rotating magnetic field for your rotor to start turning.
This additional phase is created with the help of start capacitor and the #auxiliary_winding on #single_phase_motor.
Behavior of the #capacitor_current with its phase angle, is explained here well with fine animation work.
