Stock exhausts have been getting quieter and quieter and quieter. Why? Euro3, Euro4, Euro5, Euro6..... More catalyst, more cost, more R&D, more throttle restrictions, more sound deadening, more weight, more more more. Flat sick of it.

What I don't understand is that the wind noise at 75mph+ is far in excess of any engine noise I can hear. There is a good argument to wear plugs anyway. Maybe you're not on the highway commute like I am, but I have a hard time imagining the engine would ever be loud enough to out do the wind noise. Is the Yoshi with the sound insert kit really that loud?

The wind noise over 75 is probably louder than the yoshi, but the yoshi adds another layer of piercing sound to the mix. Too much for my ears anyway, might not bother other folks 🤷♂️

I wear ear plug 95% of time and I believe they essential if you dont want to be deaf. but I cannot hear any exhaust sound from the factory exhaust if I rider faster than 50 miles. I think it is a little bit too quite.

Nothing wrong with stock! Need more power, buy a different bike. Be the gray man! Be the sigma male! They never hear ya coming. Curious, has any one tried painting the stock can with high heat flat black paint?

Totally agree. Had an aftermarket exhaust on my MT-09 and it was cool to begin with, but after a while I found it very uncomfortable to ride without ear protection, and that was just around town where you are not going fast at all!

I'm confused as to how you have those issues with ear plugs.... My experience thus far with this motorcycle is that the wind noise is unbearable, nothing to do with exhaust...

The use of a quality helmet like Shoei which helps incredibly with wind noise and of one the best brands. The “cool” looking helmets are just that sometimes, cool. I use an RF1200 now and ride an mt09 with the dominatoR exhaust which is really loud, and the exhaust does not bother me. Maybe my hearing isn’t top tier anymore but I don’t understand

Wind noise was more painful than exhaust noise for me. I always wore triple flange earplugs and that made riding comfortable

The wind noise is significant, particularly on the highway.

Honestly could have just gotten a flash tune to fix the afr. Mail your ecu get it back same week ez cheap hp gains. Weird that youre saying its loud because i can still hear so much intake noise but sound in video will always be different. I think the stock exhaust sounds good i just want more sound at idle. I may regret it as well cant say. Also wind noise from helmet is loud enough to cause hearing loss over time so you should be wearing hearing protection anytime youre going hw speeds.

Did you have the yoshi baffle in it. Shame. Stock is tame. Thou as ive said to people it sounds very good. I dumped it and got a kelpie and yeah my ears ring with baffle in. Might have to wear plugs and short rides enjoy that triple. Ive got my stock put away just in case. Great video man.

Thanks for tuning in! I did have the baffle in the yoshi and it was still too loud, for me at least. The triple really does sound great with an exhaust though 🤷♂️…as far as earplugs go, I’ve found Decibullz to be the best solution so far. Folks have also recommended air pod pros with the noise canceling feature.

Was there no way to simply reduce the loudness of the yoshi instead of having to fully replace it? I love the different type of sound the yoshi gives, but I'm not that interested in it being louder. I just want it to sound different.

There’s probably a way to reduce the sound with a custom baffle or something like that, but nothing that I found off the shelf 🤷♂️

Yes, Yoshimura actually sells not one, but three levels of inserts for this exhaust. Two are sound inserts lowering the volume only to different levels, and the third is a spark arrestor which is is designed to prevent the emission of flammable debris and lowers the noise level more than the other two. This exhaust ships without any inserts.

The problem is the stock exhaust just does not come close to out performing the after market exhaust systems.
