Have you tried the new Freewell X100 CPL / GMIST / Hood Combo? Tell me about it. Did you go another direction? Tell me about that as well.

Hey Kevin thanks for doing this review the reason our lens hood (or any other lens hood on the market) cannot stay in a fixed position is because the hood is square while the thread on the bottom is round. After you screw it on, the position won't naturally be level; you'll need to adjust it a bit to get it properly aligned. If you check other brands on the market, you'll see that their lens hoods also require adjustment after being screwed on, since the bottom thread is round, and each time you mount it, the position may vary slightly; So the main issue our hood solves here is allowing you to even adjust the CPL that no other hood does this well.

Do you think making a version of this product with a circular hood would satisfy a solution where there's nothing to level, because it's a perfect circle? Wouldn't that eliminate any variation whatsoever and create a situation where the end user could tighten the product snug, attach the lens cap and not have to worry about it moving or being level? It's a cool product regardless.

I love the idea and the product. It would be a perfect fit for the leica q3 and sony rx1r II. Do you think to do a version for this two cameras. For the Leica Q3 you could take advantage of the 62mm filter-treat for the lens hood so one could mount a bigger filter size like 52 to avoid vignetting when using vario ND which is also very usefull filter for video and long exposure panorama...ideally one could attached on it your square filter set kit.

They sent me one last week by & I’ve just sent them an email telling them I think it’s faulty because the hood didn’t line up!😂 after seeing your review maybe it’s not faulty haha I don’t think they’ll like my review haha! It can’t be that hard to either build in a locking & unlocking feature to the hood so you can lock it in the level position or how about just engineer the thread & hood to line up where it needs to be! Imagine having glasses that you had to level up every time you put them on haha! That would be so annoying!

If they just made the lens hood circular instead of square it would always be “lined up” when it’s tightened down.

@@KevinDeal correct!! I don’t understand how this made it out of prototype! Surely someone said.. hey that might be annoying & stop people from buying! Haha also.. never ever had a lens hood not line up perfectly. They all even circular ones that have cuts in them (like telephotos or the likes) all have a clicking mechanism to line up perfectly!

It has to be leveled every time. It will not tighten straight. Thank!

@@RonDavis-b5s I agree. On my 18mm f2 the standard lens hood Fuji provides with it is straight, so i know it's possible to do.
