My Stone V7 is a joy to ride; the most enjoyable bike for the backroad riding I do, that I have ever owned in 55 years of riding. Great handling, torque and no more sore knees from chain maintenance and a truly comfortable seat. I like the functionality of the LCD; it makes accurate monitoring and regulating my speed far easier than analog gauges. This greatly reduces the riding stress in the enforcement environment I have to deal with. I was initially put off by the lack of a gas gauge until I noticed that the bike automatically counts down the klicks from when the 4 litre light comes on. That's really helpful, so now I don't miss the gas gauge. It's all about making the best of a truly excellent motorcycle and being happy while I still can.

Guzzi’s are IMHO slightly eccentric and that’s part of their charm, bit like Citroens from the 1970’s. The offset digital dash just epitomizes that, doesn’t bother me in the least.

I completely agree with you - I like twin clocks on the Special but I think overall the V7 Special Edition is the best looking of the V7's and I'd put up with the single clock for that. I also prefer the alloy wheels and the "black look" of the bike.

I used to know someone who was a Guzzie fanatic a couple of decades back who owned 3 guzzies . One of them the California job & one of the others a Monza . He also owned three wheel Reliant Robin , which he used to collect parts , he had scoured the U.K. for , to keep them on the road . Never seen him without a pocket full of tools & oily rag , his bikes were like Italian ladies ,temperamental & required plenty of attention . He said no other bikes gave him the same satisfaction . 👍

There is more discussion around the speedo than anything else, I think the digital is ok as the bike is an evolution of the model, a very modern V7 not just a lookalike retro, its fuel injected with abs etc, I test rode the earlier 750 V7 & hated it & was almost put off when I saw the V7 850 but I did buy my V7 850 Stone without test ride & I absolutely enjoy every minute of riding it, almost on 7000 miles in just over a year & it is just a wonderful experience every time, it won’t be long before it will be impossible to buy such a bike, air cooled, shaft drive, all for a very reasonable cost, look at the price of most other makes of bikes, this is motorcycling in its purest form in my opinion, just buy one, fit a nice stylish flyscreen on the front & get your leg over & ride the thing, enjoyment is sure to follow …….

I just traded in a BMW R1200GS LC and an old Breva 750 for a brand new V7 Stone Ten. Totally love it...back to basics, simple motorcycle. The digital unit is no problem to me, has a very clear readout of speed and is fairly functional overall. I like to think of it as a gentle meld of new and old. The rest of the bike is completely analogue! 😊 The main thing, over the special, is the tubeless wheels. Inner tubes have a safety issue (nearly ended me with a blow out some years ago), it's an awful lot easier to plug a tubeless at the side of the road and spoked wheels (with cheap steel) rust like feck and are a bugger to clean. Alloy wheels, with tubeless tyres, are a major modern improvement for motorcycles....for me anyway. Any road up, have any of you folk got advice about reducing (or eliminating) the gearbox clack? I'm getting it right sometimes but I can't pin down what 'I'm doing right!😂

The nice factory windscreen makes the offset instrumentation less noticeable. Then, fitting a GPS/phone Quadlock to the right of centre on the handlebars, and you may actually come to like the way Guzzi built it. Plus, you will stay dry in the rain and know where you are. As one who only washes his bike once a year (whether it needs it or not) I prefer the black alloy wheels and black pipes. No chrome for this lazy owner!

I'm a little 'OCD' so I thought the offset speedo would irritate me but it really doesn't, plus I'm fine with the large digital mph readout too. I put a Dart flyscreen on mine which really suits the bike and makes sustained motorway speeds almost comfortable. I was nearly tempted by the Special but going back to inner tubes was a retro step too far for me. I had a front inner tube blow-out, at speed, in the late '70s, a character-building and pants-filling experience that I'd rather not repeat. 🙂

Having owned 3 Guzzis I think the feeling they give is a sort of snobbery because you have made an informed but unusual and not mainstream choice of bike to own. I couldn't take to my V7 Special [750] because it never felt like a 'proper' Guzzi to me after owning a 1100 Sport [tuned by Raceco and featured in Bike Magazine in the mid 90s] and in 2003 a V11 Scura. It never gave me the same feeling of relentless grunt but I'm sure the new 850 is a big improvement. If I hadn't owned the bigger Guzzis before I might well have felt differently about the 750 V7 Special Mk.4...

I have an '18 Guzzi V7iii Milano. Twin clocks always win out for me aesthetically over single dials, especially don't like offset ones. Bothers my OCD, I guess. Guzzi - if, by chance you're reading this, an accurate fuel gauge would be nice, as would a standard center stand and an accurate speedometer. (why can't motorcycle manufacturers get speedos right??). Plus, your gear indicator mechanism sucks.. mechanical is better that whatever you did.). Self-cancelling signals, emergency flashers and a voltmeter should be mandatory on all bikes. All minor stuff, that, at the end of the day doesn't ruin the Guzzi experience for me..... ride safe!

Good Morning Dave. l guess that speedo display is a bit of a ''Marmite syndrome''. Personally l like the general look of the Guzzi, however that display! The bike l very newly owned had two clocks that l much preferred...l believe they suited the more classic look.. Speaking of art, l first became aware of Adams in the late sixties, especially the photos of Yosemite and the 'Moonrise over Hernandez'....Did he just pull up on the side of the road one afternoon whip the camera out and take that 'Decisive moment'... or was it planned..... A full rigged Sailing Ship is possible the most beautiful ''moving object'' ever created by Man.......Of course the afore mentioned is purely a personal view....Greetings from extremely hot España ...

I love the offset display of my V7 Stone . All info in one place and there's space for my satnav on the right. Sorry I do not have the mental disorder of OCD. I have two 2022 - V7s. The Stone is NOT a retro bike. THerefore silly comments about an offset display being contrary to 'retro looks' are just so much piffle. The Special IS the retro model. The Twin clocks on my Special shake so much that I fear the needles with be shaken off and they are not nice to look at after 40 mph. I hate the "RETRO" fashion. Those who want retro should try a 1960s bike with carburettors, 6volt Lucas electrics, magneto and or points ignition. That'll cure that "fashion". Why do I hate fashion and the pursuit of "the right look" Well that is because I am not girl and I don't need pretty things that conform to someone elses ideas. I am a man and I want practical things that work . Those that do not own a V7 but have opinions about them are to be ignored for the dummies they are.

OK, friend, and obvious fellow lover of photography, if Ansel Adams were alive today, what would his reaction be to digital photography? As a lifelong photography enthusiast, I've always felt Adams' major accomplishment wasn't just in the selection and composition of his scenes, but in the process of creating great images via the chemical photography process of his time. Since that process is nearly obsolete now, I often wonder what sort of digital works of art Adams would create in the current digital age...
