I disagree it was a "hard job" to adapt the material from the Second Age. They were free to do whatever they wanted so long as it complied with the framework of the text. But the show writers are incompetent nincompoops. They aren't qualified to produce commercials much less a high end tv series.

Would like your feedback on this as a writer. The Tale of Years appendix (to me) is a “writer’s outline”. I DO NOT think you need the Silmarillion. You have a lot of freedom to create given the outline in Tale of Years. Of course having the last 2 chapters of The Silmarillion would help but you don’t need that entire book. I’m not a writer. I thought season 1 should have been focused on adapting the section of the “Tale of Years” appendix that covered the events of the first 15-1600 years of the 2nd Age. It should have focused on Sauron in disguise going among the Elves of Lindon and then the Elves of Eregion. Developed Celebrimbor’s relationship with Sauron in disguise. So much opportunity for good storytelling there. Show us the Elven lords that eventually get elven rings. And then the season should also have introduced us to the cultures that would get rings - the multiple dwarf kingdoms and the mortal men. We didn’t get any inkling of who the future ring holders were going to be! There’s 16 of them. Where are they? The Harfoot storyline was a waste of time for season 1. So was the Numenor storyline. Save that for season 2. And we didn’t need so much time spent on a mount Doom origin story and a Mordor origin story. That could have been condensed.

I think I would have to brush up on the content of the appendices to give you a precise opinion but I agree it had potential and it was completely wasted, especially Saurons manipulation and his dynamic with Celebrimbor. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I enjoyed the Harfoots storyline ahah it's pretty straightforward story although that fight between the wizard and the priestesses(?) was unnecessary. I think it would've been cool to explain why Gandalf has such an affinity for trusting Hobbits - although yea it's not confirmed the istari is Gandalf.

I don't think anyone REALLY cares that she is a warrior. The problem is the convenient way everything she wants just falls in her lap by accident. The convenient things that just happen to further the plot. It's LAZY writing! There seems no care taken to achieve a natural flow. It's curtain up, curtain down. I am so confused with some of the choices they made. The rock smashing scene is like 5min long!! That's insanely long for repeating something on screen. And for what? What was the point of it? The closeup of her riding on a horse. Many things put in the show send you into confusion and you feel like it's not real, you're in the twilight zone. This was supposed to be well put together as a production. Instead, you constantly get pulled out by amature hour, their questionable choices. So I am not angry by the fact that the show sucks (that just confuses me). What makes me ANGRY however, is if you say anything negative about the show, you are dismissed as a racist and misogynist. It's apparently irrelevant that I write out my complaints and absolutely nowhere touch upon melanin nor gender.

If you take a peek at some subreddits, you'll find plenty of people hating the mere fact that she's a warrior, confusing it with femenism agenda (which is delirious if you ask me 😂). There's a lot of opinions on the show and there's certainly some people who hate it because Galadriel knows how to wield a sword. I'm like you on that regard; I'm confused ahah. About the criticism of being racist or wtv, I get you. We should be able to discuss certain decisions, however, there are certainly racist people in the midst of those raising legitimate questions. Sometimes, people on the internet get too heated. But yea, I don't think RoP would've worked if it had other cast members - the issue isn't the actors cuz like I said I think they did the best they could. A show is not only the sum of actors, writers and director. Even most costumes were meh or bad. The issues it has have nothing to do with POC or feminism/ mysogony.

As always such a wonderful video, well edited and with a thoughtful critique. I watched the whole show wanting to give it a chance and I comme out of it, much like you, with a big meh feeling. Visually it was a beautiful series, I loved the effort invested into practical effects for the orcs. I think one of my biggest deceptions was the last episode with saurons reveal. The whole sequence where he offers Galadriel to be his queen and to rule together, I thought hmm maybe there could have been a very interesting story to tell there, the story of the final temptation of Galadriel, but no she just pushes him and he goes away. Shit writing, decent acting, superb backdrops and costumes. 6/10

Your edits are getting better and style is coming in nicely. From the outside looking in, Rings of Power is another case study of how things can go very wrong when tackling a story with such mammoth lore, and strict legalities, such as The Lord Of The Rings. When access is limited to the appendices, trying to write a prequel is very difficult, and certainly trying an reimagining would be easier on the writers. On the plus side all this talk has got the itch to read the LOTR books. Sounds pretty rich with narrative, and world building.

You speak as though she was the only bad thing in the series. She is the main character, and is the worst thing in it - but EVERYTHING in the show was abysmal. First - the dialogue. 'The rock looks down, the ship looks up' & 'the dog may bark at the Moon but cannot bring it down' and all that nonsensical failing to be 'Tolkienesque' shit. Then Sauron leaves a map on her brothers body for .....no reason whatsoever. Then ninja turtle Galadriel kills a Troll in 15 sec (the whole fellowship needed around 5 hard minutes to do that, WITH Gandalf) and she obviously brought idiots with no skill in fighting with her, who couldn't kill a Troll together - to search for Sauron, lol. Then Gil-galad sends those elves to Valinor as if he could even do that (he couldn't). Then a servant girl takes her knife on the ship to Valinor and LEAVES IT ON THE FLOOR of the ship. WHY? Then she takes it from the floor and jumps to her death. Then 'not-Gandalf' rides a comet (why?) and doesn't know how to speak. Then Sauron comes out of nowhere in the middle of the ocean near Valinor with some random humans exactly where she is. How? Why? Where was he going with them? Then a kid and a veterinarian woman kill an orc and leave to safety of high ground of the tower. Then Galadriel comes to Numenor and orders to leave, and people that DON'T want her in Numenor make her stay, lol. Then comes a massive miles long trench right next to elven watchtowers; with trees cut all around - but nobody could find them for centuries and the elves leave like the day before we see that. THEN they MAKE UP a new Silmaril, ffs. And the elves are dying in three weeks for no reason. Then the vet girl and her people LEAVE the tower with only one road that leads to it to be slaughtered in a village. Then writers don't know how volcanoes work. Water would not cause an eruption. And such an eruption would not be survivable. Nor would it make the skies permanently dark. Then female ringwraiths (with no rings) appear out of nowhere to find Sauron and not-Gandalf beats them and starts talking fluently in an instant. Then Galadriel gets mad at Sauron for her insisting he's the King. He never once lied. Then dialogue - again. Needs to be mentioned at least twice. Then stealing sentences from LOTR, stealing Balrog design from LOTR, stealing Sauron's armor from LOTR (and wraiths, of course), adding Hobbits, fucking up timelines. Then - dialogue. And that's the show. It is literally abysmal in EVERY way.

She was a warrior, but not a wire guided ninja, like a character from a matrix movie. like that scene where a group of men get their butts kicked by a cave troll, and she comes in and effortlessly flies through the air and kills it all alone, as if lord of the rings was a Chinese kung-fu movie. I think this comparasion lacks selfawareness. A character being ninja cool Its not perse bad neither a character being remarcably good at something ( magic, martial arts, knowloedge, diplomacy, etc). You have Legolas acrobatics in LOTR and in The Hobbit as well so we know AND accept that elven people are quite skillfull AND flashy in everything. I believe that what makes that scene with the ice troll fail Is that It failed to add anything to her character. She Is a commander but didnt command a thing so we didn't get to understand why anyone would follow someone so extreme and selfish as her to that remote place at all.
