The best education for these children will be a homeschooling solution. The international schools, the majority, I would say are not adequate. They do not teach children to read, and to read a lot. They do not assign enough STEM course homework. I would never send my child, if I had one, to a local international school. Maybe you could send them to a boarding school in HK, for example. Therefore, homeschooling is probably the only option, provided one has a decent education oneself, and feels qualified to teach Biochemistry, Physics, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Calculus, Trig, etc, up to the AP level in high school. Not many parents can do this, however.
@JakTalkThai

Ask your wife why in focus on international schools! There’s always at least one government school in each city that is extremely good. It’s ludicrous to assume international schools are the only option for your child

I use to work near Pattaya. That land would be increasing in value. The location isn’t exactly as “isolated” as NE Thailand- BKK isn’t that far away. Education wise, one could do home schooling until the kids reach middle school age then send them to a private school. There will be other expats nearby. Building a “simple house” will be a lot cheaper and one could gradually add on once there is more income. There will be challenges the first couple years but it will get easier. Best wishes to their adventure.

Nice interview. If they only have money for one year I recommend that he immediately gets a job somewhere eg as a teacher. His English is excellent. If its a school near his farm he will only get 30,000 a month but it means that him and his family will probably last longer. Its a shocker if they arrive and start putting heaps of money into the farm and things dont work out and they spend all the money. After finishing work at a school he could get stuck into the farm work and on weekends. He would also then be part of the social security scheme and have free health insurance. Unsure if this extends to his family or not. Post edit.... Ive thought more about it and really believe that you should just use the farm for pocket money. I bet its hard to make a real earner from it anyways. One thing is for sure is that it will be so depressing for you to have to invest all that money and find it runs out and you have to go back to the Uk and start again. It will be a complete nightmare and struggle to move back again assuming you sold everything to come here. Just my 2 quid worth....

Yeah man coming back to the UK is a nightmare, for me at the time(2014), because I'd been abroad for more than 5 years I lost my right to 'habitual residency' in the UK. No benefits (or on suspension due to logistics/documentation). Took me a year to get my son recognised as a British citizen (had to get my MP to take the matter to Parliment). That was just the tip of the iceberg and, it was 19 years ago. However, don't let that put you off, if you land on your feet you won't ever wanna come back. I only did so for medical reasons otherwise I'd still be there.😃

What a lovely couple, good luck to you all, you're gonna need it, can the young man still speak Thai/Issaan?My son came from Mahasarakham to the lake district in 2014 at aged 9. He cannot remember a single word of Thai now, he'd have no chance if he went back there as his mother moved on (if you get what I mean) years ago. He's an English zoomer now, such an English teenager, he could've written the book on it, nightmare. Does he still have Thai nationality? Have they considered the visa situation? I'd wait until I was 21 too, avoid National service. Sorry to be a doubting Thomas/party pooper, but if he has dual nationality he will have to decide, now he's 20 if he wants to be Thai or British. He'll have to give up one of them if he decides Thai he'll be ok in Thailand (apart from being eligable for the draft) however, for his wife and kids???????????? But, on a lighter note, if he's got a reasonably wealthy and more importantly supportive Thai family they'll be ok.Good luck again you guys.

i really really wish them every success, but i get the feeling that they have a romantic view of life and without a large bank of savings will struggle to make it long term in issaan, a few lime trees and tilapia will not feed them for a year, one thing i have noticed in thailand is if you are successful at something others will copy you and flood the market, so unless they have family there to help and support them life will turn into a struggle, they mentioned ryan from life in bamboo and he looks to have a wonderful life but he has a family network around him and had a decent bank of savings, and a successful you tube channel, which is where i think they are hoping to succeed at but to me that is where the gamble is, you tube can be very fickle so again i wish them all the best of luck and will be watching with great interest, thanks for sharing

Advice: She should not worry about not seeing other farang. Living with other farang can be a curse. There are too many strange farang characters here, maybe about 99 percent of them. I never hang with other farang. I like being the only farang in my village. Just learn Thai, week by week, and then enjoy your life in Thailand among the Thai people. Farang who come to Thailand to be with other Farang should have stayed in their home countries. There are more Farang for them to enjoy where they came from. Also, if you live in a place with Farang, many of the Thai people are completely burned out from having to deal with the Farang Tourist weirdness, month after month, year after year. When this happens, both the Farang and Thai sort of go crazy together. The Thai service people seem to contract some sort of craziness disease from the Farang, and are never the same, hence. So, stay away from other farang when you get here, is my advice.

I think you need to get that Night View Globe behind you synced to your actual position in Dublin. And, the globe should show the view at your actual position, in real time, meaning that the globe must virtually rotate. This way, your viewers could know what time it is in Dublin during interviews, without needing to ask you. I have spent hours trying to detect any rotational movement in the globe projected behind you. In my opinion, the globe behind you does not move at all. Maybe someone knows how to fix this. I do know of an amazing opensource astronomy piece of software that can project the globe in real time. However, then you might be minus the lights on Earth, which would also be unsatisfying. There must be a solution to this problem.
