My husband and I suffered from infertility. He had low sperm count and i had hormone imbalances. We were told our chances of natural conception were very low. We knew we couldnt afford IVF, but i also knew their were ethical considerations i didnt feel comfortable with. We saw a natural minded doctor who put us on supplements to help raise my husbands count and balance my hormones. Today we have a beautiful 2 year old son who was concieved naturally.

I am 40 years old and pregnant with my husband of 3 years naturally despite a failed IVF. We did all the tests, ultrasounds and we were both physically normal but we weren't getting pregnant. We did IUI and then IVF once but the only 2 embryos we had deteriorated on their own. We were told it was my advanced age and the statistics were low for me to get pregnant. I just tried everything that I could to get pregnant but I was getting stressed because of this. Then last Christmas we just took a rest from everything, we relaxed and just enjoyed with family and friends. I would pray everyday to God for guidance on my daily actions that could lead to my pregnancy. And then I got pregnant naturally and the doctor said it seems like a healthy baby. I am currently 15 weeks and still praying for a healthy and strong baby. On top of all the things to make me healthy and relaxed, prayers also helped a lot. 🙏🏼

Really? Interesting perspective, different than mine - not judging, just observing. I knew it since like forever, that most embryos are destroyed in the process, and thus is unethical. But why? If you are struggling with getting pregnant naturally, chances are high that you will not end up with dozens of embryos sitting in a freezer. Unfortunately, it is much more likely that you will have the opposite problem, namely that you did not get pregnant but are out of embryos. I live in a country where genetic testing is only allowed if medically indicated, but in the US I doubt that you HAVE to do it. So just don't? Similarily, there are different treatment options leading to less egg production-or you decide to only get a subfraction fertilized. Anyhow, don't make a decision based on this very decisive interview. After years and years of believing it would happen naturally at some point (it didn't), I went through 3 ICSI cycles. We had around 30 eggs collected, but only 5 embryos made it (there was obviously a reason for our infertility). Nr 4 is currently kicking me in the belly, and although chances are very low that the transfer of Nr 5 will end in a successful pregnancy, I sure will try. So at the end of this process, we will have no embryos left, we did not destroy any based on genetic testing, and if all goes well, we will have at least one baby. I don't see anything morally wrong with our journey.

The countless doctors, surgeries, bullies from adults and kids, the low self esteem that still affects us to this day. There is so much to be said here. I do think it’s easier to reject IVF if you haven’t experienced being denied the chance of being a parent like so many beautiful Christian couples are. It’s incredibly personal. My husband and I are pro-life and Christian. We tried all the paths available (naturopaths, surgeries, thousands of dollars of natural remedies, and many different specialists). There are no adoption options in Australia (where we live), only fostering which wasn’t something we were interested in. What were we left with? IVF. We went down that path and clarified with our doctor that we were pro-life and didn’t want to throw away any embryo. We refused to test them too. We were blessed that the first transfer was successful. We are now about to give birth to our first daughter. Yes there are some embryos left over, and they are frozen. We are planning to use them, and if we end up not using some for whatever reason, we would like to donate them to Christian couples dealing with infertility. I have issues with people who talk about infertility who haven’t experienced it for themselves. And to be honest. It’s mostly Catholics who have an issue with it. I don’t believe in abortion or throwing away embryos. Each embryo is precious from the moment of conception. So much more can be said about this topic. But I’d say, only people who haven’t experienced infertility first hand can talk about this as an evil thing.

They did like 5 failed rounds of IVF and finally conceived a little girl. She ended up inheriting her dad's heart condition and had to undergo open heart surgery at 6 months old. It was so brutal. I don’t know why, but hearing how the medical procedure is done, it felt wrong. I am at this time a single 30-year-old virgin who has not gotten married yet, and consequentially not have marital sex to conceive or have children. So my experience is not the same as those trying to have children or have had children using IVF. But, somehow hearing about procedures of removing materials for conceiving life, fertilizing eggs in a Petri dish, then medically placing them back into the woman-or in some cases a different woman-felt wrong. It was similar to my experience learning about how abortions are done. [Abortions are not the same. It is not my attempt to equate abortion with IVF. They are two different things] It’s one thing to hear “IVF helps people have kids” and “abortion is for the health of a woman and giving her choice.” It’s another to hear the medical procedures of how they are done. This is a deeply personal issue-as is abortion and other things-for all women including myself. So at best I can understand my own thoughts about it, make my own choice(s) on IVF, and approach the subject with others in a tactful, charity-filled way that always seeks the good of others as well as for myself.

This doctor isn’t giving the full data and picture of IVF. The majority of people do not have 10 embryos frozen. -.- They recommend having 3 embryos per live birth because statistically on average it takes that. The majority do not stick. It’s a numbers game unfortunately. Not every embryo is viable and could take several transfers. There is a drop off at every IVF stage. For example if you have 10 follicles growing only 7 maybe retrieved and then 5 are mature and 4 or 3 fertilize and then depending on your age maybe half become embryos if your lucky and then maybe half of that number are viable embryos and then you have a 40-60% chance of them implanting. I wish the doctor was giving a more well rounded view of the science that goes into IVF. Its video is very biased, disingenuous, adds stigma to an already hard infertility diagnoses and misinforms the population of what IVF is.
@leahnewton914

Well, you also have to consider natural human embryo mortality. "From various strands of evidence it has been calculated that in a normally cycling woman who is sexually active and not using contraception, conception will occur in about 85% of cycles. Of those fertilised eggs, around 15% will be lost before implantation begins. Of those which begin to implant, only about half will implant successfully. Of the half which do implant successfully (as shown by detectable HCG in the woman’s urine), between one third and one half will be lost at the time of the menses. Overall, therefore, around 75% of all conceptions are followed by an apparently normal period." If the core issue is that IVF creates fertilized embryos that aren't ultimately viable, then we can identify the same problem with sex and people shouldn't be trying to procreate at all.

When you play God, when you choose whether an embryo lives, dies or is frozen indefinitely is morally wrong. If natural implantation doesn't occur of a fertilized egg, it wasn't meant to be. When you are physically choosing to discard life because you think that baby isn't viable or you choose which embryo you want down to sex selection is morally disgusting. Life is sacred and should be valued. When you start selecting which one gets to have a chance at life by a checklist you are ignoring the value of life.

Parts of this conversation are disingenuous. In the case of lumping genetically abnormal and mosaic embryos in the same group and saying they are destroyed creates a false narrative. Many clinics keep and will transfer mosaic embryos, the majority of embryos “destroyed” are not compatible with life meaning they have excess or missing chromosomes - ultimately not implanting or quickly miscarrying naturally if they were implanted. Also, to say, because some people choose to create too many embryos and leave them frozen that there is no ethical way to practice it is also misleading. There are many people who choose IVF, are very selective in only fertilizing a small number of their eggs, and WILL implant all of their embryos.. so it’s disappointing to not hear that part of the conversation and just villainizing the practice in general.

This is what we did after much praying. We got 4 embryos. I miscarried two- we did the miscarriage test and they both had trisomy 22. The last transfer is my twins. I have zero frozen embryos.

You normally make such good arguments but the part about screening people who have ivf is just not it. 1, it's a slippery slope to screening everyone who might become a parent. People could have forced abortions or children taken away because of political stances and petty reasons if we go down that road legally. It's also not helpful to the core argument because we don't need "better screenings", we need an outright ban on ivf because it's killing babies. 2, it's not an effective argument and is more likely to turn people away from your better points than convince them. The people who might be convinced by this argument are likely people who already agree with you or who will be thoroughly convinced by your other points but because you put such an emphasis on your example individuals being gay, this section is likely to turn away many gay people who may have otherwise heard and been convinced by your other arguments against ivf. If the goal is to save lives, why are you okay with including this point and turning people away? It also gives your political opponents more reason to dismiss you outright as a homophobic and hateful person. If you want to include this point in the future, I would seriously implore you to examine why you feel the need to include it and why you feel it's important to emphasize the individual's orientation. Lots of straight people are also unfit or abusive parents. The way you present the argument really makes it seem as though you care more a the individuals being gay and not about the abuse which is, however horrible, still not the main point. The main point is that ivf kills babies.

Some of the conclusions you draw in this video are a bit long. For instance, saying an average ivf round produces 15 embryos - i would say it’s very unusual to get 15 healthy embryos by day 5 in an ivf cycle, let alone those that are transferred and are still not viable. Also calling it “eugenics” for selecting against embryos that may be chromosomal abnormal is a long bow too - they aren’t selecting for any particular trait, only for viability.
@kathrinrac

Agree with this so many exaggerations in this video! Most people get 3-5 embryos that make it to day 5 and then usually half of these or less if that make it to live birth. Most don't do genetic testing so you are not selecting anything unless you test because you have recurrent miscarriages due to trisomy etc and if so then that embryo with trisomy unlikely to result in live birth anyway. I have not heard of a single person in my career just discarding embryos just because of something minor.

You should never let how a child came into the world change the way they are viewed. A child is not their method of birth. So you shouldn't let these kinds of conversations invalidate your own children especially. That being said it's important to look at the methods we use to bring children into the world. Because of the ppl involved. A child Bron through rape, Surrogacy, or IVF are still valuable human beings. But we still have to look at rape and do what we can to prevent it and restore the injustice done, we still have to look at the ppl in surrogacy and the situations that happen, and same thing with IVF. There is a difference from a moral theology perspective when it comes to having an abortion vs. letting a frozen embryo die. While an abortion is a deliberate act that causes the death of the preborn baby, letting a frozen embryo die is simply removing a burdensome system of life-support. Just as we are not morally-obligated to keep a brain dead person on life support forever, neither would it follow that a person is morally-obligated to sustain the life of a frozen embryo. This is why it is even more difficult, and perhaps unjust, to legally declare rights for embryos created through IVF.

She was blind and then her eyes were opened to the horrors... She had a conviction. For me that sort of thing has happened to me because God convicted me on a particular sin. She left that practice. She started something different because she couldn't in good conscience continue in that.

Most of the subjects that are raised here are not specificaly relevant to ivf. Genetic screening and the decision to abort are done in any pregnancy, naturaly concieved pregnancies as well, and with all due respect t the "moral question" this is raising, until you know what it is like to take care a child that has down syndrom or any other abnormalities i would go much easier on the judging....judging the decision to abort these babys is no less trying to be god. But I assure you that god doesnt judge anyone. Secondly, bringing children into this world will always be a selfish act, no matter the method used, and unfortunatly there is no such thing as a license to be a parent and anyone can do it, it is completetly irrelevant if its done through ivf or naturally, so again, your whole conversation revolves around moral issues having children specificaly in the modern world with the technologes we have, but it doesnt realy have anything to do with ivf. A woman having 10 frozen ebryos is lucky. When you have fertility issues and can barely achieve 1 or 2 embryos that are good enough to transfer in a cycle, you cant be very picky and the ivf procedure gives you the chance to be a mom. Your coversation lacks some respect towards the women going through these procedures. Its a good thing the dear doctor does not practice ivf treatments anymore. This show is judgmental and promotes judgmental reactions from the audience, how moral is that towords women who cant concieve any other way?. And the consipracy theory of "trying to select only the prime babys that fit the ideals of the ones in power", come ooon.....if thats not agenda driven idont know what it. And speak of morality and "the ones in power" and every 15 mins pausing to do a commercial. And for cofee non the less! One of the biggest fertilty killers... come on.

My husband has no vans deferns… it’s a genetic condition. He was born that way. His sperm will never reach my eggs. IVF is the only way for us to have a family. Even if his semen is good, there is no physical way for it to reach me.

I am not against IVF. I was considering it myself for a few years and it has helped some women who desperately wanted a child and couldn't have one otherwise. Anyways, I decided now against it for various reasons. One is that some women got cancer after getting IVF. Thank you for this interview. All of this needs much stronger ethical restrictions and I agree other alternatives need to be promoted much more. Especially to create a social environment that is women-friendly so that they, instead of going through extreme levels of emotional and physical turmoil, can flourish do that their body and mind can be healthy enough to receive and carry a child. I feel a lot of this shows that the burden and responsibility is put too much on women again. Women are more ready to go 3 years through a painful processes while we have to talk much more about what environment makes it possible for women to have children, work and a loving relationship instead of the only option being a single mom, empoverished by expensive treatments and no time to work or someone to support them. How we treat each other is still the real issue that needs to evolve. Child bearing is extremely dangerous to women and before we had modern medicine a lot of women died from it. But it still needs much more progress in terms of who has which responsibility to raise a child.

Lila, please can you talk about ‘egg freezing’ rather than ‘embryo freezing’! I searched Christian perspectives on egg freezing, but no results came up!! Pls discuss on your channel ❤❤

She jumped over a big category in her statistic at the beginning. She didn't include those that had a chance and didn't make it. Not a good look.

13:00 This makes sense. Taking cells from the very beginning stages of a baby probably has consequences that no one thought about.

Hi! Im a surrogate. Just signed my contract. 1. I am paid multiple tens of thousands. 2. I cannot initiate an abortion unless my life is at risk. I do have a right to refuse abortion. IPs can ask for abortion, but I do not have to abort. 3. I dont believe embyros are babies. 4. I believe people can really mistreat the ivf and surrogacy process, but most people just want a healthy baby. Thankful to listen to different perspectives. 🎉
