There is also a tile swap plug-in available that makes the process much more simple than the gbvm method in my opinion

I just read the GBS Central Article, and maybe you misspelled .ARG0 its .ARG"zero", the number, not "O", The letter. It means Argument index zero, the first value on the stack that you can push to and pull from.

You're probably right!! I still don't fully understand the idea of the stack though

Sometimes I still feel very constrained by tile switching because of the "unique" requirement. I made a stitching game where you would have to run along a line for the pattern to appear. Initially the line was just dots but because that is repetitive, I had to start jumbling pixels, and now it looks less good. You really need a specific idea for what you want to do and then be very pragmatic about it.
@RobertDoman

You can jumble pixels for the tiles, or write the numbers on them like I did for the car, but to make it look clean, when the scene starts, just remember to set the artwork to something cleaner?

THIS is the very thing I've been waiting for. I had no idea it was already in the studio. buuut what about movement blockers? Can those be edited via a similar script? In my mind, I'm thinking something like what happens in Zelda: Oracle of Seasons where you hit a switch across the river to lower the bridge. I want to do something similar in my game to also remove or add movement blockers the same way

also is this likely the reason for missingno looking the way it did in pokemon red/blue?
@RobertDoman

Possibly, this mixed with variable overflow, where the variable isn't the expected value and then it will display wrong
@islandofmisfitnoise8070
8 ай бұрын
So does every swap tile need it’s own global variable? Like if I had a sprite sheet with numbers one through 10, what I need variables for each one
@RobertDoman
8 ай бұрын
The idea of a variable is to hold information, and each tile that's outcome is unique, will need a separate variable So if you are displaying 10 numbers across 10 tiles, you will need 10 variables That's unless you think of a more efficient way of displaying them depending on your specific setup

Hi. I'm just learning about Tile Switching and I am trying to set it up in my own GB Studio project. However, I understand this can be used to create animations. Can you tell me how to go about telling the system to change the BG tiles every tick or every frame of animation?
@RobertDoman

If you use an actor, they have a section called On Update that is executed every frame Good luck!

Is there absolutely no way to replace a single tile that is repeated in the screen?
@RobertDoman
4 ай бұрын
You can, but it will replace all the others too If you need it that badly, could you just place an actor over the top? I'm sure with advanced programming knowledge these limitations don't exist though
@lucashoffmannn
4 ай бұрын
@@RobertDoman I guess you could. I was thinking about how Harvest Moon works on the GB, where you can have your crops placed on any place on the map, and they grow individually. There are just too many to be sprites, so there must be some sort of tile replacing being applied. Maybe working with GBDK directly that would be more feasible.
@RobertDoman

Is there a way to replace one big static image (with many different tiles) with another big image? Just for show big characters in Visual Novels and change their clothes.
@RobertDoman
9 ай бұрын
Like with the car image in the game, I set variable values and can change the car displayed based on which car I pick, but not anything simpler than a lot of scripting Consider having different scenes for when they have different clothes if that is all that is changing, especially if the only thing the scene has other than the artwork is text But test it out and see what works for you!
