It's complicated only if you want it to be complicated. Truth is, being human is pretty simple as long as you accept who you truly are and what you truly want. Being yourself is simple, being someone else is, in fact, complicated on every aspect.

shouldn't you more focus on the persons flaws if your only point in dating would be to see if you could spend the rest of your life with that person? The person could be a god, but if he/she has one or more habits or a way of doing something that i utterly detest, then there is absolutly no way for me to enjoy being with that person. Ofcourse you can change some simple things, but depending on what exactly the flaw is, it could just a be a matter of taste. For example, If i don't like shy people i can't date them. But on the other had the person could get less shy with me. Or maybe the person likes to be shy. It all depends...

I think this is terrible advice. I have followed this advice from the day I was born and not a single woman has ever shown romantic interest in me because of it. It is because i don't flirt. I did do it some times but quickly stopped as it was for me the same as lying. I want to be myself and say the things i want to say. And this means that i don't flirt with women. Because I dislike it and I never do it. So for even getting a date, this is terrible advice. It is way better to just pretend to be cool and after a couple of dates stop with the façade. This will make the woman invested and gives her time to start to appreciate you for who you truly are. Because most people are shallow, dont care for personality at first glance and therefore need a shallow approach to connect with.
@TheKing-ve7lz

Doubleranged1 Well I would personally believe that if someone won't give you a chance without you haveing to act a certain way that's completely different from usual then they are not worth it. @@Doubleranged1 If you want a woman to appreciate you for who you truly are, then why are you saying that it's better to pretend for a couple of dates? That's not who you truly are. What you're suggesting is truly terrible advice. The "what you see is what you get" idea is not about looking like a total slob and acting like it. It's about showcasing both the good and the bad, although with some respect, as you should with everyone. I've been the same witty, sarcastic, resolute and somewhat bombastic personality around everyone from strangers all the way to my own parents. Guess what? I've managed to score very nicely.

Instead of asking yourself, “do they like me?”, you should be asking “do I like them?” That way you automatically become way more interested in learning about the other person and don’t become self conscious. And of course, you’ll find out if you actually like that person. Which is VERY important.
@sandrar852

Exactly...I don't want a man trying to fit into what he thinks I might like. It actually comes off as disingenuous. Which makes me think he's telling me what I want to hear just so he could gain access to me more intimately. So instead of a real connection, it is actually fabricated.

I've been acting myself on first dates since I started dating, and have almost never had a second date, not to mention a relationship. Up until recently I thought the exact opposite of what he is describing in the video. I have been trying to convey a persona that is unlike my real self in hopes that I could get the girl to like me, because I was sick of failing to make it to the second date. Don't underestimate what he says about fewer second dates, it can and will hurt, it'll lower your confidence as it has done mine. BUT what I'm taking from this video is that it will pay off in the long run. Get discouraged, but recover. Then get back up and try again. This advice is as much for myself as it is for anyone reading.

Perhaps my favourite thing about Charlie is that his social style is one that I've learned to associate with "salesmanship" or vapid professionalism, but that his message is, at its core, one of great depth. His positive, energetic, extraverted style of presentation could easily be taught in a technical sense, but his method of teaching centres around inner work and not superficial external "hacks." He does of course share tips and tricks as well, but it's clear that this is done with the intent of providing tools to effect inner growth and not as ends in themselves. It has been eye-opening to him employ a presentation style that I often reflexively dismiss as phoney to convey such considered and thoughtful material. Keep it up.

Show you care. Don't just pretend to care. Actually care. And in the end, if you can't make her happy, accept that. And move on. Find the person who you can make happy and who thinks the world of you. Don't get caught up with someone who you know can't make you happy in the long run. Another advice: Try to figure out what the woman likes the most about herself and then compliment her on exactly that. For example, if a woman has a toned body, don‘t say her body looks great, but compliment her on her discipline to train regularly. Compliments about a women’s body shape are probably the worst that you can make if you don’t know her well - they may signal that the man might be primarily interested in her body. You could also compliment her on her creativity because of their well put together outfit. The easiest way to find out what people like about themselves is to ask about their hobbies or what they usually do on weekends. Especially, if a woman is very attractive, saying something just about her beauty, will not make you stand out among all the other guys. No-brainers to compliment women on are: Kindness, creatively, charm, confidence, humor/her jokes, thoughtfulness, cooking skills, style, cheerful attitude etc. In my case, if a man compliments me in some way on my humor or intelligence, I will like him immediately a lot more. Sadly most of the time 90% of compliments are somehow related to my look. Sad world! Btw, great video.

Meaning allowing people to know who you are, what you like, what you care about, etc. You may find that some people around you doesn't like or accept what you project. It could be unconfortable. Even painful. But the payoff is that among the people around you, you will find persons who actually like who you are, and how you are. And that will allow you to enjoy even more being yourself. The rest will just become passengers who took an earlier exit from your life, or who never got close.

I found out about this on my own a long time ago, and it is, in my opinion, the best, most important and most basic piece of advice regarding dating and romantic relationships in general: be authentic. Genuinely changing or improving yourself is not the same as pretending to be someone you are not or putting on an act.

I really have to disagree with the dilemma of 1st dates not evolving into 2nd dates when you are being authentic. I have found that when I reveal the true me: Silly, nerdy, disagreeing, imperfect, non-PC humorous. @Jonathan Bowen True that the personality distribution is denser around the mean, however this is not correlated with attractiveness, but rather pure survival. Being "normal" / having average personal traits, did in ancient times put you at lower risk of being an outcast/practically dead. That is why people tend to be that way. Hower, those that diversed from the mean, and did survive, did signal a superior character than the average joe, and this made them attractive. Especially if that out-of-the ordinary personality was accomplished with great self esteem. Being average = being the nice boring guy that finnish last Being risk taking and willing to make a fool out of yourself is in contrary interesting, and attractive.

Do women ever make dating mistakes with men?
@Ash_Wen-li

Of course, but since men are typically the pursuers, the issues tend to get framed as "men failing to get the woman"

I don't know why he aimed this more towards men. Women make this same mistake which causes men to lose interest because they're not feeling a connection or they're sensing a desperate vibe.

@TheDreamtimeprincess and immediately followed that by saying he was directing this at men because it was a problem he himself dealt with. It makes a lot more sense to direct relationship advice at the same gender as yourself because you would naturally have more experience with it and it'd just sound more like genuine advice rather than complaints about problems with the opposite sex. Not to mention these types of videos have a traditionally higher male viewer base.

No. Women are perfect in every way and have no flaws. They never had any flaws in any way in the past and never will have any flaws of any kind in the future. Any habits that you as an obviously oppressive male don't like are such because some toxic male made them that way. They Never lie, cheat or steal. There is no argument to be had. No debate whatsoever. They are extremely honest in their choice of clothing and make up as they are just expressions of how they feel. also they are incredibly honest.... and they never got your text... : )

Charlie, there is another solution to the situation that you have described. Concerning the "facade" of putting your best foot forward, potentially, you both relax those boundaries together, but you do so in a way that seems like you are building on your personality, not changing it. It can, and has, worked for me.

You can say over think dating and maybe you weren’t the coolest in high school or college, but who you’ve been before means nothing. It’s so important to believe in yourself and what you stand for before dating. But honestly sometimes you gotta go on pointless dates to find out more about yourself and what you like, what you don’t like

These are such simple truths that we don't acknowledge. We tend to care more about making the other person liking us than actually trying to let things flow and being genuine. I feel we just hate the feeling of rejection and build up the potential relationship so much in our own heads that we need the journey to have the destination we fantasize about instead of letting whatever outcome take it's course.

Dont be a pleaser and dont filter your thoughts around your date.. and finally, you are dating to see if this person is a good fit for you, not the other way around. Do go out trying to prove to her your worth, you are there to see if she's compatible to hang out with an awesome person like you. With that said, you need to work on yourself as well. Be a person of high value ..in mind and in body.

Ask the person you like what they want. SO MANY PEOPLE just assume if they like someone, they should just pursue them no matter what. Does the person like them? They'll make that person like them. Does that person want a relationship? They'll make that person want a relationship. Please avoid imposing your desires on the other person. Leave a polite way out. Accept, "No thank you."

So when you're advised to be yourself, this is what people mean. Sometimes, though, there is a difference between not putting your best foot forward and realizing that you should not be yourself. What I mean is, you should always work on becoming a better person and not be in the mindset where you won't make the effort.

note, that having parts of you, that you know the other person does not like, but still wants to be with you, is perfectly possible. hiding those parts, from time to time, is completely normal. so i would not completely turn around the ideology, and try to think too much into it, either. otherwise you might see problems in a relationship, that simply are not there. the question then becomes how important that part of you is for yourself. e.g. "swearing me" (who comes out playing computer e.g.) is not so important, that i cannot behave when my wife is around.
