So the seasons premiere of Ahsoka Episode 1 & 2 have released, and with it we had a few surprises for those of us who have seen rebels. one of the biggest was, why wasn’t Ahsoka the white present in the same white robe we see in the Epilogue of Star Wars Rebels? Was it retconned? Well it may not be that simple, and could actually be extremely intriguing. So if you’re wondering what happened here, or even if you haven’t seen rebels and don’t understand the situation,

In the somber ending to Star Wars Rebels, we see Sabine ruminating and waiting on the same railing of the Ghost crew monument that we see in the Ahsoka series. She is doing this after the defeat of the Empire at the battle of Endor and the tragic but brave ending to the Battle of Lothal where Ezra bridger harnesses the power of force sensitive space whales called the purgil to capture Grand Admiral Thrawn’s fleet, and burst them off into hyperspace, never to be seen again… That is until Ahsoka arrives to Sabine at the railing, and tells her it’s time to find ezra. Sabine says that she realizes there is something left to do, which is finding ezra. Now this leaves us without the honestly pretty shocking context that Sabine had been serving as Ahsoka’s Jedi padawan in the time since the battle of Lothal, before it going sour and ahsoka apparently quitting on her like she did for Anakin. Obviously this is still missing a ton of context since the show hasn’t come out, but this is a radical difference from what anyone, including me expected when Rebels finished. For a Mandalorian to serve as a Jedi Padawan truly is shocking, and if the Jedi Order is later re formed, it would make Sabine the first Mandalorian Jedi since Tarre Vizsla, possibly sharing the spot with Grogu from the Mandalorian.
So why was Ahsoka wearing white in the Rebels version of the finale, while wearing Grey in the Ahsoka version. Well the simple answer that most people will probably jump to is the retcon theory. Maybe dave filoni just didn’t think Ahsoka the white was fitting anymore and he wanted to update things for the modern adaption of those events. This would be pretty disappointing, as we were promised a singular unified canon at the start of 2014 and the canon reset, but it wouldn’t be unexpected. We’ve had many, many books retconned or overridden by on screen content, funnily enough the worst example of this was the Ahsoka novel, but there have been plenty more. It would be a step up to retcon screen material like Rebels, albeit animated. However, I think there could be a different theory that explains this. and it involves the world between worlds.
