Corvisquire isn't supposed to be a Steller's Jay or really any jay at all - it's a combination of a jackdaw and a Hooded Crow. Sure it has the blue color which I'm sure is supposed to resemble jays, but its main design inspiration is those two species. In fact, all the members of this line are based on British corvids - Rookidee is a tit (probably a combination of the Great Tit and Eurasian Blue Tit)*, Corvisquire is a jackdaw/Hooded Crow and Corviknight is a raven. *I know tits are Parids and not Corvids but they used to be considered the same family, so it counts.

To understand what they’re based on, you have to first appreciate that this is Galar, so they’re probably more based on UK or at least European birds. That’s why I think Rookidee is based on the blue tit , great tit and (possibly) non-European chickadee, which is a member of the Parus (tit) family. Its shiny form probably draws inspiration from the marsh/willow tit. Corvisquire is probably based on a small corvid- most probably the jackdaw, though its relatively bright colouring suggest elements of the (Eurasian) jay. Same with its shiny, but more jackdaw. And finally, Corviknight is 100% raven. For those that say that its size is too large for a corvid inspiration, the Eurasian Rave is the worlds largest passerine ( perching bird) and is bigger than several birds of prey. Corviknight is pure raven down to the neck ruffle and harsh cry.

It wasn't really mentioned, but the tower of London is mostly famous for torture. The play Richard 3rd by William Shakespeare has richard send his nephews (I think, been a while since I read it) taken to the tower and later poisoned so he could secure the crown. Mary Queen of Scots was also famously held there for many years until her execution. I've got a hunch as well that corviknight is based on the stereotypical depiction of an executor as well, with the all black and angry expression with what looks like it's wearing a hood as well, even with its "blade birds", axes stopped being used for head chopping and were replaced with swords from Spain (oh hey, paldea).

I'm going to touch on something a bit different than this video talked about: Corviknight's moveset and design lines up with a typical fantasy class (in fact, one of the most iconic,) the warrior. The warrior, as I interpret it, is a versatile fighter. It's a martial class with flexibility between offense and defense, and it shows in some of Corviknight's builds. For example, Bulk Up/Body Press gives me the impression of a greatsword-like bruiser (flex and bonk), and defensive screens/roost stall builds imply more of a shield kit (defensive shield stance). I like to believe there's a lot of flexibility on how to approach Corviknight. So, I think it's awesome that Corviknight keeps true to an archetype so well like this. I'm not speaking from concrete references, but I love this Pokémon. I hope I got across my idea.

Another thing that might tie into the whole "the ravens of the Tower of London protects the king/queen" thing is that, well, Corviknight, well, as a loyal knight it protects the crown. Knights must fight in service of their lieges and all. And a ruler with no protectors is easily dispatched by their enemies so having no "knights" in the form of these ravens would indeed be bad news.

I don't know where else to put this but I've noticed a lot of things connecting nihilego to the lore of scarlet and violet that I genuinely think you should look into. some of the connections ive noticed were 1. the tera orb symbol being the same symbol on nihilego as well as the fact terastillizations gives a pokemon a "crown" which nihilego could be seen as a crown 2. Geetas hair style looks remarkably similar to lusamine fused with nihilego as wells as the pokemon league symbol looks like the weird eye symbols on lusinamine/nihilego 3. the fact that sada/turo gets obsessed with a "paradise" is exactly how lusinamine gets obsessed with the aether paradise 4. since glimmora is already probably connected to area zero and nihilego and glimmora are both the only rock poison types sort of points to the fact something is up with that type combination in specific 5. in the scarlet/violet book the author has memories their memories messed with and the portion about the "disk" pokemon the author is unclear whether what he saw was a pokemon or whether or not it was even alive sort of resembles how the ultra beasts and specifically nihilego is described. It’s also interesting because the Ravens who are protecting the tower could also be considered “knights” because they are protecting the metaphorical crown. Therefore, just like the Ravens are protecting GB, Corviknight is protecting Galar. As for corvids/ravens being angry - that’s only when you make them angry, when you double-cross them & tarnish their honor - just like a knight who will fight you to maintain their honor &/or a knight who will not stand to have a miscreant go unpunished for their evil deeds (be it against the knight themself or against their lord/kingdom)

I’m pretty sure a raven is associated with war and death in at least one mythology. Too badb I can’t remember which one.

Hey nerd thing about the chickadees. Species were split due to both song and genetic differences. They were isolated in separate areas during the Last Glacial Maximum (ended ~12k years ago), and evolved both song and genetic differences due to that isolation.

I wouldn't take too much pride in being a Slytherin Austin.....The ONLY good people in that house are Horace Slughorn and Severus Snape. And as much as I love Severus as a character that's not really saying much for that house.

Neat vid! Though it’s kinda weird but I expected Tinkaton to be mentioned a bit in this vid, but I guess that’s what the Tinkaton vid was for

What makes the opening joke really funny, is that Ravenclaws emblem is an eagle.

The houses are basically chosen based on your traits, some are more vague then others though. Gryphindor: bravery Hufflepuff: Being nice? Ravenclaw: Smarts and a desire to learn Slitherine: Cunning.

The neat part about ravens though is that the opposite is also true... show kindness to a raven and they will remember it forever There is a video online about a person that took care of a ravens eggs that fell out of a tree during a windstorm and the raven watching brings random objects from time to time as thanks

So as a huge medieval history fan, and Armor nerd I have a couple additions and addendums. You should look into the myth of the valravne or Raven of the Slain . To quote wiki: The valravne that ate the king's heart gained human knowledge and could perform great malicious acts, could lead people astray, had superhuman powers, and were "terrible animals" to get off the wiki bit it was also said that those who ate the heart of the king could also manifest as a Knight in full plate armor. Which feels very fitting. Also! The Germans are the ones who popularized fluted armor with German Gothic. Later on said fluting mixed with the White Italian style to create the Maximillian Fluted armor that you showed pictures of :D
