The level of energy behind the specially chosen songs (and order thereof) provided a specific mandate to provide a paying gig performance. Queen cared about giving their best for all their performances. Even till the end Freddie would drag himself out of bed to sing the last album as he was near the end of his life. And Queen practiced and planned this performance so all the hits would stream perfectly as they were only given 18-20 minutes before the electrical got turned off. And Freddie was a true showman which I believe he got from his ballet friend. Plus Freddie likes to take the lead with the band and with the audience. He sang to the very back of the crowd so everyone felt connected. Plus, his voice was so unique and clear and he knew how to project that after all his past huge performances. Brazil was 100,000 people! And to think he had a sore throat in this performance! And the songs they wrote really made people feel good. Queen members are scholarly and that shows in how they checked off all points to give the best!

What struck me was that when you thought his voice was going to fail him (he was clearly struggling with some voice/throat issues), he would belt out an incredible note with that iconic, Freddie growl or rasp. To be able to project his voice over that crowd and everything around him, as well as being able to sustain that level of energy over the 20 plus minutes, is unbelievable and inspiring. Queen was the light in that concert, they exceeded that performance. They solidified themselves as the masters of music at that point. And to make it even shocking, as said, it wasnt even a Queen concert, this is a General public concert that various artists were also booked to perform at. The second Freddie said "everybody" to the crowd and they sang and clapped in unison during Radio GaGa, he basically hypnotized that crowd and created a moment that will stand on top as the best in music history. To make it even better, they were performing in their backyard and at that point, you cant touch them. They were on top

I like the narrator, yes he stated the obvious but he simply just spoke his opinion and knew most all had viewed the fabulous Queen 20 minutes of music perfection. Thanks for pointing out the things that get lost in the hysteria of watching the performance. I would love to hear more of your sincere opinions. Thank you.

My opinion, Queen , each of them were perfectionists. They argued because they were so in to being their personal best which caused them all to take it farther... other artists, bands did not practice and dedicate each second together to reach another "new sound" ideas to make them even more unique. NEVER CAN A BAND BE AS GREAT AS QUEEN, FREDDIE IS THE KEY THAT OPENED THAT MAGICAL MUSICAL EXPERIENCE DOOR AND SOMETIME IN ANOTHER PLACE FREDDIE I PRAY WE HEAR YOUR VOICE SINGING W/THE ANGELS AND REUNITE FOR A BEAUTIFUL QUEEN BALLAD! I am fighting cancer and found Queen via hearing of the movie Boho RAPSODY. Queen was a bit before my time. Freddie's voice.. rock, soul, jazz, Opera and all has motivated me and opened my ears to music again. So healing music is! Freddie's sickness makes me feel a connection to many lyrics he sings!!! IF I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY I WOULD GO TO MONTREUX NOW. I worked in finance, sales and marketing together and was a workaholic especially after my husband died of cancer yrs ago. Cancer does not discriminate and loves money. I have researched Queen so much and all of them loved Montreux and the pictures are beautiful. Yes, I AGREE W/WHAT FREDDIE OR ALL 4 SAID, IF YOU WANT PEACE AND SOUL GO TO MONTREUX... MUSIC is healing. sorry for ramble

I Saul live aid on television when I was an Upcoming senior in high school. I am a singer, actress, & musician myself. I’ve always been a huge fan of Queen & THAT What is the best moment in music history that I have ever witnessed! Was absolutely incredible. The music and the performance was extraordinary,! Freddie played with the camera on him just as he did with the audience. He loved to conduct the audience. Watching him perform was like going to vocal class.

I remember watching live aid with a bunch of friends. Owing up in the 70s, then early 80s, I didn't anyone who wasn't a fan. The band was touring during live aid, and they were not broken up, or on a hiatus. You got your information from the movie. I saw them in 84' (I believe it was) at Madison square gardens and their shows were always blow a ways. Don't under cut Queen, and don't act like they were some kind of under dog. You never saw them live did you, you didn't grow up with Queen... Just let it go

I think it was so amazing because it was that moment that people realized that Queen was the most underrated group ever!! They came out against all these famous acts, and the combination of Freddie’s vocals, stage presence, and the amazing innovative SONGS, all came together to show everyone that they far surpassed all the other acts.

I have watched this live on TV when I was still a kid but I'm then very familiar with Queen's songs because my uncle played their album (queens greatest hits) at least 2x/week. And I have learn to love every song in that album. I enjoyed their performance then but I couldn't have guessed that it will become the stuff of legend.. The greatest band performance of all.

You DO NOT see that performance and claim "they werent well known at that time"!! Wembley in its ENTIRETY were clap clapping in unison during Radio Gaga!! Not a few claps and it caught on, the whole damn place was at work! Queen admitted to being nervous and the interviewer was rude enough to ask them why they thought they should be there. Implying the bands future was based on this performance. Freddie answered it with class by reminding her they were asked to perform amongst the greatest musicians of all time and then walked out and proved it

I watched it on my TV and here it is 35 years later and I still bounce up and down and rock to the music and sing along and clap my hands (I forgot to mention, I am now 70). Some people grew up listening to Queen --- some of us still do. Glad also that Brian and Roger found Adam Lambert and have kept Queen alive and going strong. I know, Adam is no Freddie, but he has come into his own doing Queen performances. Freddie and Queen are legacies that will live on forever and I am so glad that the younger generations are getting a chance with the Movie - Bo Rhap. Oh, thank God for KZitem.

I remember this so well, and it has always remained my strongest memory of the Live Aid concert. The answer as to why it was such a great performance is actually pretty simple. They were an act that engaged the audience. Other acts performed for the audience, but Queen made the audience part of their act.

Queen knew how to play to that big stadium, they had been playing to crowds in arenas like that for a long time. Freddie especially knew how to make the folks in the nosebleed sections feel like they were right up front. Gave them a huge advantage, plus they are all amazing musicians and total pros.

But even when they first went on stage a large number of the crowd cheered also when they began Bohemian Rhapsody people cheered and clapped and within 30 seconds or so the crowd where singing along, Queen got an amazing reception from the audience especially compared with other performers more specifically in the JFK stadium which didn't have a very enthusiastic crowd, infact the American crowd just seemed bored and the performers had to ask them to join in multiple times, while with queen they didn't have to they just did it themselves. Along with a great crowd queen where also amazing, the performance was amazing the vocals were amazing it was just great and the song choice was great, queen I think where also a lot better than at least most of the other performers and just stole the show. I also believe some of the other performers were a bit jealous of queen for doing so good, imagine having to go on after queen you just wouldn't be able to compete.

I have my detractors but my opinion nods to Queen's best performance at Wembley in '86. This however, smoked every other act for live aid. Mercury's musical inclusion of the fans can't be underestimated either. Everyone can see for themselves what having a good time does but to be invited to join in and be a part of it! The day began as Queen against how many other acts? Whatever it was. It ended as all those acts up against Queen and 72,000 people. Do the math! 👊

This event happened when I was 25 years old, and I had heard of Queen, of course, but had never seen a video. The magnetic personality of Freddie was not something I picked up on from their albums or radio play. Virtually everyone I worked with raved about the Live Aid concert, specifically about the Queen performance. Having only viewed video from the event recently, I can finally see why people were just going nuts over it. After viewing many more concert videos - of Queen as well as others - I have come to believe that Queen gave a performance in which they got the audience involved and that is what people responded to. They did not present themselves as demi-gods or idols, meant to be viewed in awe from a distance. Holy scrap - these people who were there got to sing with Freddie Mercury! The way Queen's performance made me feel, even via video years after the event, makes me want to express my gratitude to the late Mrs Jer Bulsara and Mary Austin. Whatever they respectively brought to Freddie's life was the foundation we all stand on to honour the presence of this incredible band.
