His songs are put on a par with Dylan, McCartney and Lenon, and Chornovil, Stus and Kostenko. And it is all him - Volodymyr Ivasyuk - the author who found in the mountains that magic flower that brought him recognition for generations and changed Ukrainian music. Ivasyuk was a physician by profession, but by vocation he was a violinist, pianist, cellist, guitarist, and songwriter, who refused to write songs in Russian. On March 4, he would have turned 75.
In May 1979, Ivasyuk's body was found in the Bryukhovychi forest hanging by the belt of his coat. He had disappeared in April. Whether it was really a suicide or the work of the KGB is still unknown. But it is a fact that the composer did not fit into the framework of a "Soviet composer" and was inconvenient for the party. He was only 30 years old.
But despite his short life, he created more than 100 unique compositions and changed Ukrainian music forever. Watch the video about Ivasyuk's phenomenon, his life and death!
