I echo a lot of these thoughts. For me the in-house stories vs reading real children’s literature after first grade was the straw that broke the camel’s back. We’ve been really happy with Memoria Press and love their book selections.

We love TGATB and haven’t run into any of the issues you did, but it’s good to hear what others think! I’m sticking with it for the long run because it works for us so well! I’m looking forward to all the new things they’re working on for the future, especially their high school program.

I love that there are so many options for homeschooling parents to choose from. I have one daughter who begged for me to switch back to TGAB math after trying something else for level 2. She enjoyed the pre-k LA but wasn’t fond of level 1. Since they’ve revamped she is really liking level 3. My eldest wasn’t a fan at all. But having had 3 babies in the last 4 years, I have found I am very much in the season of needing a curriculum that is less work for me, so I’m grateful to have one child that loves it.

We have done TGTB preschool, k-prep, kindergarten, little hearts and hands waves and wind, handwriting, and math. We have loved everything except math. My daughter needed a mastery approach for math. I’m excited to try their history and older science units in a few years. Jenny Philips did say in a video this year, they were going to focus on high school. So that’s exciting. Also I believe she said once your kiddo completes level 7, they are ready for high school courses. I’ve also seen videos of mothers saying their kiddo was able to score near perfect on college placement tests, act/sat, after using TGTB through high school. That’s good to know. Loved this video and hearing your preferences.

I am such a fan of all about reading. I feel like it works for everyone! I am a piece together my curriculum type of homeschool mom. Tgtb didn't work for us, as much as I wish it did bc of the ease of open and go. Now we get to explore all the other curriculums out there!

Does AAR have homophones? As silly as it is that's one of the few things I still like about tg&tb. I've had to supplement so much with tg&tb and I've completely given up on it after level 3. We switched to MCT (Michael Clay Thompson)

I have used TGTB since 2018ish and it worked beautifully for us in the elementary years. I still think it's excellent for those ages. Middle school however left something to be desired. Their HS language arts is a really good resource and it is an excellent way to get the HS art credit in. I use that as just one resource though and plan to use 8 or so booklets per year to fit in the other things I'd like to incorporate like IEW.

We loved k-2 (old versions) swapped over to new math and switched companies for 3rd, k-2 language arts was amazing la 3 was repetitive and not enough new concepts to hold my daughters interest! It was a blessing in those younger years!

Thanks for sharing! I am currently using Level K with my sons and I'm thinking about purchasing the Preschool level for my daughter. I understand where you're coming from about the higher levels though. I plan on switching after Level 1 or 2. My boys have enjoyed the K Level though, especially the Booster Cards and books.

Abeka is better for everything. We are switching back to Abeka. TGTB maybe good for kindergarten and level 1 and after is stressful

Same! We've used Abeka since preschool (teacher led and simplified to our needs) it's solid and used in private schools for this reason. I don't lose sleep over Abeka because it literally ticks all the boxes. There are so many pretty curriculums out there, it can get overwhelming navigating them, but once I go through them I know almost instantly that they won't work compared to how straight forward and concise Abeka is. Sometimes we throw in games, projects, library books, and videos to "liven lessons up" but we'll always stick to Abeka.

I printed lessons for k of LA for my kiddo and we hate it. There is some parts that are okay but for most part it’s more of a hassle. We have done some of the new science units and they are hit or miss I have same feelings about math. I was looking for something this year to help my younger kiddo because what worked for my other kiddo just didn’t work for her. The only thing I actually like and would purchase again is the handwriting.

I agree with you. My oldest is gifted. My second is not but its still too easy for her. We loved the k and 1st grade ELA and math but after that it's not enough. We're still going to be using their handwriting curriculum until they get neat handwriting instead of chicken scratch. 😂

We tried level K LA for our daughter and only made it through about 20 lessons! The booster card book was too stressful for her!! Having to master a certain number of cards before you can move on to a lesson is too much pressure on a young learner imo!!

Im curious to know what youve moved too. We also tried TGTB as new homeachoolers but didnt even make it half a year, my boys just didnt do well with it. We did complete 2 full levels of the old math though. It was ok but very teacher intensive and with 3 elementary aged kids i just didnt want to do that again. We have mived on to Math U See and are very happy there. And for LA we have compiled a variety of curriculums :) im going to see if i can find a video of what your using now for LA!

I just found that the good and the beautifuls language arts from a third grade and up was not thorough enough. I still like to use it but I have to supplement it. I did hear a great things about their high school language arts. I think the language arts for third grade and under is more of a reading program. And I still have to supplement with the math. I do not care for the 5th grade math. The videos were not helpful for my child. I prefer to just use a grammar program and a writing program all separate so I know that they're getting enough. And I absolutely love their new science

I appreciate this video. We’ve used it for years as you know but I’m starting to stray. I do love their science units but I’m wishing I would have went with Masterbooks math for my younger too like we use for my 5th grader. I don’t want to switch during the school year but I just might.
