I've met Ed twice and as a diagnosed autistic I do think Ed is high in autistic traits. He is a nice bloke.

Wonderful interview, Mark. Thank you. I really appreciate Prof Dutton's understanding/explanation that we've now established a "grievance hierarchy" which is a kind of worship of weakness. This is so true. The more one differs from the societal norm in a negative way, the more social clout one can gain. it’s remarkable really.

It's a tricky narcissistic society to be grieving over death and everything is doom and gloom. And all humans bad. Total lies

Everytime he uses the catchall term "woke" he sounds more like a cultural crusader straight out of Fox News rather than a reasoned scientist
@ReadersoftheLostArt

For your comment to be true, “woke” would need to be a non-observable cultural phenomenon. The notion that Ed is a “cultural crusader straight out of Fox News” based solely upon his use of a widely recognised and understood term, might be interpreted as an unreasonable projection that goes beyond any supporting evidence. There’s plenty more substantive reasons to view him as a cultural crusader 😅

@@LichenAndMoss “woke” is akin to how the judge at the “Lady Chatterly’s Lover” obscenity trial described pornography - “I can’t define it, but I know it when I see it.” (Or words to that effect). My attempt at defining it would be: Woke = a hypersensitive refusal to discuss rationally and/or an excessive tendency to relate everything to some sort of racism/phobia.

Hi Mark, would you mind being open about which views and opinions in this particular dialogue you don’t agree with, and why? It would be interesting to hear your own take on these.

That's less important than embracing the idea that we can sit down and chat with people from all walks of life. Diversity must include diversity of thought as well. The tendency nowadays is that we need to shun people who do not agree with our own 'information bubbles'. My two cents ;-)

@@markvicente7I understand, and agree. But why the disclaimer then? I mean, on this particular video and not in others?

Anytime anyone is saying something that has a high likelihood of being interpreted by others as: race is a biological fact, race is genetic, race is real in some fundamental way apart from it being a societal construct, there is a scientific basis for supporting race as an aspect of human biology which directly correlates with intelligence - it's generally a good idea to put a disclaimer on your video and then be vague when people ask you why you decided to do that.

Privileged educated middle-class white male belittles the experience of people affected by system inequities, and the usual predictable response from those who love this permission to diminish people with disabilities, because why should they have to take the time to understand or acknowledge the reality of that experience. Much easier to say "oh everyone's got something" and "I treat everyone the same", than try to understand nuance and complexity. This isn't thought leadership, it's the same pushback we have seen over time with human rights issues affecting marginalised groups from people who don't want to acknowledge their own privilege. Edit: For further indication on just how ill-informed this viewpoint is, look at autistic suicide rates compared to the genuine population. Autistic people may also be more vulnerable to coercive control, and therefore trauma, abusive relationships, and workplace bullying. For those, like me, who find themselves here because they have found solace and support in Mark Vicente's excellent videos, as well as ways to recognise and protect themselves from harmful patterns of control, it's hard to watch this particular episode, but sadly, it's also the type of rhetoric we see regularly, and it's why our advocacy efforts are ongoing. My respect and gratitude for Mark's work remains unaffected.
