Another plus for me is how peaceful the off season is. You have the best of both worlds. A busy city that has lots of “big city” chains, etc., but then 6 months of pretty laid back lifestyle. I live in the City of MB, so not sure how others see it.

Yeah other locals see it too but crime is another issue in the off seasons during the winter months that needs tighten up but it has gotten better other than that i wouldn't trade it for no other place in the world even tho as im typing this comment just got a breaking news text that said "Body found on side of the road dead".still dont change my opinion of this place as i grew up here and been to many other cities but its just something special about the beach and our history here its unbelievable
@BACON-l3t

Great video guy and great valid points all true and i think all locals will agree on everything that you said our history here is amazing just kinda weird that the city dont preserve and sanction its attributes that it made Myrtle beach what it is today places like Charlie's place on Carver street that once hosted a mecca of some.Of the greatest names and performances in history and places like what used to be the pavillion these type of places bring allot of memories to folks who lives\lived and travelled here year after year but the nostalgia seems to be coming back to the beach especially with the upcoming Amusement park on the shoreline.

Yeah i used to do that to but my best times for me was in the evening around 5:30ish to 7 p and watching the sunset is even more special it really does calms you.and gives you peace almost like meditation and makes you appreciate the beach even more and consider it a blessing to be here.

I do the beach , but not near the main strip, I go far south or far north ( state park in the mornings)I pier fish least twice a month sometimes more. again usually hit far north or far south. If I do malls or retail shopping I usually reserve those times for weekday where its less 'crowded" movies I do the mall theater and I try to do matinee to avoid crowds. Locals do the happy hours intentionally and I'm one of them..ill do early dinner if I eat out or i save for breakfast and go early if I want brunch. I like the diversity of the new residents, the food and stories they bring.

I thought about moving there several times throughout my life and I'm glad I didn't. It's nice being a couple of hours away and it gives the family something to look forward to every year. I remember my time in the military living in Okinawa and San Diego and how going to the beach during that time didn't hold the same feeling as driving there once or twice a year did. I enjoy being being halfway between the Smokey Mountains and Myrtle Beach. As the old saying goes....different strokes for different folks

I always went to Panama City beach. My wife is from South Carolina, and last year she convinced me to take our vacation at Myrtle beach. I loved it! We were just down there 2 weeks ago. Stayed at the sea horn, and were going back again in a couple weeks. I love Myrtle beach because of its diversity, all the different attractions, restaurants, and kid oriented activities. As far as the beach goes, it’s unlike any beach I’ve been to. There’s just something about it that’s calming, peaceful, and can allow me to really relax. I love laying out on the sand until like 1am and just think. There’s no crazy college kids that go nuts on the beach, (at least when we have been) and everyone is super friendly. Its almost like California on the east coast. For sure by far my favorite place to vacation!

I was born in Mullins SC and I was always in Myrtle Beach. I currently live in San Antonio Texas but I'm thinking about buying a condo on Ocean Blvd. What is it like to live in the middle of it all? The condos I've been looking at have pretty high HOA fees but there's HOA fees include maintenance Insurance electricity cable television telephone things like that from anywhere between $500 up to $800 a month. If I buy a condo outright the idea of still having to pay that type of HOA fee was making me question whether or not it was a good idea but then I thought that includes so many of those things and if I decide I want to rent it out during the peak times in the summer that will help cover some of the cost of those HOA fees and the taxes at the end of the year. I just wanted to get your opinion on it because I'm trying to sell myself on it.

We lived in a single family house in Northern Virginia and moved to Myrtle Beach. 500-800 dollars sounds like a lot at first but when you add up all the expenses of owning a separate house it’s not unreasonable. By the way the property out property taxes here are very low.

Great video! Well done...enjoyed the drive. Lived there for 10 yrs before returning to home state. Unfortunately my list of cons outgrew the pluses of living there. Like you, I enjoyed the diversity (at first) but as it over populated over the years it became a joke. Transplants have this concept that moving to MB is a fix all but soon realize that jobs (if you're lucky enough to get a decent one) do not pay squat and so a lot of them last a short time before moving out. No sustainability in the job market. Very transient with people moving in and out. Try going to Walmart to buy a common item and shelves are empty so plan to do all your shopping before April and stock up for entire tour season. You get the brunt of living in an over populated tourist town. Once upon a time, one of the biggest attractions was the unlimited free beach parking access all up and down Ocean Blvd. The City of MB took that away. Unless you are a City resident you have to pay a pretty penny now. Everything over priced...taxes outrageous. Politicians are crooked...I know because I worked for one. And everything good about MB is strictly done for the tourists. A lot of them have no respect for MB not realizing it is a community where people actually live. The locals take a back seat to the tourists and the entire city revolves around them. The City doesnt want bad publicity so you wont see most of what really happens there i.e. their human trafficking epedemic, the continual drownings, politicians with criminal backgrounds, etc. Ill stop there but have not even touched the surface. Just glad I moved out!
