Maybe a sequel would be this. The kids grew up, and moved away from their hometown. It shows everyone and their new families, and the tragedies that happened between the first and second. Like chunk visiting Sloth’s grave or Mikey looking at a picture of his old friends. Then it turns to his kids, who are tucking in bed. They ask Mikey if they can hear “that one story” again and Mikey sits at the end of one of his sons bed and tells them the story of the Goonies and the mysterious ship that had disappeared into the sea that one fateful day long ago. He tells them goodnight and goes to bed, the camera focusing on his face and showing the fact he is hurting and he misses his hometown. His kids realize that this story is starting to effect their dad and they phone the other kids that are descendants of other Goonie members, like Brant and Andy are married or Mouth and the other girl married as well. The next day the kids leave home and head to the bus stop, telling the other kids to meet in Astoria. They have a long trip from home and finally make it. Meanwhile the parents (classic goonies go home from work to find their kids never came back from school and realize they went back home to find the treasure map they buried along with the stone and other items from their old adventures. The goonies get flights to their home. Meanwhile the kids meet for the first time all together and they find the spot they left the map. What Mikey’s sons know is that the map had a secret meaning behind the treasure. A location off the coast near an abandoned island mentioning a relative of One eyed Willy that held an artifact that was rumored to have some sort of magic with it. The kids ask a fellow sailor a ride to the island and with the map they trace words on an old skull and a secret door opens. Inside they experience labyrinths, a spinning room, and a maze, when they finally make it to the artifact, they get out and find the fratelli’s grandchildren wanting to reclaim the money they lost and kill their parents. The classic goonies arrive and one of Mikey’s sons tackles the one with the gun and everyone gets in the fight. They tie up both of the criminals and leave them on the island going back to the shore. Mikey explains to the kids that they shouldn’t have left on such a dangerous adventure and he threw the artifact on the beach, symbolizing his respect for others precious items and they go back to the shore. The classic goonies have a group hug for the last time and the kids all say goodbye and go home to where they belong. The final shot is the old home and the sunset in the distance, and a phantom like ship out in the far sea.

As badly as some people want a Goonies sequel, I think they should just leave it be. I absolutely love this movie!! However, it's timeframe for a sequel has long since burned out. I also think rebooting it would be horrible!! It's very true.....look at the newest Ghostbusters. It kinda sucked. You know what would be amazing though..... a Goonies theme park ride! That's the best way to honor this movie. I could be universal or possibly Disney. Either way those two companies have the technology to make an amazing, innovating, immersive, nostalgic, thrilling but still a family ride.
