I have been using Ecosia for 5 years now. Thanks for highlighting these kinds of stories. I work in forest restoration and yes, women tend to be more active and willing to lend their time in these efforts and they in turn positively influence their husbands or children.

..........You know I'm usually fairly resistant to anything that feels "feminist" ..... but I volunteer in conservation related stuff all the time, and you're right usually like 70% of the people that come and volunteer are women. Touche.
@elizabethlaceviojan3389
3 жыл бұрын
@@samueldegrey7718 In my experience, it happened organically, so to speak. We never really targeted a specific gender or age group but during community meetings, it was the women who attended as most of them pointed out that they were merely standing in as proxies to their husbands/household heads. This of course stems from the common rural dynamics of women staying at home with the kids while husbands were out to sea/farm or at salaried job in the city. And also that, in most cases, men wouldn't volunteer for things that do not directly benefit their livelihood, as their primarily goal is to provide for their family. But for women, they saw it as an opportunity to create a better environment for their children, being the primary caregivers.
@Liloldliz
3 жыл бұрын
@@samueldegrey7718 it's true in other sectors of volunteering too - for example, i have volunteered a lot at charity stores, and most of the volunteers have been women. do you think there's too much pressure on men to be the "breadwinner" and only take on paid work? it could be holding them back :(
@samueldegrey7718
3 жыл бұрын
@@Liloldliz I believe that I don't know. I'm a man so I guess I should theoretically have some insight. I think the trend of men only wanting paid work might be a part of it. I don't think I would have first started volunteering if I wasn't extremely passionate about the work (Turns out I like volunteering in general quite a bit though). I think that maybe some people feel like you are degrading/ undervaluing yourself if you work without being paid, and there may be an element of pride that turns some dudes off it.
@Liloldliz
3 жыл бұрын
@@samueldegrey7718 i am always worried about the social isolation men experience outside of work, especially after they retire. it's a big contributor to premature deaths. if more men can come together and support each other and work on things together without pressure to be financially """successful""", i think we would have a healthier world.

Sometimes the search of Ecosia doesn't always bring up the results I am looking for but despite that I still use it and suggest it to others as it is such a simple change that can make a difference, and more people should use it. It is only a small 'sacrifice' that in the worst case will require you to switch to another search engine just to find what you were after, which can really make a tangible difference. Thanks for all the work you do!
