What bothers me about these knives with relatively high prices is that the companies making the price can not even state the HRC. Why can't they state specifications which are hard for buyers to measure?
@wes.killed.it.5511

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that a majority of these OEM's don't actually heat treat their blades and that they are outsourced to a credible company for treating then shipped back to them after completing. I do know a couple do their own treatment; supposedly Reate does their own. But I also know that Bestech and QSP both send their blades out to the same company in China that heat treats all of their blades. Obviously that isn't an excuse for not knowing the correct hardness of the knives they're selling on the market; but my guess is that it's likely difficult for them to get an accurate number to portray hardness because they treat thousands of knives at a time in the same oven and each probably differ incrementally from knife to knife.

If WE Knife gonna keep charging 350-450 (for non integrals), they need to work on their heat treatment and get that up to 61-63HRC.

Dead reckon is an American company who makes a integral called the Ridgeback for $400-$500 depending on whether you want aluminum or titanium handle.

The specs for the Invictus were reposted from a 154CM version. They only updated the steel. Other sites aren't showing an HRc for the Magnacut version, so BHQ probably left it there.

I absolutely _love_ the Spartan Harsey, but the choice of sharpening is really odd to me. Why not include a sharpening choil/relief choil? Instead, it looks like they just arbitrarily stopped the final bevel, which IMO just cheapens it.

Ill be honest, i really wanted an SBD Mini Tempest bad, but then I handled the Evo Typhoon and was quite underwhelmed. It was borrowed so its possible it could be tuned better, but i cant lie about it souring my expectations about the Derecho. I should also mention that Brian Nadeau has some of my favorite design lines in his knives. It makes it that much more difficult to criticize the knives, but I just couldn't get over the soft deployment
@jarman_2000

I agree. Iwish the detent was heavier. I have the timascus and damasteel mini evo and it didn’t feel super snappy. Wasn’t as mind breaking as it was made out to be. That said, it really grew on me. the action, although different from a usual flipper, really is unique in a good way. If the detent was heavier, it would be my favorite flipper and second place wouldn’t even be close. The quality and action are enough for me to continue to buy Brian’s knives.

@@jarman_2000 I appreciate the feedback. I had the Evo Gyphoonmy possession for a few weeks, but I didn't carry it often for that very same reason. Hey MC interesting to find out that Neeves and the channel Outdoor55 channel did a video the other day that's up on Outdoor55's channel for his members and they did HRC testing on 2 WE knives (The WE Speedster and the Big Banter) and they came back with actually really solid numbers with their 20CV; according to Jared one came in at 61 RC and the other came in at 61.5 RC after two tests on each. I'm not even surprised because every WE knife I've put to real use has always performed really well, especially their S35VN. I do not like seeing their listed range at 58-60 for coated and 59-61 for uncoated blades, but if they're hitting it consistently at the higher end of those ranges then that's still much better than a lot of companies actual hardness of M390. Anyways, just thought you'd be interested in that bit of info. Congrats again on 500K and major congrats on new baby MC addition to your family!

Neeves just talked about him and OUTDOOR55 doing a video the other day which they tested the WE Speedster and WE Big Banter for their HRC, and they came in at 61 and 61.5 respectively. Which actually didn't even shock me because I have several of their knives in S35VN and 20CV and they have always performed above par in use for me. IDK where the whole thing started with WE having soft steel whether it's because of their range number they put online or if it started because someone went on Reddit after using a dud with a bad heat treat and then trashed their steel, but if they're consistently hitting that 61 RC area on most of their models than I could care less that their listing it at 59-61 lol But thought that bit of info was pretty interesting to learn.

@@metal_complex I get it. Kudos to those who have the budget to afford it. I’ve been rocking the Petrified Fish 939 for 3 years now and still love it. I’d like to get something bigger, just for the novelty of it, the cold Steel Luzon L or maybe the Kershaw Stratta XL, but we’re still taking sub $50 knives. I’d be more inclined to spend more on a big fixed blade knife or machete, in a great steel, for survival type stuff, than a pocket flipper, which I feel is more disposable in nature, more easily lost, etc.

Beez Blades has the WE Falcaria - it does unfortunately not have the magic sauce, meaning it's not drop shutty: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1o2br6SbqqWThn4
@wes.killed.it.5511
4 ай бұрын
Drop shutty is a term non-experienced knife guys use to label the quality of a knife as premium or not premium. I have $30 Ganzo's that fall completely shut but my $400 Sharp By Design Typhoon needs a few swings to get it shut, which is a perfect example of why "drop shutty" doesn't hold any weight. A knife being less drop shutty is not an indication of the quality of the knife as a whole and it certainly doesn't hold weight to the experienced knife enthusiast with whether or not a knife is actually premium.
@GBall_Vision
4 ай бұрын
Yeah I'd much rather have a knife that needs a light shake or two. Still can be extremely smooth and clean but need a shake. My favorite are the ones that just have an insane slow closing but basically will shut itself but you need the right weight to the blade. The knives with lighter blades often need a shake or two. Doesn't mean they aren't really damn good knives
