When we would do wrestling in PE at school, I was able to keep up with the big jock guys because I had at least some experience over people that never did this sort of thing.

You don't have to learn how to grapple if it's not fun and you don't enjoy it. But if you suck at it and you want to be a fighter you have to train what you suck at to mitigate your weakness. I used to want to fight. I have the body of a muay thai fighter. I like grappling more and don't want to be cuncussed so I train judo mostly. I could tell you my posture is on par with the professional thai fighter in the clinch and pretty bad for my judo club but that's just justification for me wanting to enjoy my training.

From my experience, grappling will give a smaller person the greatest advantage over a larger opponent. Im 6'2, 240-250, and iv never had a smaller person tko me while kickboxing. In our combat sambo, or at mma gyms on open mat days. Everyones different, but i just dont believe thats the road to go down. Myself, and even more experienced grapplers have been thrown, slammed, and submitted via choke only against smaller and lighter opponents. Smaller guys have the right advantages against a bigger person when grappling. If drilled enough, they can get a guys back fairly easy, if strong enough, they can lift them up a bit and angle them to get their hands up, and if fast enough, they can position themselves to get their arms sunk in for a choke, or even neck crank. It doesnt matter how big and strong someone is. God designed us so that if you control the head, you control the body, or simply put, win the fight. As mentioned, its happened to me, and others with more experience than myself. The guys that have done it, did it using a speed advantage, aswell as lower base, and then utilizing %80 wrestling and %20 jiu jitsu utilizing choking techniques as mentioned. Limb, and joint attacks however would be pretty rare and tough to do against larger people that have a bit of experience, especially if its mma rules and not grappling exclusively. Everyones built differently however, and sometimes, that one punch really is what does it. I use to bounce at 2 different rowdy clubs owned by tnr same guy, and i can tell you that the same strategy went for me. It was rare to have to strike someone, but wheb things got bad, we sometimes had to. Though im a large man, when it came time to subdue and throw out a very large guy, thr kast thing i wanted to donis get hit by another heavy weight, so id take them down, and sometimes just pin them anyways i could until more help arrived, or if the oerson was bad enough, sometimes the police. It was rare, but if their really strong, and like to kick, punch, and bite like the ninjas due, well than you get into north south, side, or a high mouth, really any top and high position and set them up in a lock of some sorts until the police arrive. Bouncing isnt a job a person gets paid enoigh to do. Indont recomend anyone do it these days. Theres some just very wild souls out there to. So long ago i dealt with one situation where a guy did some bad things in the night club. There was some broken glass to clean up, and so on. I was by the door that night, so close to the bar where people would gonfor alast call and sometimes get into arguments while in line, so once I realized who the aggressor was, i got his back, and tripped him down. This guy was a problem. I dont care if i sound like a coward, but in all honesty, all i could think was that i needed help with this guy. Im a big guy, but this was a bigger guy. So number one priority was to keep him on his back. Now, realistically, going for a choke that a person could go for would of been ideal, but apparantly alot of establishment owners dont want their guys to do them now, becaus eof legal reasons or something. Either way, i didnt because at the time i never drilled any anwyas. So after a bit of a scramble and him trying to hit me from off his back, i thankfully was able to land the lock everyone seems to hate but i love, the americana. This guy would not of wanted me to do this on him, because i could tell he was obviously had some musckes that was not flexible. When inwas just setting up his arm in it, im pretty sure i heard a good pop or two of just the gas in his joint releasing, even over the loud music. So even with his shoulder joint at my mercy, this idiot kept flailing around and tried getting his hand somewhere it shouldn't be, and, he bit me. I had been bit many times bouncing. Mainly by women. Iv been tested many times, luckly never transmitted anything. Scariest time was when the girl actually had too much red lip stick smeared around her mouth after a previous problem with another woman. That had me worried. So he bit me, so instinctively i pull him a bit closer to my knee, which his head was inline with. That smartened him up a bit, but at the time ironically my buddy Ma'iq, or Mike i should say, saw me get agressive with him. While trying to contain thr situation and have my back, so he figured he needed to help a bit, so he patted him on the head a few times and told him to be a good boy, and he sure did. He didnt go to sleep, but he behaved after that. I almost felt bad for a guy that just bit me. The police came and took him away, i didnt have to adjust his shoulder. If that would of been just striking against a freak like that, it would of been a long boxing bout possibly. Grappling should not be neglected.

People who don't know how to grapple aren't capable of understanding how overpowering possessing even basic competency in a grappling art is. I'm a lifelong Boxer, and when sparring with complete neophytes I still have a sense of wariness about me because they could still hit the ephemeral lucky punch despite our skill disparity. No such analguousness exists in grappling, however. You don't even need to be good, per se, and you'll dominate.

Hey Coach! You addressed the ecological approach here. I can clarify why your commenter called it that. What Kit Dale calls task-based games is (according to him) generally based on the Ecological Dynamics theory of motor control and more specifically the constraints-led approach to motor learning (thus ecological "approach"). I think that people do repetitions, or sequences as you call them, largely because of limiting beliefs. It's not just that you don't need them, but that it's better to learn where more information is present in the exercise, and thus what you call drilling and we call task games. We simply remove the repetitions/sequences and focus on innovative ways to help students organize functional solutions to the major problems that present them in the key ranges of the sport and across fighting. I can introduce you to individuals who can give you lots of effective games, including Greg Souders of Standard Jiu Jitsu (yes, it's a gym/team). I'd love to hop on sometime and talk to you and your audience about this approach. The literature is growing and it's blowing "muscle memory" based methodologies out of the water in comparisons so far.

So as autistic (diagnosed), it is lot broader than many think and was underdiagnosed bc getting tested can cost easily over 4k, wait lists are over 4 years, used to say only guys (many said this erroneously), and list goes on. Now onto fighting, many of us not into it due to sensor sensitivity, and interests, and we have a higher likelihood to have physical or other disabilities that get in the way. However, some of us love sports and see autism as something that helps us. One symptom of autism is intense focus or special interest, that can be sports or working out and I know many with that. There bunch of autistic fitness coaches I know, professional weight lifters, etc. some you may think are "severely disabled". Repititive behavior is another sign of autism but can be used to drill exercise. Hyperfocus too. Some autistic have different sensory ability and one-track mind that can help. Sure there drawback yes, but for every drawback there is advatage so why not? In fact, martial art therapy is real thing and study for autistics (its newer thing), that uses martial arts to help with focus, bodily awareness, socializing, self control, emotional control, and physical problems (i was recommended martial arts as kid before it was made into therapy and mnay). Many also use it as escape from bullying or start off as fantasy of becoming tough (many LARPERS or HEMA are autistic again I know not MMA). Ive only found one confirmed martial artist that autistic, John Howard but I only did 2 seconds of research so... and as time goes on with better training, more inclusive environments, more diagnosed, etc. I expect more. If I was born 10 years ago with how I was as a kid I wouldve been institutalized likely. I didn't talk until I was 4 and had many what most could call severe problems. Now I am pushing PhD in physics. Lots of us are given up on society too young and told constantly fd up stuff and no one invests in us so I am sure future genrations will be seen more

People shouldn't treat height like its the most important physical attribute. At least in my own experience its not. At my gym there are shorter fighters that are so much better than others significantly taller than them. At the same time there are taller fighters better than other at the same height. And of course, there are taller fighter better than shorter fighters as well. Im not saying its not a advantage, im saying its not as a big deal as some people make it to be. For instance, I'm sure that when Ramsey was still competing there were A LOT of shorter fighters than him that would kick his ass.

In reference to your comment about using words correctly, at about 12:50, I wish to respectfully inform you that you don't use the words "literally" or "random" correctly. I am not condemning you for this and ask you to please consider that not all disapproval is "hate", which is what a lot of people have been trained to think in this era of oversensitivity and people responding to all criticism with anger. You once said, quite accurately, that if a word means everything then it also means nothing. The word "random" is now misused in place of more words than any other in the history of the English language. It is used in place of "surprise", "mundane", "sudden", "strange", "spontaneous", "trivial" and dozens of other words. What this means is that people often don't describe things accurately or in detail and simply use the word "random" to save them taking the time or effort to do so, and a lot of meaning is lost. The word "random" is misused in place of so many other words that it's impossible to be sure what a person means when they say it. This doesn't matter much in modern conversation because many people don't converse to exchange information but simply want to hear themselves reaffirm their own ideas without much concern for what anybody else says or thinks. I am not at all accusing you of being guilty of that because you provide a great deal of useful information and obviously think in great detail about many things, but you have hopped on board the trend of saying "random" in place of many other words and I think that's a shame because language is far more interesting when people care about detail than when they do not. When it comes to the very common and modern misuse of the word "literally", it's a slightly different matter as people use that word for no reason other than the fact that everybody else does. Saying to a person "You literally told me you didn't know how to grapple" is no different at all to saying to them "You told me you didn't know how to grapple". The only difference is that the person speaking, in the first case, cannot resist the tide of popular trends. Even worse, many people use "literally" to describe something that is clearly figurative or metaphorical, which is simply absurd. Of course, languages always have changed and always will, but words being added because new ideas need to be described more easily is not the same as millions of people not knowing what a word means and using it anyway because they copy everybody else around them. That is a new phenomenon that began in the late 20th century and it's creating legions of young people who can't make very much sense at all. You can listen to some of them speak at length without ever saying anything that makes very much sense. I know so many people who say it doesn't matter at all. I ask them "How is the world, today? Are people more careful and better informed or is the opposite true?". Standards are falling in so many areas, which suits commercial interests very well because people who don't think in detail are easier to sell things to, and indeed, the decay is led by market forces above all.
