If you had a longer straight section on the intake pipe it would actually make that first note of the flutter hit even harder and sound like all the skyline/supra videos we all love. It's called a "dose pipe" and the youtube channel "keep it reet" has THREE comparison videos for different lengths, bends, diameters, and materials. The ideal dose pipe is 3-4x the required diameter in length, straight, and made of metal (plastic ones don't dose). The next best thing is a long sweep/gentle curve 90-degree bend, same thing with the metal and being the required diameter. Anything over 6x-8x the required diameter loses the long first note and makes chipmunk noises instead. Anything with less than 2x the diameter in length before any bends and less than 1x the diameter in length after any bends loses the dose entirely and sounds more like basic flutter.

I have a 90 degree elbow on it with a large radius an I know what a dose pipe is but it only works well on turbos that dont have anti surge, otherwise it desnt do much, also doesnt do much in terms of spool sound but only makes the flutter a lot louder
@Drunken_Hamster

@@throttlebuddies6356 I heard a guy with T51r mod AND loud dose (the long first note kind that we all want) and IDK how he did it, but he did. I left a comment but IDK if I'll get a response. Loud whistle + good dose is my dream setup, but if I had to pick, I'd choose dose over the whistle.
@throttlebuddies6356
7 ай бұрын
@@Drunken_Hamster you need a turbo that doesnt have anti surge as the dose is much louder then. With an anti surge housing you need double the boost pressure to make the same kind of sound approximately if you are not running a bov
@Drunken_Hamster

@@throttlebuddies6356 Anti-surge is the "high flow" thing, right? The slot or holes that go around the main entrance to the compressor wheel, and the thing that you modify to do the "T51r mod"? Do you think on a turbo with an anti-surge housing you can just weld the slot shut and that'll be good enough?
@throttlebuddies6356
7 ай бұрын
@@Drunken_Hamster exactly. yes, you could, BUT aluminium gets distorted very easily by heat so might not be the best idea, tho some turbos have non-high flow options available. With a lathe you could also create an insert.
@NickVillecco

Now what if you did both t51R and the holes?
@throttlebuddies6356
7 ай бұрын
no idea, was to cheap to do the t51r mod but id guess itd just get a bit louder since they are caused by the same effect, which is air rushing over a sharp edge and therefore creating a turbulence, just like a whistle.
@Wigwhom86
2 ай бұрын
You can do a legit t51r mod if your compressor housing has some meat around the compressor wheel. Used a hole saw and cut down a few inches to reach the wheel then used a dremel wheel on the inside to cut slits and connect the two chambers.
@throttlebuddies6356

yeah, but its a lot more expensive to do most turbos have the possibility of tetting a housing with anti surge, that can also be modded.

How do you think a slot would sound? Say eighth inch wide, quarter inch deep and three quarter inch long?
@throttlebuddies6356
5 ай бұрын
id say the difference wouldnt be huge probably as it is the air rushing past a sharp edge that creates that sound. maybe a little more pronounced, although with a slot depending on the length i would be careful because the wider it is, the more of the smooth flow you are going to disturb

Would this theory still work if the gap between the bolt hole and the bolt itself was well over 10 - 20 mm? lets say more along the lines of 50mm? The end is still plugged but just with a much larger gap.
@throttlebuddies6356

yep, would stil work. The theory works because of the air turbulence/the air that rushes over the hole.

@throttlebuddies6356

There need to be edges on the hole so that there is air turbulence like in a whistle. One hole is sufficient. But a depth of 3-5 mm or so would be enough but again there needs to be an edge a dimple, dent or divet does not work the edge needs to be ~90 degrees and sharp to create turbulence and sound
