When someone bad beats me I smile and say good hand. Sometimes I put my hand over my heart and feign being shot and smile when they laugh. I keep my ego at my house in my top drawer with my mismatched socks and and wholly underwear. When I win I chalk it up to luck, saved by the flop, rescued by the turn, salvation at the river. I try to make winning and losing to me fun. If people like you losing to you just doesn't seem quite as bad to them. I spent hundreds of hours memorizing the all the charts you sent to my e-mail, it has raised my game to the next level. I feel like I have stolen a lot of your skill and experience, I wish I felt bad about it but I don't. Love your site and all you videos thanks a heap Blackrain.

Yes, this is a huge leak for many players, especially live, where you can be card dead for very long stretches. So many times, the a villain's' leak they won't fold anything, any pair, a bad draw, the player just doesn't want to feel "pushed around" they just don't fold. Then you watch other players try and bluff them OVER and OVER and wonder why the player who never fold never folds to bluff. Yes, you haven't played a hand for 8 orbits, the never fold player doesn't care because that player doesn't notice, so playing strong with a weak hand isn't going to get credit from them, you can't fix their leak of never folding by bluffing over and over.

I think you missed one of the more important ones Bad players LOVE chasing draws. So if you see a board being wet or coordinated in any way, start betting big to price out their draws. And when that draw completes... Just dont bet! Most of the time, even if they have the flush, they will check to you for deception value or idk what. Just check it too to see cheaper showdown, and easy fold to some kind of a big raise or shove
@ActivistVictor
2 жыл бұрын
also merit to checking to them OOP sometimes when you put them on a draw and all the draws brick. Obviously is risky as they will check back sometimes... that said, a lot of fish tend to bluff busted draws so it's nice to check some strong hands to em and give em the chance to punish your 'weakness' at which point you can snap them off and fleece them

Your videos have vastly improved my game. I mostly play for play money, or at least I have in the past. Because of the great improvement I am seeing in my fake money games after listening to you and implimenting your suggestions, I am ready to give live money a chance. I have played a few live small tournaments and in total won more than I lost, but knew something was missing. I knew I was not agressive enough and that was my biggest, but not only shortfall, but whenever I tried to get more agressive it backfired. Your information has helped me to know when and how to become more agressive. I know I still have a lot to learn but am more confident to do some of that learning playing for real money. OMG, I am a recreational player who studies the game, think I’m a decent player, but probably not. There are a couple players I play against that have killed me in the past by falling into this way of playing. Basically, they don’t bluff. If they are in the hand and betting into you, they have a better hand. Like you said, I had to learn the hard way.

You mentioned using the HUD of a pokertracker and using the data-base to see how big of a loser the recreational players are, but both of these require quite a lot of hands played before revealing accurate information. Until that time, trying to use statistics is a liability at best. For me, replaying sessions (using the pokertracker) was much more revealing about how I played against recreational players. This takes a lot of effort to do (in the beginning) but it helps so much to side-step the 'frustrational' mines in the mine-field called 'poker'.

I played 10-20 last night and literally found myself raising 10x pre flop as an open and people were still calling with crap. Sometimes it’s just the table and you have to ask for a seat or table change. I always believed it depended on the stakes, but it doesn’t.. especially if people have money to blow and are there for fun and not to make $$, they play anything. Unfortunately they suck out so much, they win and can put you on serious tilt.

What you are saying is exactly what I'm doing in the live game I play weekly, getting it in, in the spots I'm ahead, 2 to 1 fav, all the way up to them having 1 out. Game should be highly profitable, but it isn't, I'm sucked out to death constantly. This is how bad they play an example that happened today. I'm mostly dead for 1st 7 orbits, one KQ off in the SB that I called a small raise with (had to fold after flop as I whiffed it), and get a bluff in from the button for a small limped in pot. The game is 1/2, $100 max buy in. I'm dealt AA UTG. $81 in my stack. I come in for $10, SB calls, BB shoves for $21 he has left. I'm considering 4 betting, but I know from his previous play, if I flat the SB will come along, so I flat to get more value on later streets. Flop comes K-7-3, I'm praying he hit this flop. He did hit it and bets $21, I shove for the $60 I have left, and he snap calls with K9. The BB had QQ, so I perfectly understand his shove, and wouldn't feel bad if he hit's the 2-outter. But as usual the turn comes K, and the Donk with 5 outs wins. I lose like this CONSTANTLY at this game, in at 2 to 1 occasionally, more often a 3 to 1, or 4 to 1 favorite, and take beat after beat after beat. I should be killing this game, but when you're losing 90% of the time getting in dominating, you cannot win. It's just unreal. I don't bluff much at all, usually only when checked to when I'm in position, and have better EV bluffing uncontested pots from position, then I have getting in dominating. Utterly frustrating.
@Jealod24

First off, if you’re playing close to optimally than it doesn’t matter what they do because you are always making the most plus ev play. If they call too much or fold too much then so be it, you just keep playing the most plus ev play and you’ll win more than you lose. Second, if you’re like most players and you use gto as a guide for what you should do but then look for weaknesses you can exploit, you want to see these level 1 players as they will be easy to exploit. The biggest mistake people make is getting mad when you have top pair on the turn, you’re confident they are on a draw so you bet the pot so they don’t have the right odds to call, but they call anyways and hit their flush… that’s a good thing, because statistically you will make more in the long run and they will lose. It understandable to want to change strategies and play basic if your opponents are newer but that doesn’t mean you stop playing good poker. Just because they don’t understand what range you’re representing that’s ok… that range is for you, not them. Honestly the biggest mistake a see players making is thinking that have 80% to win means you’re guaranteed to win. And again, you should be happy to see people putting money in the middle when they have such bad odds. Your range play is to make you hard to read and keep your variance low.

I am currently winning at NL5. Crushed NL2 over 120K hands. I am playing zoom. What I realized so far is that bad players will generally just call you if they have anything at all. They dont care a lot about bet size if they have a draw. If they reraise or 3-bet you however, then they have something big. Even if the winning combo means that they setmined your overbet preflop with pocket 2 or played a crazy hand like J5 off. Also c-betting doesnt seem to be super effective. If there is an ace or a king on the board, they usually have it so c-betting is not always a good idea. They need to fold a good amount of the time for c-bets to be effective. I c-bet if I have any draws at all and with overcards. and give up the hand if I meet any resistance.

When you have a fish, you should bet bet bet your strong top pairs and better. If you're against a tight reg, you need to pot control any one pair holding because you're good for one, maybe two streets of value at best. Take a deceptive, passive action at some point in the hand and then tank for a long time and bet big with the turned nuts and get paid.

One thing I have done is i constantly say to myself "There are 8 players at the table. It is not my responsibility to punish bad players." It is so easy to let your game be pulled down to their level. You play hands you normally would not play, or stick around longer in a hand than you normally would. So often i have watched bad players win hand after hand in the early portion of the tournament. So frustrating. Since i have developed my new strategy, it is so gratifying to get down to the final couple of tables and see this bad player all of a sudden lose the heater he was on and donkey all of his chips to me. This happened just the other day at Bellagio. an older gentleman was winning every hand, shooting off his mouth, bullying. I so wanted to punish him, but i just sat back. we got down to 2 tables, His huge early chip stack shrunk with the increasing Blinds and poor play. i was able to call his "all in" 10 BB raise and was able to say "bye bye". I even got to listen to him yell at me for having the nerve to call him. I love that.

You have to know who you're playing with and temper yourself appropriately. I come into a table playing lightly and even lose a little just to find out the other players' styles and strengths, then I swoop in and start to make my huge stacks and walk away easily with 4 or more times what I came to the table with. Patience always wins at the poker table.

You want these players at the table. When they suck out on you, smile and say "nice hand!". That keeps them chasing draws and losing money over time. Understand, this is why they play! They love to hit that one outer on the river so they can talk about it. Talk with them and let them enjoy it! They will get looser, thinking this type of play is working and profitable (it's not... but don't tell them that!). They are here to have fun, give it to them, they don't care if at the end of the night they lose, they care that they "hit that one outer and won a big pot!"
