I went on a date with a man chemically addicted to alcohol. It was dreadful to see what it done to him. He drank weirdly. I.e. there always had to be alcohol on the table. It was like I wasn't dating an actual person, but alcohol. He stayed at mine once and only once. (I was young and didn't know better) He just wanted to sit and drink. Again it was this weird pattern where he seemed to be fighting an urge to down the whole lot. Then the next day he was sick in the toilet and it sounded BAD. He then saw a bottle of rum in a cabinet and drank half of that, then left. I felt so bad as I felt guilty 😢 That ended as he got drunk the next week and kicked out of his house. He wanted to come live with me! So when I said no, he became abusive and threatening. I said I'd call the police and never heard from him again. It's a terrible drug

I haven't had a drop in 3 weeks today I AM a weekend warrior starting on Thursday nights till Sunday afternoon. I would wake up on Friday morning with brain fog and just run down, and that feeling would carry over till Monday afternoon. My Question is since I have begun my journey to stop drinking I have experienced Phantom hangover on those days, as if I was still drinking. Is this a thing? I have dialed in my sleep, eating better and taking time to take a walk

Maybe it’s because your brain is still wired to those memories. For me I’m an early bird and only slept longer than 8am when I drank the night before. Now after 3 years sober I still sometimes feel hungover after waking up after 8 am. There’s no severe symptoms of course but I feel a bit brain foggy for like an hour or so. So phantom hangovers are definitely real but NEVER as bad as the good old whiskey sunrises I’ve experienced way too often

When you said 90% of all domestic abuse arises from alcohol I thought as much 11 years into a 19 year marriage he smacked me out straight into my face so one of my front teeth is not my own after drinking Champagne this was a man who could hold his alcohol and the words oh your like me small bubbles Big Troubles (hence I Never drank Champagne - not even at weddings wine fine not the bubbly) I had said like about an hour beforehand - to be honest it was something I had never expected from him and it emotionally devastated me your never the same once was even too much but I forgave and we carried on - in the end there were other issues then I left divorced my own father whom I did not know died from being an Alcoholic so I don’t drink and possibly never will again but it’s very rare to find a man who does not drink or has only a couple so there’s my tragic story

Getting drunk and eliminating inhibitions produces the Opposite of love, joy, peace, humble, gentle, patience, self control. A supplement worth researching is L-glutamine. Enjoying food again and a good Mediterranean diet helps alot.

I had issues with heroin and many others substances. After some years clean I started drinking, using pills and whatever to make me "feel good"...now just does not work like it did. I've already requested for treatment, soon I will be taken to detox clinic and do a program, I hope! Why so many substances are ilegal but alcohol, tobacco and so many others are legal?!! Because so many people is making money with our addictions.

NO - Jordan Peterson stopped drinking but did not resolve his underlying issues, so became addicted to other meds - so this is all just posturing. Drinking is different to being an Alcoholic; it is a function of underlying neurological issues - such as anxiety depression or pain.. Unless you find out what is causing the issue and resolve it, you will continue to suffer.. the problem is that the medical profession is clueless when it comes to these things. If you have to tell yourself not to drink or smoke consistently this is not a weakness - you are physically and biologically being driven to do it..

I stopped drinking in May 2020. I never really thought about quitting drinking until Jordan Peterson made me think about it differently.

I agree that people who haven't been addicted can only give so much information. Sure, they can provide research on what happens with the brain and such, but only people who have gone through it truly understand. It's probably part of why we don't really have good solutions in the 21st century... because we're relying on the research of "experts" who have never personally experienced alcoholism.
